I've been addicted to oppies for about 3 years but have been using pills for 15 years- Crazy.

It's a complicated question and the answer is different for everyone.

Gosh, i remember when 1 vicodin 5's would get me higher than a kite. Now...6-7 couldn't get me high. Shoot, i have to take 5 MS contins 30 mgs to get high now. It's amazing how that happens before your eyes without really noticing.

I'll blink my eyes and 5 30 mgs won't be enough.

But, it's not only the high i am addicted to it's the 'normal' i am addicted to... these pills make me feel 'normal', does that make sense?

GOR

it makes alot of sense I have had depression issues for years and opiates were always the bst anti- depressants, they have been proven in studies to work, sub is know to be good for treating refactory depression, I know it's the best anti-d I have ever used, there are theroys about people having deficancy;s in opiate peptides, and enorphins etc...I too remember the very first time I too vic's rec, 4 brand name and I was walking in the clouds, and the first time I did an oxy...man to bad it seems like you can never quite reach that first good high like the next one is 99.9999% as good and the next 99.9998% etc.....in the end before I went on subs I took pills not to get high(I couldn't afford the massivie dose I needed to get high) but like you said simply feel 'normal' and function.

Makes perfect sense to me too. I don't seem to feel 'normal' without opiates. I haven't used opies to get high over 7 years.

It wasnt till i hit the jackpot (a good incentive from my employer) and scored 50gms of solid rock H in one go, then spent the following 45 days indoors afterwhich i went straight into rehab.

how can you tell the difference between physical and psychological dependence?
honestly, the two are so intertwined
if you think you are going to be sick, you *will* be sick
if you think you can get over it quick, you'll probably get over it quick
and which is worse, the actual physical detox
or the mental part which makes it all ten times worse?
if someone had just the flu, and all the same symptoms of severe w/d but unrelated to drugs
would you be freaking out as bad as 'dopesick'? fuck no

just my experience

I'm surprised nobody else noticed and was extremely amused by this...Hahah I think you mean Pavlov's dogs? I had to say it, that cracked me up.

I've often thought about "using" WD's as a sort of reward potentiator for getting high. Usually this thought occurs to me when I'm in the middle of an Oxy flood/binge (I'm not an H user); I think of how much I could be saving or making last. Also, the appreciation of getting up is so much more precious when you're aching for it...But that's really hard to do to yourself. I also notice that when I'm really on empty and achin' and nose running, a modest dose doesn't hold the same potency as when I've got some in my system to build on (perhaps this is obvious science).

Interesting post.

Man..I totally agree..that's how it is for me. I can be feeling just a little sick. If I start bitching about being sick I start feeling worse. I learn to just shut up about it. It's the same if I'm feeling all sick and I call the dude I start feeling better just knowing he's on his way.

I agree on the last part too. Cause when your dope sick you know that a shot would cure you instantly. So it's on your mind..chinese torture for sure.

i have no idea how long....i went a year and a half on some kind of dope pills(i was in grade 9 and didnt think about anything important like, say, checking labels). i had one little 3 week break; i thought i had altitude sickness or some kind of severe jetlag or something. actually, i had no idea i was addicted, on account of the fact that i was young and hung out with non-users. it was the early 90's and therefor pre-the-internet-has-taken-over days, so no on-line referencing either. i just thought there was something terribly, terribly wrong with my body.

these days, it takes only a few days until sickness. a few times i've been mildly sick after only one day

I started off as a chipper (about 10 years) and never got a habit (sporadic usage, sometimes weekly) so I wanted to see what it was all about. I just used for a few weeks until the money ran out, then I found out.

Yes, I actually thought I wanted a habit as I could see my friends struggle with it (I thought I was stronger). That led to years of Methadone misuse. I was foolish to think I could escape the pull of opiates - once you get sick and then well again, that reinforcment is too powerful.

I still struggle with chipping, though. I almost fell back into a habit this week but friends came to my rescue and reminded me of how lousy i would feel. It worked (there's a lot to be said about supportive junky mates).

1st time I got sick was a month after using everyday. I had NO idea I was WDing. I felt pretty bad but it wasn't until my dealer told me I was dope sick that I knew what I had gotten myself into. Call me stupid but I was only 16.

Now if I go "clean" for a while it only takes 3 or 4 days of using before I get a habit again.

I totally understand not ever getting bored or sick of opiates. It seems I love them more and more everyday. I'm sure my dependence follows a similar path (read: up), but nonetheless, it's sorta nice in a very crude way to have something you know will make you happy. Like, as long as I can secure this one kind of substance and don't let it get too out of hand for the rest of my life, I know I would have lived a blessed life.
