Pill Codeine in Effervescent Powder

SWIM's got some small pharmaceutical sachets filled with a fine powder containing Codeine Phosphate 30mg + Paracetamol 500mg each. They might be thought as the ideal thing to get a CWE off of..due to the fact they come in a fine powder ready to dissolve..trouble is: the pharmaceutical specialty actually contains also a lil of NaHCO3 (bicarbonate of soda), beside some others neutral fillers, in order to give the powder effervescent properties and,as a consequence, to avoid its abuse by ppl or at least I suppose so..because besides..it makes sense.
Do any of you guys have any suggestions/hints about how to extract the Codeine out of them overcoming the NaHCO3-obstacle just in case it DOES consist into being one of course..and if you think it DOES..how would you treat this product in order to get the max amount of almost pure Codeine out of it? Thanks to you all from now cause I'm sure you'll help with your precious advices as you always do after all. =)

Ok- I think you need to just take this stuff, let it effervesce in the minimum amount of very warm water necessary to get complete dissolution (should be less warm than cold). Once it's totally dissolved, just chill the solution until you see the paracetamol precipitate out. Try 2 or 3 packets first and see if you get a precipitate. If you do, it's paracetamol. Then, just filter. It's pretty much the same as any other CWE, and I really don't see how the bicarbonate presents a problem. It'll just become an antacid once it hits your stomach anyways.

Remember- it's just codiene, so unless you have a super-low tolerance, you won't get a huge effect from it anyways. Read some of the warnings about codiene in the codiene sub forum. It's a kind-of dangerous opiate. Be careful!

That's cool dude, but three posts on the same topic does get one thinking that mabey you are in a hurry to get your answer, as in desparate to get an answer immediately.

Let me guess, it's all gone now anyway?

Aw thanks tm420tm!!This is right what I was wondering about.Thx also for the advice=)
What I can't see is..if codeine's so dangerous as you said..why should it be a so easy-obtainable,safe-considered and sometimes/somewhere even otc drug?As far as I can see it's also pretty used but maybe that's just a stopgap measure for Wd's..

Ale, you'll fit in just fine. As for why T said it's dangerous, I can't speak for him, nor can I think of any reason that it would be more dangerous than any of the other opies we all use/abuse.

Unless he's referring to the Tylenol? Just a guess, I'm sure he'll be along shortly to clarify.

Yea, the problem I have with codiene/apap preparations is that it's so easy for the average dumbass to go overboard. The codiene just isn't in an effective ratio to the APAP.

Moreso, A lot of people expect it to fuck 'em up like percocet does, and just keep eating the pills, ya know? And before they know it, they are way over the ceiling effective dose, so they don't get any more fucked up, and just keep going waiting to feel more effects.

Suffocate spelled it out more clearly below:

The acetaminophen (paracetamol) content in many codeine preparations obviously plays a role in the dangers associated with its use, especially when used in conjunction with alcohol or by anyone with a liver condition/disease. I don't believe, however, that this was what tm420tm meant by "[codine is] a kind-of dangerous opiate." (I'm not trying to speak for tm, these are just my observations.)

The difference between an effective dose of codeine and an overdose is very small in comparison to other opiate-analgesics. For example, say the effective dose of oxycodone for someone is 40mg's. One could double this dosage and, while perhaps becoming a bit nauseus (or a lot nauseus, depending on the person) and much more intoxicated than they are used to, not end up in the ER for an overdose.

With codeine, however, the safety-margin is so small that (depending on the dosage) a dose that puts you where you want to be may be only 20 or 30% smaller than what would cause an overdose. And, since the effects of codeine are much weaker than the majority of other opiates, one can get dangerously close to a lethal dose without ever realizing it.

"Codeine more lethal than OxyContin: N.L. data"

This article shows that although powerful pain medications such as OxyContin are often considered more dangerous than codeine (especially as a result of the recent media attention OC has recieved), there have been twice as many deaths in Newfoundland from the use of codeine as there have been for oxycodone.

While codeine may not be as powerful as most of our DOC's, this doesn't mean that the drug is any less dangerous, and in many cases it can even be more dangerous.
