    Books on Tape

I'm not sure how many of you out there use p2p apps, like Soulseek, Kazaa, or that sort of thing, but all are great resources for audio books.

I used to make a drive every weekend which took about 15 hours round trip. A day or two beforehand, I would head out to soulseek and download William S Burroughs Books (some read by him), Hunter S. Thompson (same) and lots of others.

Anyone out there commute or have time to listen to what you otherwise wouldn't have time to read?

Yes, I'm in the process of listening to the Hobbit on disc and this is my first one.I got for the drive down to the National Sand Dunes Monument and got about halfway through it by the time I got there. The narration is alittle cheesy but always a good story never the less.I definately enjoy this type of storytelling more than reading, especially being that I read for half an hour and I fall asleep from my eyes straining.

On Vinyl? I spent months in Portland looking for what I have now; quite a few Timothy Leary albums, in fact one with Hendrix. A couple of WSB/Gus Van Sant records, plus something with Cobaine that's 'ok'. Plus 10 or so 'don't use drugs' albums.

(but try downloading any of those tracks and I imagine you'll be dissapointed. there's a great lecture by HST on soulseek right now that's making the rounds. something to check out....)

Another alternative is the eBooks, or digital books. It's probably a more expensive alternative, but well worth it if you love to read, and commute alot. Anyone have one of these? My sister recently got one and I'm waiting to hear if they're worth the $$. Reading and Driving are reality escapes for me, and I usually drive with a book on tape. I much prefer driving through the night, and books on tape have helped me through many all-nighters!

I actually look forward to driving (or having to make my usual 16 hr. round trip, weekend trips) if there is a book I can listen to if I haven't had time to read it. The hours def pass quickly..

I just found Trainspotting, hard copy, by Irvine Welsh @ my local G-will for .50 cent son.

And if I ever have kids I will tell them that I read and about this great find at the Goodwill.
