MS Contin=nothing

So, my PM tried prescribing opana but my insurance co won't pay for them and I can't part with the 700$ to pay out of pocket. They actually won't pay for any oxymorphone and PM wants me on a long lasting med.
I was on the fent. patch but I find those useless.
Anyways, he has me on 30mg of ms contin 3x/day. I take them by mouth but they are destroying my stomach. Is that common?
Also, I feel nothing. Not only do I get no pain relief but I don't even have any side effects from the meds (dry mouth, warm fuzzy feeling, ect.).....its like its a fake pill or something.
I don't get it. I'm supposed to feel something other than extreme stomach pain, right?

Yeah, ya definitely got the shaft from Opana to Morphine.

Morphine would give me stomach aches much moreso than other opioids.

To get any relief from 30mg MSContin is to plug them. Or shoot them, but that's not good. So just plug them.

Is your doc cool with trying other meds? Maybe try methadone with morphine IR or oxy IR on top for breakthrough? Methadone is especially cheap.

Yea plug em. Im in some nasty ass wds right now due to lack of Morphine supplies right nowz. Im actually considering searching for some tar at this point i feel so shitty. Ugh. Anyways yes plug em dont take them orally. Oral BA=30-40% i believe and plugging is like 80-90% i believe. I plug between 60-120mgs of the moe a day so 2-4 30mg purple abg ms's are keeping me happy as a clam. Till this clam has none left such as now. Ugh SO BAD! Make sure you ration cause they go quickand the wds are nasty!

i never liked ms contins either. they all gel slightly, you can sniff em, but i doubt you could get them in an outfit. the ethex ones are different than others, i dont know if i would say better or worse, just the ethex are all shaped like a football/pill shape and are pink. lot of powder.

I would go sick before I would take a ms contin, i know it sounds weird but i was stubburn. Eventually i would break down if i had nothing, but i really HATED those things. Morphine is great in a rig/shot, but only got that once in a blue moon in the hospital. Times I did get it in the hospital were actually pretty fatty shots due to my extremely poor condition.

ms contin or new opana, both kinda suck now. better than nothing, shit, id almost rather be put on norcos hehehe.

I have no problems prepping ms-contins for IV. I use the salt/boiling water method or whatever but it's pretty simple and only takes a little extra time to prep. Not sure if the OP is a shooter

I have a fear of needles. I could never IV. I'd pass out before I found a vein. I don't mind seeing other people using needles, but when it comes to me.....omg, I'm getting heart palpitations just thinking about it. *shudder*

I'll try pushing and see what happens. How fucked up will I be? Happy or drooling on myself? I gotta prepare-it's sushi night ovah heeyah!!

I'd never encourage somebody to start IVing, but I used to have a needle phobia too. Getting shots at the Dr or getting blood drawn was a nightmare and the thought of sticking a needle in my arm grossed me out. Then one day I tried it and it didn't bother me at all, and my needle phobia turned into needle fever.

Whats wrong with the old standby=oxycontin. Even with the new, shitty ops that weve been subject to, oxy still has the best bioavailability by far. SO even with the shitty new anti-abuse tech, you wont find a better oral bang for your buck than OP's. Plus, your ins should have no problem paying for them. At least something to ponder. ALso, i dont understand how fent patches dont work for you? As long as you can get them to stick right, they should work incredibly esp if you dont have a huge tolly. YOu might just not have been on the right does, cause if fent doesnt work for you, I dont much else will.

I didn't see oxycontin listed in the formulary my ins. co. gave me. The only e.r med they listed was the fent. patches and ms contin.
I don't know why, but the fent. just did nothing. I started on 25mcgs and he moved me to 50mcgs after a few months. Maybe that's too low, I'm not sure. I know it was in my system bcuz I did have the side effects, I just had no pain relief. Maybe I'm just expecting too much. Maybe I'll never have pain relief....

my insurance (medicaid basically) is pretty limited on the long acting meds as well. the only real options are the same as yours, with the addition of methadone, and i go with the ms-contin. since i shoot them i'm fine, but since you don't you might want to look and see if they cover methadone. even if they don't it's insanely cheap. in fact i had my doc switch me to 'done when i had no insurance and couldn't even afford the ms-contin. it's great for pain and with one of those free drug discount cards i was getting 90x10mg for $11-$13 (mom & pop vs walgreens). can't beat that price!

30mg MSIR (morphine sulfate instant release). i had him switch me to dilaudid recently but i think i want the msir back as i just don't get hardly any rush from the dillies (even at doses like 32mg).

but for pain, methadone + msir worked very very well for me.

If you said that fentanyl patches don't help you, I doubt morphine will--not at the doses you're prescribed.

Your doctor would have to inject you (IM) with several doses of morphine, until your pain was treated. Like give you 10mg, wait 15 minutes, see how you're doing, then give 10mg more--repeat until you feel well.

Most doctors wouldn't do this, so....

You should try to switch to roxy 30s its what Im gonna do.
Theres 4 types of roxy 30s BTW only 1 type is realy in demand it has an A on it i believe.

you get the mallies right? the 30mg mallies are purple, so i assume that's what you're getting. the hot salt method works perfectly for me (i get the 60s but i used to get the 30s). i remove the coating, crush into fine powder, add a little kosher salt to my water and heat to help dissolve the salt, add the powder, stir, drop cotton, pull up with rig, tap tap, fire away.

i don't know what's up with me and dilaudid these days. i don't think my tolerance is that high but since i got switched to dilaudid from msir i have been longing to go back to the msir. my doc has been very cool about switching my meds whenever i ask, but since he's switched me around a few times in the past 6 months i figure i'll ride this one out for a while. he writes me for the 4mg, and back in the day the rush from 8mg would rock my world. obviously my tolerance is higher now, but today, after not having anything for one week, i got my script and immediately prepped 24mg and while i got a mediocre rush it was just nothing like i was expecting.

A guy who gets 8s was estatic to get ms 15s abg yea I got the mallie 30s also. He wants to trade but Im suspect now .15abg m s contin for 8mg dilaudid sounded like a golden goose landed on my door.
My Dr is burnt.

For PAIN MS contin is the best med I've been on sans Opana. There's really NO high after being on it longer than 2 weeks, HOWEVER, for straight up pain relief it works great. (for me) I guess I should add that.

Now, your dose is VERY low. Try to get up to 60s 3 x daily and I'd be surprised if it didn't start to really take the edge off that pain.
