Where to buy proper saline?

I bought an eye irrigation saline solution, which is 99.5 percent purified water, but in addition to sodium chloride, it contains a very diluted amount of boric acid, which is used to help clean out eyes, and shouldn't be used on any sort of regular basis, no matter how dilute, especially if it's going into your system intravenously.

so my question is, where to find saline suitable for IV (as in nothing but water, NaCL, and preservatives)

You can buy sterile saline online. Do not use the saline solution for eye/contact care.
Here is a link that sells a case of 100 3ml amps for about $15. I am not sure if you need a script, but it gives you an idea of what is out there. Not sure if you can have any deliveries that would look suspicious, but this may be a way to go. This is only one place to look at. Just search other online pharmacies for better prices or issues that meet your needs.

I am sure you may be able to find less expensive amps. You just have to look.

Another option is going to Needle Exchange. They always give out normal saline solution to those who use the exchange. If you use one regularly, ask them each time you go in.

Yeah I frequent the same needle exchange, however they've never offered saline. Kind of weird since the county exchange program is very well funded, I even volunteered there for 3 months a few years ago. I will ask again though, it's been a long time since I checked, and they do take requests.

I was also under the impression that wound irrigation saline, like eye irrigation saline that I have, contains boric acid (as an antiseptic), or other stuff not good for IV use.

Just had the weirdest experience with generic simply saline. It's pressurized can for nasal misting. contents are purified water, sodium chloride 0.9%, sodium bicarbonate to adjust pH. There's no reason I should be having an adverse reaction, but I most certainly am. Heart rate elevated, face flushed, I definitely don't feel right. Any guesses?

I've tried buying saline for IV from several medical sites, and they ALL asked for a license number--basically for salt water!

I guess they feel that selling sterile solution for IV would contribute to drug use, so the ones I called don't do it.

You may be able to find little 10-mL bottles of sterile saline for use in mixing up medicines. Not bad, but I have no source.

Why dont you get just sterile water or bacteriostaic sterile water for injection ?

It can be purchased online legally for about $3 a bottle and someplaces you can buy a tray of 25 for like $30 !

This is the sodium chloride version..It is the cheapest sterile water they have .. They also have just plain sterile water that is not bacterioststic .

I think getting the bacteriostatic is best since it can prevent bacteria from growing.

Why not make it yourself? It's been done for a few hundred years and there are recipes out there... 8-9grams of salt per liter I believe...
