THE JAILHOUSE DETOX=COLD TURKEY?ALWAYS?

From your posting to this forum comes, that every jailhouse detox means cold turkey - is it what they usually treat users in all U.S.? Or just depends on what kind of the states, what region/theritory/area(?) and on the individual law of the state?
In Poland we have very bad drug-law, (they still want to realize the War on Drugs in "american style"), our cops are weird also, but in practice, (related to what I have read here, in the forum) does it look not so bad. The cops are really awfull, so you must be preparing for the worst in first two days in police-arrest after you getting busted, before you landing in jail. But some of the jailhouse doctors are quite flexible and if you really sick they don't let you stay cold turkey, maybe because they're afraid if something bad happens they will be responsible, and because of the other prisoners that getting angry when someone's howling at the night, and like that.
I know the jailhose dtx, it was very bad experience, but as I noticed before the worst was the time in police arrest, till they fullfilling all this papers etc.
So my question is: is it in U.S. forbidden to help pharmaceutically (prescribes some benzos or painkillers) to someone who suffers on wds in jail?

We used to have ultra rapid detox using methadone for anyone convicted.I think the length of detox was a couple of weeks.
Then we sued the prison service,the home office and anyone else involved.We won,the addicts that went through the detox were paid substantial damages and the judge savaged the policy.Nowdays there's MMT in jail or a far better detox.
Score one for the good guys.

in Calif. you go cold turkey if your super sick shitting in your pants and over 50yrs old "sometimes" theyll take you the hospital---but its still CT they won't even give methadone---in Colarado if your on methadone they'll detox you 10mgs a day untill clean then suffer---ain't no joke--thats why we do our best not to get busted---only i prison term in 30yrs of crime---i'm doing allright

That's right, and the way I'd bet it happens...even tho I have filled out all the forms, all that, down at the clinic, where they're *supposed* to take it down to the jail if I get cracked, and the jail is *supposed* to make sure I get it....

But since making a sick junky well is way down the list of jailcop priorities, I expect nothing...I mean, they don't want to be hassled, and all this is to them is a hassle, and even tho I might yell and scream, they don't really give a rat's ass...they know that once I get out, I'm not *really* going to get a lawyer and come back and sue them, or whatever other ilde threats I might conjure up while sick....

Kicking in jail is just part of our life, and kicking methadone is not usually life-threatening...tho we feel like we're gonna die, but again, all they want to do is get us our bunk, and keep us from sticking a shiv in the next guy...

Me getting my methadone isn't important to them at all, no matter what the fee-based clinics now tell us..., so a good policy is to avoid jail haha...

well dirt i got darvon n back in the , 70s in CoCo Co. jail, but i know they dont do that anymore since i ct it a couple times there and i was worse off than the time they gave it to me, shit i didnt sleep for a month one time and they put me in a private cell cause i was so bad. another time up north they gave me benzos and codeine to take the edge off cause this jail nurse thought i was gonna die since he had told me this on 2 previous occaisions. anyway go for the darvon n and sometimes theyll givem up cause it doesnt have as bad a rap as others

If yer on mdone, and think there's *any* chance at all of spending more than 24hrs in jail--usually only felonies--then I'd seriously suggest going and talking to a bondsman, and making sure they know u can make bail, and need to get out quickly...the only good thing about methadone and jail, is that u can go a day or two kicking methadone before it starts to get really bad...but, again, the rights we think we are legally entitled to, and the rights we actually posess in an american jail, are very different...

This is not to scare anybody: if yer not out pulling robberies or whacking people, you probably aren't going to be up against it anyway, but again, jails are underfunded and understaffed,and the last thing they are concerned about is some sick junky crying in his cell...I've kicked while locked up, and always was treated fairly decently by my cellies, and mostly just tried to get myself up to eat and then back to laying and shivering until it got better....it always does....then it's dominoes and shooting the shit, same as jail always is...

I guess we're very, very spoiled in the Netherlands. People on MMT can stay on MMT in jail. Others can taper but still get a decent dose of methadone from the start. On the worst days you can even get the odd benzo..
First thing most junkies will ask for when busted is to see a doctor instead of a lawyer and get their meds..

What does happen in Chicago (cook county) is if u get locked up in the county for however long or waiting to get transfered to the pen,
They will give u a 21day meth detox, but only if u are in a mmt clinic, but if a real bad junky or buying ur meth off the streets & get locked up, u kinda FUCKED, what they give u is this stuff that is green & has a minty taste, bla bla But I no it's N-Quel(sp) for sleep then they give u something for ur stomach(bentyl)sp.
So u gotta be on the mmt program or u getting nite-quel to sleep & a stomach pill.
In the joint/pen u GETS NADA NOTHING unless u r RX'd a certain med maybe high blood presure.
In jan when I was locked up for susp of murder & did 8 days, I was in a cell 23hrs a day, no meth b/c not on the program yet, & told me to go fuck myself for being rx's xanax & klonopin's for (10 fck'n yrs) nope deal w/it, & I did, well I had no choice.

In Rikers Island jail which is the county jail for all 5 boroughs you get 20 mg of meth if your on heroin but they will give you your full dose if your on a meth program. If you got a felony your getting detoxed.

in canada if you're on methadone on the outside you will get it in the inside. all i got was some shitty clonodine though. any prescriptions on the outside they will not give you on the inside. they'll give you a tylenol or ibuprofen though.

In Georgia they will take your vitals and if its real bad or you act up they send you to the hospital. Maybe some serequil if u act the fucking fool but who wants that shit?

if you look **real** sick, they throw you in "detox cells"
which is the same as a regular single-person cell except NOTHING IN IT

I spent too many three day tours in the Tombs in Manhattan. No chance in hell at the guards or anyone else treating you like a human.

As far as I know, once you get to Rikers, if you are on the program on the outside you can get back on it once you make it to the island.

Upstate jails denied me anything at all when kicking. Not even Tylenol. I was on the program when I got thrown in the county upstate one time and they refused to give me my methadone. I was on the program in NYC at the time though if that makes a difference.

When I got popped in the Bronx w/ 3 bundles, I said i was gonna be real sick and the screw said once i checked into central booking i could go to the hospital but it would add 3 days to booking time. I called their bluff, got the hospital bus, got 65 mg of done, and saw the judge a full 12 hours before my friend who got popped with me, and chose to tough it out. Go figure.

I've definitely been denied even the option of the hospital other times I was locked up in the BX, though. So it varies.

It is hell, but u not gonna die, yea when we do get locked up, they do treat us like the lowest scum on earth when u addict, days when I was being let out, u no how u number gets called b/c they let out sometimes 15-50people at 1 time. There's actually been articles in the Mass Journal of Medicine now saying that opiate withdrawals can kill you.

I will try to find them.

Edit: Heroin addiction, as well as all opiate addictions, usually require medically monitored detox for the severe withdrawal symptoms the drugs produce. Heroin use causes a strong physical dependence and therefore opiate detox can result in serious complications when the use of the drug is stopped abruptly. Cold-turkey heroin detox and withdrawal symptoms can include seizures, heart irregularities, vomiting, insomnia and the sweats. Once the body has adapted to the presence of the drug, withdrawal symptoms may occur if heroin use is reduced or stopped. Opiate withdrawal, in regular abusers, may occur as early as a few hours after the last administration. It may also produce drug craving, restlessness, muscle and bone pain, diarrhea, cold flashes, goose bumps, leg kicking movements and various other physical symptoms. Most heroin detox and withdrawal symptoms peak between 48 and 72 hours after the last dose. Sudden withdrawal from some synthetic opiates such as methadone can be fatal.

CONSEQUENCES OF UNTREATED WITHDRAWAL

Detoxification is defined as a medically supervised procedure intended to insure a safe, effective, and humane transition to a drug or alcohol free state. (3) Failure to initiate detoxification of physiologically dependent persons following cessation of use results in the onset of acute withdrawal. The nature and intensity of withdrawal symptoms vary depending on the substance, duration, and quantity of use. (4) Symptoms range from mild discomfort to severe pain and death. Cocaine and stimulant withdrawal symptoms range from mild dysphoria to severe irritability, sleep disturbance, depression, and frank psychosis. (5)

Opiate withdrawal typically begins with yawning, lacrimation, and rhinorrhea and progresses to nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, myalgias, fever, tachycardia, and hypertension. (6) The severity of opiate withdrawal has been linked to the quantity and route of administration of the opiate. (7) Given the nearly ten-fold increase in the purity of heroin sold on the street in the U.S. in past fifteen years, (8) it is likely that opiate withdrawal has become more severe. (9) Symptoms of heroin withdrawal usually begin four to six hours following last use, peak within forty-eight hours, and subside within five to seven days.

Although opiate withdrawal is not usually fatal, deaths in jail due to inadequately treated opiate withdrawal have been reported. (10) The risk of withdrawal complications is heightened by the presence of co-morbid conditions. Opiate dependent persons have high rates of concurrent illness including HIV and hepatitis C infection, pneumonia, and endocarditis (infection involving the heart valves). (11) Furthermore, symptoms from opiate withdrawal may mask symptoms of life-threatening conditions such as sepsis (blood infection), pneumonia, myocardial infarction (heart attack), appendicitis or even alcohol withdrawal. Severe activation of the sympathetic nervous system accompanies untreated opiate withdrawal and may precipitate chest pain or myocardial infarction in persons with underlying coronary artery disease.
