The lyrics are just SO on point, and the rythym screams opiation.

Wake up young man, it's time to wake up
Your love affair has got to go
For 10 long years, for 10 long years
    The leaves to rake up
Slow suicide's no way to go, oh
    Blue, clouded grey
    You're not a crack up
Dizzy and weakened by the haze
    Moving onward
So an infection not a phase
    Yeah, oh
    [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/m/m...n/wake_up.html ]
The cracks and lines from where you gave up
They make an easy man to read, oh
For all the times you let them bleed you
For little peace from God you plead, and beg
For little peace from God you plead
Ahhaahh, Yeah, Ahhaahh, Yeah, Ahhaahh, Yeah

Wake up young man, wake up, wake up
Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up
    Oh, yeah

Wake up young man, it's time to wake up
Your love affair has got to go, yeah
For 10 long years, for 10 long years,
    The leaves to rake up
Slow suicide's no way to go, oh
Slow suicide's no way to go
Wake up, wake up, wake up
Wake up, wake up, wake up

    This week in drug quotes:

    -Thomas Sydenham

“I had someone at the Houston police station shoot me with heroin so I could do a story about it. The experience was a special kind of hell. I came out understanding full well how one could be addicted to 'smack,' and quickly.”
    Dan Rather

A drug is not bad. A drug is a chemical compound. The problem comes in when people who take drugs treat them like a licence to behave like an asshole. … Frank Zappa

    Wow, never heard that track.

    Beautiful live version, too.

there are a lotttt of songs that i relate to my drug use or connect with on some level when i'm high/copping/whatever. but my favorite has got to be god's bathroom floor by atmosphere. i also really dig the video someone made for it with clips from trainspotting, they did a good job and it fits quite well with the video.

a few others that i feel deserve mentioning are heroin and waiting for the man by the velvet underground, my uncle shoots heroin by ill bill, three seed by silversun pickups, a bunch of songs by circa survive, coheed and cambria, CURSIVE, RHCP, the list goes on and on..

whatever you need to make you feel, like you've been the one behind the wheel. the sunrise is just over that hill, the worst is over.
whatever i said to make you think, that love's the religion of the weak. this morning we love like weaklings, the worst is over.

if you don't want to work, then that becomes your job. there's a lot of overtime, there's not many days off. i hope you know that i'm not trying to complain. it just gets hard to explain, to people that i know or the kids who come to shows, that i just don't want to talk about the office today. cause i've watched friends go from being pessimists to work at home archaeologists. they dig skin deep, they work hard every day unburying their arms for a vein or two that maybe they forgot. and the cops say it's a crime, for people like me and those friends of mine to want to die.

My God, this thread feels like a pretty big challenge to me!!!
I'm really bad in this game-I'm not with those who entered this world with the headphones on their ears,
plus, considering my foreign origin I don't have a direct insight into 90% of lyrics (I mean music that counts for our discussion).
Well, to be honest I'm not very musical person, and you might beat my ass or just feeling endless surprise, but I've never developed the "decent habit" of permanently listening to the music (what about it for junkie?, you might say).

And it's not like I'm not a music lover-I love it and as a teenager (in high school) I remember to be in the forefront referring to that, however, doing dope made me a little bit lazy (musical explorations including), so I stuck/maintained on the same old point I was in the college.
You know: Janis Joplin, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Stooges, Velvet Underground etc., etc...-
the same old good shit; junkies' classic
and hell, I can't even tell I stopped at this age, because most of them is for me just another one more expired title/name; used up, empty, meaningless sound, no matter how good they in fact are.
They just burned out to me, that's all.

Still, it doesn't mean I shut my ears for the music completely or avoid it intentionaly, or so-however, most of what I'm today listening to, are completely random pieces/numbers I'm "catching" on the radio or googling on You Tube---

and hell, they are usually much more powerful than the most flagship songs of junkiedom.
So, while "Waiting for the Man", "Heroin" or even "Sister Morphine" doesn't work on me anymore
('cos I "exploited" it and "dereaved of any sense" completely long time before, driving day by day to the city(open air) with the running nose and headphones on my ears; no wonder: the tollerance affects obviously every kinda incepts, music including),
I'm pretty often very nice surpiced by the fresh, unknown sounds(and lyrics as well)
which hit straight to my brain and make me thrill, without even know the name of an artist or band, or understanding the lyric decent enough. because there's something...something what amuses me staying pretty disturbing symultanously.

Besides, as I once noticed, the best heroin songs are non-heroin songs...

Flagship heroin songs are roughly, crude and... somehow "reduced" to the basical sounds and simplest words ever, as if they epitomize the manner addiction acts/treats you.
I can get it and I like it, however, this simply songs aren't the answer for my most complicated heroin-feelings, like nostalgy...and here comes with rescue the most moving, painful love&loss&miss' songs ever(jazz, blues, some "numbers"/"pieces" by Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, John Porter, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong

    etc.).

...This guy^^^ is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME, an old street-singer (and chipper as well) from Krakow (my city!!!), made a brilliant career, no matter how wealthy he got he didn't change (maybe a little bit...) Just listen to his VOICE!!!

Heroin is an eternal unrequited love, so only the most moving and painful love&loss&miss songs are the proper answer for that call.
Sometimes, I can hear strange sound catching my ear, and I'm feeling something "click" inside of my mind---
hey, hey, wait a minute, just rewind and let me know WHAT IT IS, because that's what I'm looking for!

Hell, they might as well sing about eating cakes, fucking, shopping, paying taxes, stickin' in traffic
and 17645,4 another, most trivial thingies ever, but if they put inside that special undertone---it's for me enough to call it heroin song.
Besides, from what for fucks sake we have our imagination to disposal, with it's unique flexibility and association' skills???

We, junkies are Masters of Associations (especially when w/ding), aren't we?
    We don't need someone "spelling" about heroin;
he/she/they might as well "winking" about and WE WILL understand.

LITERALITY of any kind is needless/non-required or even harmful.

The same manner we can "track down" the poppy cultivation on the North Pole...
...if you know what I mean.
    Hope you do.

i have always, long before heroin, been obsessed with music, art and literature dealing with opiate addiction

the song i always seem to go back to, even now, is Poolshark by Sublime. I know its a cliche'. just that end, "take it away but i want more and more, one day im gonna lose the war"

golden brown = forget the band
lady sings the blues - billi holiday
    Nirvana - lithium, all apologies

    oldie, ralph stanley o death

    O, Death
    O, Death
Won't you spare me over til another year
Well what is this that I can't see
With ice cold hands takin' hold of me
Well I am death, none can excel
I'll open the door to heaven or hell
    Whoa, death someone would pray
Could you wait to call me another day
The children prayed, the preacher preached
Time and mercy is out of your reach
I'll fix your feet til you cant walk
I'll lock your jaw til you cant talk
I'll close your eyes so you can't see
This very air, come and go with me
I'm death I come to take the soul
Leave the body and leave it cold
To draw up the flesh off of the frame
Dirt and worm both have a claim
    O, Death
    O, Death
Won't you spare me over til another year
My mother came to my bed
Placed a cold towel upon my head
My head is warm my feet are cold
Death is a-movin upon my soul
Oh, death how you're treatin' me
You've close my eyes so I can't see
    Well you're hurtin' my body
    You make me cold
You run my life right outta my soul
Oh death please consider my age
Please don't take me at this stage
My wealth is all at your command
If you will move your icy hand
Oh the young, the rich or poor
    Hunger like me you know
No wealth, no ruin, no silver no gold
Nothing satisfies me but your soul
    O, death
    O, death
Wont you spare me over til another year
Wont you spare me over til another year
Wont you spare me over til another year

    --- auto merge ---

    darby crash, germs O
we must bleed (it would be an insult not to mention darby in this thread)

It's Sunday and the streets aren't clear
    The traffic's screaming
    but we can't hear
    The sounds...the metals...
    driving us mad...
    The sounds...the metals...
    driving us mad...
We must bleed, we must bleed,
    we must bleed

The crash as the bottle breaks
Flashes it will through my veins
    The pain...the colors...
    making me sane...
    The pain...the colors...
    making me sane...
    the pain...the colors...
    making me sane...
We must bleed, we must bleed,
    we must bleed

I'm not one I'm two, I'm not one
    I'm two, I'm not one I'm two
I want out now, I want out now
I want out now now now now now
    now now now..
