Default nausea suddenly?

I've taken different opiates on and off over the years and never had much of a problem with nausea except at first. I started taking codeine the last few months after not taking anything for over half a year and now I feel like throwing up half the time I take codeine. Is it possible I've become allergic or sensitive to codeine or something? I figured I'd have a iron gut by now

The only time I experience nausea is when I've taken too much. Is it possible that your tolerance is lower now? I would lower the dose of codeine and see if that makes a difference.

I puke off codeine/hydrododeine before oxy. That is what it does to me

i remember codeine making me nauseous too, the last time i took it. of course, i wouldn't totally discount the allergy theory either. they say you can develop allergies at any time, and sometimes to things you never reacted to before.

when i took codeine it was after a good 6 months of total abstinence from opiates, and the dose required for euphoria (90-120mg for me) gave me nausea. lack of tolerance will have someone nauseus when taking any opiate, so take it for what its worth.

I think codiene is particularly nasty for side effects compared to most opiates. It's pretty useless, imo.

Same here, especially Hydro. Nausea is not any type of allergy, just a side effect.

I can take just about anything but not codeine It BURNS my stomach and makes me nauseated.

Common side effect.

That is why when docs used to routinely script Tylenol #3, it was the most common thing "back in the day" for say, an ortho surgeon (maybe even tylenol #4 - woo-hoo!) now it seems to be replaced by Vicodin or some other formulation of hydrocodone like norco or lortabs.

So I'm not surprised. So - right after you take it, have a couple of dry crackers and lay down for a little while. Always did the trick for me.

BTW when I worked for the ortho surgeon years ago, the drug reps would drop off CARTONS of little bottles of maybe 4-6 tablets of tylenol 3 and 4, so we could give one to a patient who just had a broken arm set, etc. until he could get to the pharmacy. The doctors used to tell us to "take home whateer" and I wish I would have helped myself a little more - I did, but not enough. Prob my first experience with an opiate high and I liked it.

But yeah, codeine makes me nauseated and I haven't take it since last ssummer, when I ran across some fioricet w/codeine, popped four, and nodded out BAD (even though I had a high tolerance to hydro and oxy) Strange but true..... it was the beginning of the end of my "drug run".... next thing I knew I was back in my hometown and in bupe treatment.

I am the exact same way when taking codeine. It makes me nauseous as hell. No other opiate bothers me at all. A year or so ago the doctor gave me some cough syrup that had codeine in it. I didn't realize it at the time... I took the prescribed dose and about 20 minutes or so later, I was so sick to my stomach. I actually read the pharm insert afterwards and saw that it had codeine in it... I hate the shit. So, if you are sure you didn't take too much (which as jonny5 said and others that it will make you nauseous as well) then its highly likely that you've developed an allergy or it just simply makes you sick. As already mentioned, it really is common. Its also common to get that way with taking too much of anything as well. That is how I know I've had too much Fent.. I get a real slight gnawing twinge in the tummy... works well actually as a warning that its time to back off the shit...

Seems like codeine might be a good substitute for methadone since it's not a very enjoyable opiate but can keep W/D's at bay.

^^ Some countries offer DHC (dihydrocodiene) maintenence - doesn't have the 300mg cieling and has less side effects than regular codiene. Personally codiene barely touches my withdrawals unfortunately since it's otc here. then again so are poppy seeds so why would i bother?

A couple things about codeine. First of all in most people it's closer to 400 mg. And it's not ACTUALLY a ceiling. That's just when no more codeine can be metabolized into morphine at once. BUT, only 10% of codeine gets metabolized to morphine anyway. The other 90% gets metabolized into things like norcodeine and other things i can't remember.

Anyways, codeine is PRIMARILY active because of the codeine->morphine (there's a 6-codeine something in there somehwere too i think), but not entirely. Codeine IS on its own an opioid, just a weak one. So if you were to take over 400 mgs of codeine, it would get more powerful, just not much. The dose-response curve flattens out because of the lack of codeine->morphine, and 600 mg is hardly more effective than 400 mg because of this.

So while a lot of codeine gets wasted when you take over 400mg, it's not pointless per se. Just damn NEAR pointless.

Think about it, if codeine was only a prodrug, the effects would be the same as a one-tenth dose of morphine, and we all know that's not the case, codeine causes far more nausea and itching (for me anyways)
