URGENT, a friend thinks he OD'd and need's help!
A pretty good friend of mine just called me and thing he OD'd on oxycontin (IV) he said he's dizzy, real cold and is pretty weak! He said he did double his usual dose i think 2 80's instead of one.
Advice, he's still on the line!
Edit: I called another one of my friends and explained the situation, he said he has some narcan is heading over there right now, i will be too shortly!

If he's really oding, take him to the damn ER...anything else, is just arrogance...but I have a feeling...well, if I'm good enough to get on the phone, I'm not o.d.ing...I've gone out twice, and u go out within seconds, and thank god both times I was given CPR and taken to hospital...this ain't Pulp Fiction, and I don't need even my best friends trying to find a vein to give me any "remedies..." Breath in my mouth, and have someone else whack my chest once every few seconds...while yer driving me to the hospital...but hopefully I'll never again come to w/a light in my face and docs staring down at me...unpleasant experience... :-(

Yeah, I agree. That's sort of asinine. If you think you're ODing, then call the fucking ambulance / 911. I know people don't because they're afraid of getting charged with something, but come on. Would you rather be charged or be dead? And if you're hanging with people who wouldn't call 911 if you OD'd, are those the type of people you really want to be hanging out with? I wouldn't.

i have overdosed a few times and not once did i ever say "i think i'm od'ing"
why didn't i? because i was fucking unconcious, mid-seizure, screaming, or incapable of thought
if you "think" you're od'ing, you are just high

o.k....I'm a vietnam vet too...I wonder where he was at: I was up around Hue and Phu Bai, oh well, no biggee...old whitebearded guy....me too...except I'm handsome ... I wonder if he got any of that "skag" over there, came in little plastic vials, usually w/#5 written on it...ahh good old days.... ;-)

heh the last two days in a row ive been stuck in morning traffic on the way to work and this guy flys by me on a harley and on the back of his jacket it says "vietnam vets." both times i thought of duckfeet.

Haha: U'll notice I like talking about my old harley days...but my last "ride" was a vespa here in O.B....but I still got the tattoo, a couple t-shirts, and the fucked up vocabulary... it's so funny, I was yapping w/some of the guys on "majorgeeks" and one of the mods finally jumped in and told me to "watch my language..." ;-) Tickled me: I'm old enuff to be his grandpa...... so I slunk back to Opy in shame ;-)

that guy and a couple others in my neighborhood who are vietnam vets
they like to drink and i like to listen to interesting stories about that war
some of that shit is just soooo sick that it fascinates me, ya know?
so i'd come over with a 12pack and they'd tell me stories... win/win situations
Everything went fine. We got over there and he was with his GF, BARELY conscious, vomit everywhere on the floor and his pulse was really weak. Nobody wanted to get the cops involved because they had like a pound of weed and bunch of pills and shit lying around. I went ahead and injected him with the narcan and almost immediately he woke up. This is the first time i have ever had to use narcan and it really is a LIFE SAVER!
I then went ahead and called him a dumb fuck for scaring us all like that and his GF gave me all (we think) of his Oxy for safe keeping just to make sure he's not trying to kill himself (he said he wasn't but obviously his GF didn't believe him)!
So now im stuck with 20 80's and have to apply some self control so i don't do em all

I am glad your friend is okay, oxyD! Maybe he will slow down a bit for a while. I am surprised he was willing to give up his pills... getting hit with narcan like that, he will need 'em pretty soon. I've never been hit with narcan and I just can't imagine getting woke up abruptly with dry receptors. Mine have pretty much been saturated for the past nine years and to have everything violently stripped away like that horrifies me. But, better to live another day to fill them back up than not. You guys did a good thing.

i gotta agree with shelly here, ive od acouple times, i just passed out er hit the ground, i didnt have time eo decide if iwas oding or not. theres also bee time i thot i was oding, but i was just to high.
i guess better safe thatn sorry, callin a friend and all, i would calle 911 tho. 100 bucks, says its NO OD

Glad your friend is okay. Have to admit that I have the same reaction Shelley has when it comes to these type of threads. I've never OD'ed but I don't imagine many people have the thought "Oh shit I'm od'ing." I'm pretty sure it's more likely that you either wake up thinking "Oh shit did I od?" or you don't wake up at all. Scary shit either way.

That is pretty fucking cool, Shelley: and I know they probably like having a pretty girl drop by anyway...when I first got out of the war, I moved to Gainesville FL, and got my first Harley...in those days, lots of Vietnam Vets, like me, who had enlisted just to get out of the house, and away from family, ended up down in FL, and we'd get harleys, and chase girls and drink beer, and just have pretty good times: it's my best memories of my life, truthfully...
So thanks, to you and others, who put up w/us, now that we're old and grey, and got nothing but stories...we had our day in the sun...*

Well if someone has never gone down, then maybe they have no idea what it's like..... So unlike you, and many others who know you go down like that, and dont have a chance to "think you're oding", they dont realize that.

I think that's probably what really happened: most people don't know what's going on, and if they do too much dope, it can get really strange, and you can freak out, and think you are o.d.ing, and calling someone is jus the natural thing to do, hell, everybody has probably done that...
But I also agree w/Shelley, that my two *serious* overdoses, happened within seconds...all I learned from them was to not fuck around: once I fix, I quickly hide the rig and spoon...every junky eventually learns to do that, so if he goes out, the evidence will be "hid..."

I did not know that...out here, all needle xchanges do is give out needles...and advice...so I guess if you really have the training, go to it...my experience w/junkies, of course, is more negative than yours: my experience is that they just *think* they know how to do all kinds of shit, and I'd just as soon they *not* be giving me injections...but again, you obviously have different experience...and I didn't know you could muscle it, either...so just goes to show...how little I know ;-) a poem...whoopee ;-)

The provision of narcan is still pretty hit and miss.I believe there are about 10 large metro areas that do the training and provision through works exchange.It is spreading around the U.S. and the new generation of nasal narcan is out there too.
If anyone is trained to train others to administer narcan or has even just done narcan training,I'd really like to discuss it further.Please leave me a personal message and I'll get back to you.
Oh and about the speed of od.I believe that the speed of od onset relates to the roa.As Shelley says,if you're shooting,you don't have time to think anything,but god damn.

Yup: like I said, that's why old junkies, after they fix, *quickly* hide their works and shit...so they don't compound the problem, as ambulance...always brings cops...
And I've done CPR a couple times, and it's kind of funny, cuz they when they come to, they don't know why you are beating on them, or why some bearded guy is kissing them...but hey, it's California...maybe they don't wonder about that stuff out here.... ;-)

that only works with heroin
when i've overdosed on coke, i never had the chance to hide my rig
occasionally i haven't had the chance to take the rig out my arm or even finish the shot
i just start to see the world bouncing updownupdownupdown really fuckin' quickly
and that's when i know that i'm overdosing but can't do dick about it
the "bouncing" seems like it goes on for a few minutes but really its 5 seconds or less
