    Default Chest Pains

Hydromorphone is not swims DOC, but he does use it from time to time because the rich and powerful high, the low threshold dose, and the inexpensive price. SWIM has been iv'ing modest doses (nothing over 4mgs) for the last few days, been double filtering, clean practices, etc.

But SWIM has noticed that he is getting chest pains, and he remembers that he used to get them back in the day when he would just snort it to... He doesn't use it often, but when he does the chest pains make him feel like his heart is giving out tward the 4-5 hour mark (after dosing)

Does anyone know why this is? Anyone experienced this before? SWIM doesn't get it from hydrocodone/oxycodone, or even just morphine... just dilaudid.

If you scroll down to the third list of side-effects, the one that talks about seeking a doctor you will notice chest pains are the very first one on the list. In the other two lists there are also chest/heart related symptoms. Some people have reactions to just one specific opiate and are fine with all the others. So please be careful!

I've read other people on here saying that hydromorphone can cause heart attacks if the concentration is too high. So make sure that you use enough water to totally fill the syringe when you prepare hydromorphone shots, so even if you're just using 1 pill, make sure that the syringe is totally full of water.

Some drugs do interfer with the heart's ability to beat, like potassium. Your heart needs a potassium/sodium balance in order to regulate it's beat. Banana's have very high potassium levels, you can eat a banana and be fine, but if you extracted all the potassium from that banana, and concentrated it down so it fit into a 1 mL syringe, then if injected IV that shot could well stop your heart beating. But if that potassium shot was placed into a 1 L bag of saline and slowly administered over an 30 minutes, then it wouldn't cause any problem.

Generally heart problems are not stuff you want to ignore. Personally if I got chest pain from a drug, I'd not take the drug any more.

On other thing it might be, is that bacteria and particles in shots can get stuck inside your heart valves. This is extremely dangerous, people die from it if they don't get immediate treatment.

So if you're going to carry on using IV, it's important to make sure that you prepare your shots right before you use them, and wash your hands before you prepare the shot, and again right before you inject it. Try not to touch the drug with your fingers, don't touch the needle with your fingers, hold it by the plastic part instead. Use clean equipment every time, and when you put the cooker and syringe down, make sure they are sitting on something clean, like the inside of a new syringe wrapper, and placed on top of a piece of clean paper or magazine.

If you have to hold the pill in order to grind it or break it up, then instead of using your fingers, use a needle nosed pliars. Also wipe the pill down with an alcohol swab then let it dry for 30 seconds or so before breaking it up.

It may be worth getting a check-up with your doctor. You don't have to say your chest pain is a few hours after shooting up hydromorphone, but say you are having chest pain sometimes, and are a bit worried about it.

The other thing to watch, is to keep a diary of what you eat, and when you get the chest pain. I started doing this when I was getting chest pain, and it turned out that my chest pain would happen a few hours after eating meals with a fair bit of onions. It turned out to be heartburn from the onions, so I cut back on the onions. The next time it happened, was after Christmas a few years ago, that time was from eating a lot of Dark chocolate and mint candy I got for Christmas. Dark chocolate and mint are both things that can cause heartburn as well.

So it may be that your heart problem, is just heart burn and from something that you're eating, not from the hydromorphone. But it's definitely something that you're going to need to speak to a medical professional about, as heart problems need to be checked out immediately.

The only advice that can be given out in the case of chest pains is to go to the ER.

If you won't do that, you probably need to make an emergency appt for a physical, someone needs to at least do a routine EKG on you.

I know you probably like don't like this "answer", but it is all I can advise. Of course, there are many other reasons for chest pain than heart attack, but I can't guess/hope here.

    Sorry

edit: it is also possible that you are looking at a symptom that isn't really even related to they hydromorphone as you think it is. Sometimes things appear one way to lay people are actually something else.
