Codeine instead of methadone for users of <=40mgs

In a day in the past week i had to go take someone into a hospital that is 100kms away from home and had forgotten to take my methadone before i went and didn't bring any methadone with me also.

Since a few months ago, due to tapering now my dose only lasts almost 24 hours and i start getting some bad withdraw symptoms after the 24 hour mark. I knew i was going to spend most of the day in the hospital waiting and taking care of the person i was with so i decided i needed some opiates to be able to pass that day. Immediately the tough of buying some dope was crossing my mind but i didn't want to use dope so i went into a pharmacy and bought a pack of 20x30mgs of codeine plus APAP with them.

So them i had 600mgs of codeine phosphate to use that day, so i went i also bough a bottle of very cold water and some coffee filters, did an extraction and drank 400mgs of codeine. Just 20 minutes had passed and i could feel the codeine eliminating the withdraw and after 30 to 45 minutes i was even feeling a little euphoric.

That did the trick, it was pretty good to know that i could even use codeine as a substitute for my methadone dose and it worked!

After 6hours i was starting to feel some effects of withdraw again so i took the rest, another 200mgs and the withdraw effects subsided again but this time with no euphoria.

After i got home, another 6 hours later, i was already feeling some wd symptoms and i had another 12 hours till my next methadone dose so i took half my daily dose, or 20mgs and the withdraw effects subsided too.

It was very good to know that i can use codeine instead of my methadone dose. I think i will use it again way ahead in the future in my last days of methadone detox, possibly when my dose is close to 5mgs or so i maybe switch the methadone for codeine and do the final detox with codeine instead of methadone.



So users on lower or equal doses of 40mgs of daily methadone, yes, yes you can use codeine instead of methadone. This can be real good for some people who want to switch from methadone to a low half-life opiate and then tapering the low half-life opiate.

I always envy my Canadian neighbors because they can purchase codeine and dihydrocodeine mixtures. Always sounded like a much better alternative to the only poppy seeds that I could get in bulk, which were awful. Good job on finding a solution to what could be a huge issue.

True, but a good batch of seeds blows t1s out of the water. They are always good to have around but it really isn't that great.

I thought you could...I might be wrong...I can't find anything on the google about it, but I might've been thinking of the uk, with their ability to purchase otc codeine/dihc.

Yeah likely the uk, but we do get t1s.

Ah the days of having no cups because they were all filled with tylenol from gazilions of cold water extraxtions. I can't even stomach extractions anymore when wding, thats why they mean nothing to me.

a lot of countries also have OTC dihydrocodeine which is even stronger. I don't think DHC is OTC in Canada, is it? the tylenol with codeine available OTC in Canada definitely works for wd. I bought a couple bottles when I went to Niagra Falls years ago. I read on the net that you could bring small amounts for personal use back to the US without any trouble as long as you declare it. to make sure I went to the Canadian customs office and asked them if I would get in trouble or have it confiscated when going through US customs and they said I wouldn't as long as I declared it. when we went back to the US the customs agent asked if we had anything to declare and I said "just some tylenol I bought" and they didn't even ask to look at it. it really makes me jealous that they sell codeine and Cuban cigars there but not here in the US.
