    Air in Blood Stream

My buddy was shooting, and went to register but wasn't in. pushed a lil deeper and registered. but with the failed register, an air bubble with the volume of a mL or two was in the barrel. Thought nothing of it, and slammed home. within seconds, the air bubbles were felt and heard in my shoulder. like my boy could FEEL the bubbles going up my arm. was scared shitless! now every time IV is used, a lil air always ends up in the vein. I leave a really small air pocket so that blood can rush in and take that place, and it never seemed to have any adverse reactions.

so is this something of serious concern?
I searched, but the results were completely irrelevant.
my parents are like "what the FUCK is wrong with you?", i say nothing, heavily fucking slurring my words, eyes bloodshot and barely open, and continue eating like nothing happened, with chicken grease and mashed potatoes stuck to my fucking face.

    Re: Air in Blood Stream

I know someone would have linked this thread
it provided some useful info, but I dont think anyone had ever heard air bubbles traveling up their arm and to heart.

feedback from fellow opiophiles always appreciated

Are you using a syringe measured in milliliters (mls) or an insulin syringe which is measured in units and is much smaller that milliliters.
I think you will be fine. While the practice should be to inject as little air as possible, it takes much more air than that to cause a problem

Years ago I accidentally shot 1.5cc not units of air. I felt it go up my arm and into my chest where it made a sort of squelch sensation/sound. I'm not dead. From what I have heard from docs it would take 10ccs or more to hurt you. Best not to try it out though.

I've shot around 12cc's of air multiple times and didn't feel it at all or have any issues with it, I think you'd really need to shoot quite a bit to have any problems.

How and why the hell are you shooting 12cc's of air? That is a big ass syringe to begin with, as well. I would stop doing this before there is a real problem.

I've heard 9ml of air should kill you. But I know someone who tried to kill himself by shooting 15ml. He didn't wind up dead, but he does have mild- but permanent brain damage.

I would hope to God that this person is confusing mL's with MICROliters. 12units (microliters) would make much more sense than 12cc/mls.

thanks for the reassurance. The sounds and feeling of the air going up my arm really spooked me.

Ive always noticed that even if there is ari the dope solution goes in around the air and the air is the last thing left in the syringe normally. It doesn't always happen...in fact it rarely does but I've always wondered how people do shoot air since the air is always the last thing left in the cannon.

when I was hospitalized a few years ago, I had an IV that supplied many drugs, I noticed a gap of few inches, I brought it to the attention of the doctor and he told me that for it to do any damage, there would have to be atleast a couple of feet of air, if not more, for it to hurt me, so, I imagine that a few cc's of air wouldnt do any harm, but hey, I dont know if that doctor really knew what he was doing anyway, lol.

I heard the same thing from a doc. If it really was a problem they would shut the iv off as quickly as possible.
