I suppose most of its functions were absorbed in other U.S. government branches and operations. I wonder what this restructuring is a harbinger of?

Amendment 2169 was the one that shut down the NDIC. Essentially the DoJ has been begging congress to shut down this initiative for years now as it's been a black hole for billions of dollars in funding in doing a function that the NSA, CIA, FBI, and Border Patrol already all do. It's design was to track criminal organizations that moved drugs, and then expanded to tracking connections between terrorist organizations cartels. The DoJ is asking that the money they save by shutting this program down go to hiring more DEA officers.

Too bad they don't maybe consider trying to use saved money to pay down some debt for once. I know that it is a drop in the bucket compared to our debt but if they did that with all saved money it would add up quite fast.
