    Default Is OD always immediate?

it's my understanding that if a person were to OD from IV heroin, that it would happen almost immediately. by that i mean anywhere between a few seconds and a few minutes. is this correct? is it possible for a person to shoot up and be really high for like 10-15 minutes or so and then fall out? (assuming there are no other drugs involved before/after the H).

NO THAT IS NOT CORRECT. When I od'd I shot my second shot in the car and then after we parked apperantly we warked towards a restaraunt and I decided i needed to lay down. The last thing i remember is shooting in the car two or three exits away but i was revived in a mid town parking lot. NO THAT IS NOT TRUE.

I agree that IT IS NOT ALWAYS IMMEDIATE. My OD took about 4-5 minutes before it caused me to drop.

I made it several blocks before having to stop and sit down, only to be awakened by a cattle prod while laying in a pool of water back at the gallery in Mexico.

I also had a friend who fell asleep more than an hour after fixing, and never woke up.

I am not sure about this, but I think most fatal OD's happen several minutes after fixing. I have heard of horrible OD's as the person suffocates while conscious gasping for air that won't make to to the lungs because of respiratory failure. Not a pleasant way to go. from what I have been told.

I've had it happen immediately, my friend said "that's a pretty big shot" I said "Fuck it I'm getting high". I pulled the needle out and fell back and turned blue.

Another time I was in a BK parking lot and after I fixed I felt well enough to eat so as I'm walking into Bk I'm holding the wall thinking Damn that's some good dope. I walked up to the counter and fell straight back onto my head and came to in a puddle of blood with EMTs all over me.

Mine have usually been within the first few seconds, which is why oldtime junkies, after fixing, *quickly* hide their dope and rig, we don't fuck around...because if we go out, we don't that being found....

But having said that, if I've been doing *any* other substance, particularly *methadone* it can come on later, and be just as deadly...

I've come to twice with nurse/doctors pounding on my chest, not knowing who I was, or where: it's terrifying, not to be trifled with, and I've also done cpr, in a serious manner, on an od'ed junky....

Oh I've gone out, and felt myself going out, and rubbed ice on my nuts, all that, and still came to on my bed/couch, not knowing how I got there: this stupid tar has done that to me more than once...and I guess that is od...but I still think it's different...real od, if someone isn't there, you die.

Why you should *never* IV opiates, if you have methadone, or longlasting opys in yer system....but I didn't pay no attention either...no overdose ever did anything but make me worry where my stash was, and promise myself that *next* time, I wouldn't do so much, etc...our capacity for self-delusion is infinite.

To be a good junkie you gotta be a con artist, not only with others but with yourself.

Yeah, what DF says.Mine have all taken seconds.

It all depends on what you're taking it,how you're taking it and a few other assorted factors.

i've seen both -friend falling out as soon as the needle came out---he died--brother falling out after a few minutes -brought him back--- ...i think the reason i've never od'd is i ALWAYS let someone go first on a new batch---i've even given alot of shit away as test shots---i don't know what the fuck they put in that shit so i used a tester--then they could also tell me how good the shit was--a couple of my testers fell out but i saved them---whatever you gotta look out for #1

i always told them where i got it and they were testing it for me but scince it was free i guess i only had a few people turn it down

i have od'd on coke----got seizures---alcohol and pills----coma and hooked up to a respirator until i came back
and many blackouts where i just woke up in a strange place not knowing what it was i took---fucking dangerously fun shit

There was a time, I would have thought this did apply to *some* people, fortunately not a level headed occasional, chipper type such as myself.

    I haven't od'd myself.

But what about puking? I remember one time I puked for like four hours straight. Is that just ordinary nausea.

I od-ed once and that was after shooting some very good H. All I remember is thinking 'wow, that was the best flash I've had in ages' and then waking up in an ambulance with a guy asking me who the president of the USA was..
After shooting H it takes seconds but like DF said: with methadone or a mix of opiates/benzo's this might not be the case.

I hope you told the guy that Mickey Mouse was the president.
