No blood in rig?

So the past few times I have dosed - I hit a vein... KNOW I am in a vein.. yet no blood comes up even if I draw the plunger back. So I press a little bit and sure enough - no pain and all beautiful - so I push the rest and its all fine. This was in the vein on the top of my left hand. Now its a little swollen and white (histamine?) and the injection area is a little bit numb.

Anyone explain this? How was I in the vein yet no blood would draw up? Should I worry about the numbness?

Sounds like this may be a vein that you've used quite a bit and is now a bit leaky which caused the numbness and white. Also, when you use a vein too much, it will stop working and flowing blood. I think it's from the scar tissue blocking flow. You'll be in the vein, but there isn't enough flow to register. That's what I've experienced anyways.

How big was your needle?

Sometimes a 30-g will not allow blood to come back very well.

This has pissed-me-off so much in the past, that I rarely use anything smaller than a 27-g.

My hand is now just puffy and numb at the injection site... should I be worried?

As long as it was decent powder dope, I wouldn't worry. It will go down in a day or so. But, if it was nasty tar or dirty powder, they you may end up with some minor problems. Nothing too bad though.

I've used all sizes of needles and can surelly say that if no blood in rig that means its not in the vein.

I can surelly say that.

If you pull the rig and no blood comes then at the moment you pushed the rig it wasn't inside a vein...

If you feel a rush its because you inserted inside the vein, but if no blood came out then at that MOMENT it wasn't inside the vein... For you to feel a rush and not drawing blood its because or the vein or the needle has moved.. Crossing a vein tottally sometimes meets this condition..

And the swollen reaction backups what i say, some of the liquid was inserted not inside the vein.

Another possibility is that you are inside the vein but hitting the walls of the vein. the vacuum caused by pulling the plunger would cause the wall of the vein to obstruct the blood from entering the needle, but because you had a swollen reaction if this was the case it must gone thru the vein putting some liquid outside it.

^^^Yeah, if you failed to register then most of the time you aren't in a vein.
You might of poked into one when you started pushing on the plunger.
There are wierd exceptions though.
I really don't understand them myself.
I never fail to register.

right in the crook of my arm I've got some scar tissue there. if I push into it just as deep as I would any other vein (as deep into the same spot as I used to) I've went through the vein. its like it sits closer to the skin. you learn to compensate this with pulling the needle back until there is a flash, and holding it there and shooting. re-adjusting if you slip through it again and it starts to sting.

but you have to be able to pull blood back. what I do, to keep from sticking myself a bunch of times, is stick it in once and if I miss I know I'm right around the vein cause I can still see it. but I'll stick it in, pull back, nothing. that bubble will stay in the rig while you pull the rig out a little while still staying in and kind of poking around until you get a flash created by the vacuum in the rig. you're in.

I'd bet that you were hitting the vein wall...the swollen reaction and numbness you got means that you missed, at least part of the shot. A good general rule to follow is if you don't register any blood, DON'T SHOOT. I know you got a rush, but that doesn't mean you did it right. Take care of those veins, you're gonna regret it if you don't!

I can't register ANYWHERE! Yet blood comes out of my skin when I pull out. I use my feet sometimes although I hate doing it. I need to find more veins!!!

What about when you sit there for 10 minutes poking yourself everywhere trying to hit?

The crooks of both my elbows are so bruised. My hands are fucked.
I've only been shooting for 3-4 weeks. How the HELL do people hit for years?
