Thumbs down Morphine Withdrawls, I did it!!!!

Well i dont beleive it, Finally after all these years i have just jumped off of 200mgs of MS Contins a day, been straight for 12 days now, and am so mindset i know i can keep it up.
Surprisingly the withdrawls weren't as bad as I was expecting, still not nice and am still hurting now, but I know it will go away eventually.
I have used little pain releif, about 10 valiums, 4 serepax, 6 200mg tramadol, 12 panadeine fortes and about 15 mogadons-Not all at once!! Speard out here and there over the past two weeks.

So people, It can be done, but for the right reasons.
I will keep you informed of my progress, but i would like to hear from anyone who has ben through or is going through Morphine withrawls.
Take Care, Ariel xx

Well that's good to hear! I'm glad somebody has the guts to do it, Morphine withdrawal is a total bitch most of the time. I seriously don't ever want to do it, but if the supply ever runs out I won't have any choice in the matter. I left a post a few months ago about what happened when I miscounted the days vs. next 'script, and it wasn't pretty at all. Power to ya!

I had a good bout of morphine withdrawels over the holidays. I was down for about a week. I was taking avinza, 60-120mg every other day. My doctor switched my scripts to oxy cr, but they didn't keep the phine away Well, they did for about a week but I think it caught up with me. Anyway, I couldn't do shit, all I did was lay around and hurt.. even when I was taking my meds. I'm not sure how bad it would have been with nothing, but I'm sure it would have sucked a bit worse.

Good luck on the continuation of your sobriety! I'm sure there are a million but what was the number one reason for you to quit?

Wow, as much of a wimp as I am to withdrawals, I can't imagine for the life of me why someone would want to quit like that? unless something so great came into your life that required you to quit I sure have absolutely no desire or will to get off opiates anytime soon for the rest of my life. Long story short I have a mental disability that even my doctor agrees that there seems to have been a severe shortage of natural opium or endorphin etc like production in me since I was little, he even said that's the reason why I"m obsessed with opiates and why opiates have been and still remain the only true miracle anti depressant for me since I started on them two years ago. If only they would get real in the US and totally look into and start marketing opium for depression again.

All the best to you, Ariel! I look forward to hearing more about this feat of yours on Junkylife.

Opiobsessed, I hear you there... the War on Drugs is a real shitter for those of us whose body chemistry seems to be fucked up in the natural opiates department (myself and my soon-to-be-husband both fall into this category.)

Well still kicking the last of the morph out, hurts like hell, but Its worth it for sure, not the best way to be spending christmas and new years
but it did have to be done, and "that little switch in me head" told me its now or never.
Still taking limited amounts of valiums, to help with the sore muscles, and I ve got good friends who are always willing to lend 2 hands for a massage!
Take Care All, Ariel xx

I think morphine w/d will last longer, but a killer Oxy habit can be harsher. Regardless though, an opiate w/d is an opiate w/d is an opiate w/d. They are all in the same league. I even believe that you never go through the same w/d twice. Sometimes my legs are killing me, sometimes not, sometimes my chills are overwhelming and sometimes they are manageable. I think w/d's are like snowflakes, 2 are never alike.

Good job man! I at the time am trying to lower my H dose with morphine. Sounds strange? I use the retard granulate. It lasts 12 hours and I took 120mg 2x, then 100 and now Im at 80 every 12 hours. In addition I take a vera tiny line of H in th evening. So far its ok. The monkey was not bad at all but a good general mood did a lot for this.

If you have problems with the last bit you might want to try those. You can open MS continuus for example, remove the perls until only 10mg or so are left and take them. They last loong.

Wow! Very, very impressive! I was once told that half of one percent of opiate addicts ever quit successfully. I'm not into Contin myself; heroin was my drug of choice. But kicking opioid pills more or less cold sucks! I just kicked a very large methadone habit (of 6+ years duration) this last summer, sometime in July. I had also been on Klonipin. Foolishly, I cold-kicked both and ended up in the hospital for grand mal seizures. 'Done withdrawal is awful! It didn't strike me as quite so intense as heroin withdrawal, but it lasted and lasted and lasted...!!! Hell, I STILL can't sleep properly and it's been months.

You mentioned quitting for the "right" reasons. That is a very interesting point. Would you be willing to share some of your reasons? Once again, good job!

You have raised an excellent point, in my estimation. I have a psych history that is almost scary in proportion. Heroin is the only thing that ever made me feel anything approaching "functionally normal". I was more "stable", in most ways, when I was on heroin than any other time in my life. The only reason that I quit, such as I did, was that I couldn't live with the knowledge that I had voluntarily delivered myself into slavery. Pride and practicality motivated me. The risks associated with doing illegal opiates are well nigh intolerable. Now, I severely limit my dope intake - I've done it twice in almost seven years, if I recall properly. But now that I'm off the 'done, it's starting to become an obsession again. I feel like I'm going through life in perpetual mourning for something that gave everything and cost even more. Is there life after dope? LOL.

What is your current psych diagnosis if you don't mind me asking? I am personally curious, of course, but I also have another reason that I would like to discuss this in more detail if you are willing. (No, I'm not a shrink who is trying to take advantage of you!) Email me, if you would prefer.

It's good to hear you are doing well. I am scared shitless of withdrawals and avoid them like the plague. I have only once had to go through them and I don't plan to go through it again. Methadone withdrawals are more terrifying than the Oxy withdrawals I went through. The Oxy withdrawal was a breeze compared to Methadone, i don't know why that is but, I can't even go 2 days without methadone. If only this stuff wasn't so addictive. If there was no withdrawal associated with opiate use, things would be alot easier. Anyways, good job with that. Keep it up, take care. Kids are a good reason to quit. If you have trouble and feel like using just think of your kids. You can do it, you've made it this far. Take care

Alright Ariel! I am glad to hear that you have other meds to help you through. I went cold turkey when I "quit" morphine...I had a big bottle of the liquid...I was very happy for quite awhile. The psychological part was the hardest for me and I will never be over it. I relapse...I use other opiates...it is a way of life for me..I am in chronic pain from a car accident...oh well!

Anyway, when I kicked it I was kind of freaked out by some of the weird things that happened...maybe everyone knows about this...I really don't go around talking about my withdrawals and habits...so excuse me if I am a dummy here...you MAY get uncontrolable muscle contractions/spasms...the muscles in my limbs were almost in a seizure...it passed but it was sure weird...it was like my voluntary muscles all turned involuntary.
