Well my doc finally gave me something to help with my ADHD again: daytrana 20mg patches. Basically a transdermal system for ritalin. It's fucking great but I was wondering if it's possible to abuse.

AHAHAHAHAHA,
this thread just made me laugh like a cracked out hyena, don't know why...
Anyways, one of the main purposes for designing the patches was to reduce the potential for abuse so you may be SOL.
are they gel patches? If so, you may be able to extract and do something with it...
I think the 20mg patch means per hour and they're like 9 hour patches or something right? if that's the case you should be able to just chew the thing and get plenty of MPH to feel good, if you like that sort of feeling. There's got to be a way to extract it too though, it's not gel but still.
Edit: Wait, 20mgs per hour is too much even for the most hyper kid on the planet, but I could have sworn that the dose written on the box was a per hour thing. . .
OK, I just read up on it again and the 20mg patch has 55mgs in it and delivers 2.2 mgs per hr. The "20mg" part must mean it's indicated for someone who dosed with 20mg tabs 3 times a day maybe, because the '10mg' patch contains 27.5mgs and gives 1.1mg/hr so that's about a 10 of ritalin 3 times a day. Another thing about those is that I think they contain only d-methylphenidate, instead of a mix of the dex/lev like ritalin, which seems to be preferred when it comes to recreational use of amphetamines in general. I know I am partial to dexies over the mix of salts in adderal.

This is your brain on drugs. . . any questions?
search for some old threads by a member named Zoop,... or Zoops... he used to have some sort of dealio for messing around with those things.

Alright. I still haven't tried this, but SWIM's doctor prescribed him the same thing because the doctor thought he wouldn't be able to abuse it. He was wrong.
When SWIM chewed a 20mg patch for 30 minutes, he got a euphoria unlike anything methylphenidate has ever given him. If you put 55mg straight up your nose, or even 100mg, you wouldn't feel this high, not that he recommends doing that. It was like almost-pure cocaine, that lasted for an hour and a half, and had the cleanest comedown ever. He even reported that it numbed his mouth, just like good cocaine.
SWIM believes that within 1-2 years this will be the new club drug. It can be sold much cheaper than coke, lasts longer, and feels just as good. Hardcore cokeheads might not like this, but casual coke users will love it.
SWIM believes Shire Pharmaceuticals has created a monster which it is now powerless to stop. He also believes Zoops was unfairly chastised in that previous thread because the people in that thread didn't realize that chewing Daytrana is to blowing Ritalin as smoking crack is to blowing coke--only it lasts longer!

i hated ritalin when i was prescribed it. i only took it for a short time in high school to try to lose weight, but it stole my personality. god i hate that shit.
^^Yea, it's nasty. I was on Concerta for a while in my youth and it was horrible....
JESUS NAILED TO WOODEN T'S
CANNOT COMPETE WITH MY DISEASE
I gotta say guys, this stuff is for real. This is like comparing fentanyl with percocet. Sounds lame, but some day you will come across one of these - and I would say try it before you knock it. You will be surprised, trust me. Just dont stick the thing to your body. There is 55mgs of methylphenidate in a 20mg patch, and it all comes out insanely fast via the mouth. Fully numb. I have never felt the same way on any ritalin pills.
And of course if you have had bad experiences with any drug, dont do that drug
thats what's up, cracks
i never had them personally, but i have had ritalin, concerta, the extended release ritalin, snd i like methylphenidate so if i see them ill watch for them
i never really had any *bad* experiences w/ methylphenidate, save for the time i opened a 36mg concerta, separated the good half from the shit half, scraped out the yelow powder in to a little 36mg line, presumably and snorted that...
BIG mistake...it felt so jittery and really was awful; made my heart skip beats, i started sweating, all that...
but thats a novel approach to administering the drug
I was diagnosed ADD....
my internist tried to get me to get on ritalin.
I didnt want it. I thought it was more comparable to meth than cocaine.
ends up its more similiar to cocaine in activity, at least according to many sources.
I have only tried ritalin a few times, and never more than 10 milligrams at a time.
which did me just fine,...
mixed great with opiates and dxm low dose combination.
I think that opiates work just as well for me for ADD.
a good part of that activity might be attributed to complimentary dopamine release through stimulation of dopamine receptors via opiate receptors in the ventral tegmental region of the mesolimbic system.
Dr James H Austin is a neurosurgeon that worked with teams in the 70's and 80's on the opiate receptors and how they affect attention, memory, cognitive function in general....
obviously we are talking about the right dose of opiates to fix the problem...to little or too much is not going to work...and various types of opioids might not apply to this activity.
the research was with beta endorphin and its synthetic counterpart known as Morphine with a capital M.
it seems that Morphine injected into this part of the rat brain does not cause tolerance or addiction or withdrawl sytmpoms when the Morphine is no longer administered.
the few chapters where he specifically explains cognition and opiate/dopamine (opioidopamine!) functions leads me to believe that opiates/endorphins are just as important when it comes to learning and memory as dopamine is.....if not more.
the possibility that Morphine and codeine are produced in the body, much in the same way the alkaloids are created in the plant is intriguing.......is it possible that in the ventral tegmental region, the small amounts of morphine needed to do the experiment testing tolerance and addiction is actually an area where ENDOGENOUS Morphine works in its possible natural function?
this Dr also reported a study in England I believe in which another part of the brain on the top section in the middle, is scarred with a bit of dry ice....a pea sized lesion is created.
some people walk away with no opiate withdrawls...or when the opiates leave their system later. some reported months of support, and some experienced euphoria...for possibly up to a few years from the study. it seems an important study, but would probably need to be done chemically in some way, brain surgery for addicts would probably not go over well,....but those same people that would not want this operation, would probably have no problem scarring their brains from the inside out with a chemical agent.
sort of like how irreversible MAO's work.....
there are probably many ways to effect attention and hyperactivity disorders, at least in some small way....
herbal, synthetic chemistry, natural products isolates, etc etc.
I still consider that I might want to at least have ritalin hanging around.........
the drug (ritalin) really helped my mother out a few years ago.
she was having problem getting diagnosed for a type of immune disease...
and she was going through losing her best freind to cancer, and her husband to another women (a women about my age)....her work as a draftsman for a large corporation was being threatened, they were playing dirty, and trying to fire her because of her medical condition in sneaky ways .....
she was at her bottom pretty much, and she didnt cause much of the problems herself, this all just coincided on her...
anyway her internist put her on ritalin for ADHD.
within a month she was physically able to work, lose weight, get back on track, and finally even got her immune disease correctly catagorized almost 6 months later.
but the interesting thing was, that the ritalin almost hid her condition from what ended up being Hashimotos thyroid disfunction..
it was months until she got the right treatment for that...
but the ritalin really within a week turned her life around. it was the fulcrum that aided her swing back into being able to physically and mentally deal with the corporate bullshit she was dealt, and with the weight loss and increased libido I imagine and also socially being able to function again...she found herself a german engineer boyfreind......and moved on more from the disastrous divorce.
I have also listened to a few Dr's tell me about opiate addicts that get on ritalin and end up having an easier time staying off the junk, I know that is no big news, and its probably a potential dangerous thing for some people to do....
I also remember seeing data in a book on psychedelics, that researchers in Japan used LSD and ritalin together in a treatment on a women with severe eczema that had defied treatment before.......perhaps it was just coincedence that the dermal suffering that covered most of her legs cleared up....
it makes me wonder...
ritalin "seemed" to help my mothers thyroid immune disease at least for awhile....and ritalin "seemed" to help this women with severe eczema, which can be an immune disease condition as well......
can ritalin help other immune diseases?
or is this just a misperception of one of the uneducated?
I think its a fascinating drug, having experienced it....
I know it effects people differently.
cocaine gets me high, causes paranoia, and inhibits my sleep pattern unless we are talking taking coca leaf.
coca leaf had the effect of making me sleep better.....isolated cocaine does not help me sleep better.
perhaps its the other tropanes in the coca leaf, I know that large amounts of coca leaf in south america I took, called coca flour, gave me some tropane like symptoms, dry mouth, stomach and bowel side effects, and I got great sleep, as a matter of fact, it seemd to help my insomnia a bit ,that was partially from taking opiates (codeine) on a daily basis back then.....
ritalin didnt stimulate me to a great degree, I was very smooth feeling, focused sure, but also a little euphoric, and calm. opiates help me work in that they seem to create tonic like effect in me, at the right dose, I do not nod, am stimulated, but relaxed.
if someone would have slipped me this dose of ritalin, I probably wouldnt have known a difference from opiates, having been on them already, I probably wouldve just thought that I was on a "good day"...
and did u also know Jacky, that methylphenidate specifically is sometimes prescribed in low doses (ie maybe 5 to 10mg bid or tid) in addition to opiate analgesics for ppl suffering from chronic pain, especially cancer, and it is believed that it helps with the pain-killing properties of the opiate....but alone, it's just a stimulant...i thought that was interestingm, and that only methylphenidate is used like this, no classic amphetamine has this property, nor do some of the newer esters of mph that are being marketed as ADHD meds....also mph has the ability to aid depression, and is actually indicated for that in cases where patients do not respond to traditional modalities of treatment...
i thought that was an interesting, "FYI"
Yes you can abuse them. You cheek them (buccal) just like mylan fentanyl patches, with a lil chewing here and there thrown in for good measure.
