Default What The Hell ?

So, My insurance only covers Generic Oxycontin .

I have been able to call around each month and find whats left in stock to fill my script . All Generics are Suppoused{?] to be gone !

Last month was a Bitch but was able to get it filled with what was said to be Generic 40mg Oxycontin .

Last month I Go to fill script and it says on Bottle in large print OXYCODONE 40MG ER TABLETS , I Look inside to see what crappy Generic I have this time and they are Yellowish with 40 side 1, OC side 2 ...Whoa it must be Thanksgivin Early !

So, this month I think I am sure it wont happen again , So , I call pharm and ask and they say come on in we have the same generic we gave you last month , I fly down there and sure enuff yellowish 40 OC imprint and they are calling it generic !

My question...... I am 99% sure these are Brand OCs .... Nobody else makes a generic with OC side 1 -40 side 2 Right ? The Bottle also says MFG ETHEX I Dont Think So .....?

Thanks For Any Input ........ GetinLow

Maybe check out Ethex's web site and see what they're manufacturing? I wish I could be of more help. I haven't been prescribed any form of Oxy(never really helped me) in a long time. Good luck.

If I remember correctly, one day when I was searching patent information on some opioids on the net I saw an article claiming that Purdue had a generic agreement with Ethex (or another company if I am wrong) to market their brand name product as a generic. Had something to do with licensing stuff and being able to reap profits both as brand as well as generic. This was a short term contract.

If what I read was true, then what you had is brand name product produced by Purdue and sold under the Ethex banner.

This is exactly what's happening. Same thing as when they used to do it with Watson under the ABG imprint. Interesting that it doesn't have a differing imprint on it, it's probably just something to do with the weird lawsuit thing that was going on.

Oxycontin (Oxycodone HCl time release) at this point is exclusively produced by Purdue Pharma.

What you have in your possession, indeed, is the brand of Oxycontin based on your pill imprint description.

The Mallinckrodt generic had an imprint of an “M” on one side and a “number” on the flip; the point is, they had different imprints than the brand “OC” on one side and “Strength” on the flip. These formulations were different than brand and were waxy.

A few years back (you might recall) Purdue Pharma filed lawsuits against several drug manufacturers that produced generic Oxycontin claiming patent infringements; all generics were removed from the market.

Sometime around September 2008, Mallinckrodt (who never made a generic Oxycontin in the past) was given exclusive privilege via Purdue Pharma to make an Oxycontin generic.

This exclusive privilege was bounded by a time constraint for Mallinckrodt that extended from September 2008 through December 2009.

However, sometime during March 2009, Mallinckrodt stopped production of generic Oxycontin; after only being on the market for around six months, with another nine months remaining to produce.

Therefore, since March 2009, unless stocks were available in some pharmacies, production had ended; hence, ordering of the generic Mallinckrodt Oxycontin was no longer possible.

Yeah purdue wants to keep the bank rolling in but they don't want to get charged with creating a monopoly so they're doing what they used to do with Watson and the ABGs. They make the pills and sell them to ethex at a discount obviously and let then sell them as genetics. This is profitable for ethex even if the discount isn't much because they don't have to spend money on advertising(to docs) or research & development.

This is still news to me though. Maybe the pharmacy is just filling the generic bottles with the real ones to help all their patients whose insurance doesn't cover brand name, which i'm sure is plenty.

Thanks for all the info: OP's

I put a couple pills in warm water and there is no gelling. I let them sit for 8-12 hours and still no gelling only a white shell left over and some bitter taste in the water ! Now, when I crushed one pill and let it sit for 8 hours the water was bitter but alot of the ground up bits were not dissolved . Anybody who has brand can you tell me if the same happens when brand OC is crushed and let set for 8 hours or so ?

Oh , and thanks Digby for finding that Blurb about KV Pharm and it being the parent Co. of Ethex... Verthy verthy interesting what is goin on !
