    Default A question of race

I may be treading on thin ice here, but I have a question about methadone and race. In all the years I went to clinics I met/saw maybe 1500 patients. Of all those at least one and maybe as many as three were non-white. Is it cause, culturally, we (whites)are more trusting of the medical community? I know there were black and hispanic addicts all over the place, just not in the done clinics. Anyone have comparable experience, or ideas why this happened.

I found this from Toledo. Maybe I'm full of it.

The clinic I went to I was one of the few white dudes there out of 500 clients.

I don't think it's a questions of race, rather a question of economics. It really depends on what part of town your meth clinic is in. In more disparaged communities clnics will likely be frequented by ethnic groups, since that is who lives in the area, and more affluent communites will tend to be more caucasion oriented. Again, no racism involved, simply socio-economics.

    It's saddening really.

i think its the demographics of the area. if your in a poor neighborhood with bums all around, most likely the minorities aren't going to go. They've lived their lives in missed opportunities. Living on the southside, i would walk to the bus in the mornings to go to work, and i'd see my neighbors open their first 40 of the day (7:30am). I'm sure if i was a drunk I wouldn't see my neighbors in AA. Guess why would you stop what you like if you've got nothing to live for.

Maybe things are different in the UK or at least in the small town where I live. Here, admittedly most of the people at the methadone clinic I go to are white but then so are most people in the area. I wouldn't think anything of it if someone of a different race/nationality were to show up.
