Does methadone potentiators cause constipation for everyone?

I tried to use tagamet for a potentiator with my methadone dose and hellfire I couldnt go for a damn week! I was miserable do all potentiators do this? Or maybe just tagamet? I feel like I really need a boost for my dose what else could I try?

It's the methadone that is really backing you up. As far as I know, constipation is not even a side effect of tagamet. At least it's not listed on the bottle as one.

The only thing the potentiators can do is increase the effect of the methadone which increases the constipation.

Yeah... Whatever you potentiate with, I'm pretty sure its the methadone that's the problem.
Best advice I have is just to wait and see. Methadone used to make me super constipated, but it just went away with time for some reason!

tagamet don't really make it any stronger as it makes it last longer. At least this is what I have found, as for you being super constipated it's not likely the tagamet as that's not really a side effect, do you take your dose everyday at the same time, I find that this helps a lot.
Good luck, and if you need a boost for your dose I would take to the Dr. or nurse at you clinic about bump you up 5mg or so.

Most definitely the Methadone itself. Some potentiators like GF juice do increase the blood levels of Methadone by slowing it's elimination.

Like others have said its prob. from the methadone itself. I take 400mg (not much)

Tagamet 45 min before I dose,I think it helps make my dose last longer. Its basically habit at

this point. But I dont get constipated anymore at all even at 130mg. Like Deadfiend told ya

Id just ask for an increase or two.

400mg is a sizable dose man, and I'm not sure an increase is what he should be asking for, it definitely won't be curing his constipation unless its just tiny enough to cure his use of cimetidine.

When I took Methadone, it was like I had swallowed a giant cork. I thought I would have to go to the hospital after about 10 days.

If giving birth hurt as much as taking that first crap did (10 days after starting methadone) there would NOT be as many kids in the world. I felt like I should have been taking a Lamaz (spelling) class to get ready for that BM

This is why I feel he needs an increase in his, stability. I also dont believe 400mgs. is a sizable dose of cimetidine I've heard of people using much higher. Like I said Get an increase till your stable, and try miralax or some other product for constipation.

That's true. But, it seems like the OP wanted to blame the potentiators for his constipation instead of the high dose of methadone.

I think its the methadone. And I also think a better wuestion is, does anyone know of a potentiator for methadone that actually works??

Eh Seven I was referring to 400mgs. not being a sizable dose of tagamet (cimetidine).

My Done dose is 130mgs. This thing on top of my shoulders may look hollow, but there's a little more (brain) in there than that.Tagamet is a great potentiator to me, my methadone lasts the full 24hr. plus some. ( Cimetidine keeps it from gettin eatin up too fast. }
