Thank God for the cozy pink handcuffs - I couldn't live without 'em!!!! .... Getting high isn't as fun as it used to be,-granted- but the things I'm able to accomplish now thanks to methadone are incredible. Fucking Negraponte can take a flying fuck as far as I'm concerned - Methadonia was a crock of shit - Methadone is the best thing the Germans ever had anything to do with, Volkwagons included. I just wanted to let everyone know that I love my medicine, and I'm going to take it without shame for the rest of my life if I need to. I've got nothing but good things to say about it. It's saved my life. I think it's a Godsend.:D :D

Yo Junk Yard Saint, Im really glad to hear that, I have been on suboxone for over a year now and it doesnt help the cravings at all. I was actually thinking about doing the methadone thing. The only worry I have is that I have a job I cant loose, are there clinics or docs that will prescribe me methadone without me having to go to the clinic or doc every day? If not, then meth cannot be an option fot me. I truly hope someone can answer this for me because I have still had some controlled relapses on suboxone. I want to get help w/ meth so I can cut down on my cravings to use. Thanks in advance

Regular Dr's can only prescribe Methadone for pain.

Well good for you, pal. It's good to hear some good news, and a happy camper to boot. I'm a recovering heroin addict, and a friend of mine used to have Adolphi's. I think that's the name. I must say I enjoyed the feeling I got from those pills. Methadone for me though turned me into one mean mama after about thirty-six hours. Don't know why, but I sure liked the little comfort it brought me.

Cheers to the original poster, glad methadone works great for you, your post makes me consider very strongly to kick the suboxone i've been on since march and walk right into the clinic 15 mins from me. I have a strong feeling I will do much better on methadone than the subs I take everyday. I too have had 3 relapses just this year and the cravings for vicodin are still there and now I am getting this strange eye thing where I keep having to blink my eyes all day long off and on like my eyes feel like they are too dry or something. Anyone else get that discomfort on opiates? I see my sub doc soon and am going to discuss methadone with him. Only risk I take going to done is I'm self employed and if I go without money for even a few days cuz I'm not making any money I will be screwed. Only thing I'm going to have to be concerned about being on done is making sure I have the cash every week, the clinic by me only takes cash weekly.

It is nice to hear that someone is happy with the meth!!! I am too. I was on suboxone first...I ate them like candy, just trying to get the physical withdrawl and the cravings under control. I was on the highest dose of sub. and it didn't help like the methadone! I did think that It would be a pain going to the clinic everyday, but I just made it a part of my morning routine, like making coffee or brushing my teeth. Now it is no big deal! I am still trying to get to my correct meth dose, as I am still experiencing veery strong cravings, but all-in-all, i feel soooooo much better. The only thing I have noticed on the meth is that all of my food tastes funny now and nothing is appealing to me...Almost everything I try to eat makes me gag! Does anyone else have this problem since being on the done? However, this not so good side effect is great for my diet!!! LOL

You might try going to a DO instead of an MD They seem able to write scrips for more than just pain.

I've been on mdone maint several times. I always liked it first week a lot, second week not so much. Always gave me huge constipation problems, and a general sort of "lay around and eat ice cream" thing I hated. So I switched back to subs.

I prefer the subs, simply because u can get them from private doc, and I hate the clinics. But I agree. U get no buzz on subs, and worse, there are occasional cravings, which methadone did get rid of. Both get rid of withdrawal symptoms, and having kicked both, I think they actually are similar. Both sort of stay with u a while, kind of wear u down with depression and shit, IMO.

I personally am glad they are both available, rather than just one or the other. But I still think it is chickenshit as hell not to give us the option of being on diamorphine maintenance, as a third option.

Goddamn, could you fuckin imagine some good quality Gov't diamorphine!! You wouldnt have to deal with all the xtra shit people cut into some of the black I have gotten in the past. And dont say people dont add shit to it, cause I have seen some nasty shit left in the cooker after copping from some certain areas.

I agree--nothing will fix me permanently. I have had all the heroin I want for short periods, weeks. All the dilaudids I want for short periods, months. What ails me there is no cure for. But as far as temporary relief, heroin will do. And it's not the government's job to decide what pale imitations they can give me. Which is why I'm unsatisfied with the calvinistic attempts to give me something that barely works without any semblance of making me happy. I want the choice. I get tired of anything, eventually. But I would like to get tired myself, not have Nanny decide what I can and cannot do.

Shaunclo, it is pretty quick and easy, as long as your are compliant with the rules, to build up TH's so you don't have to go every day. I have been there 2 years and am about to move to every 3 weeks.

I agree with JYS--it has stopped my cravings and allows me to go about my life, in a more efficient way than short acting opiates ever did. But I also agree with Duck--the gov't should not tell me what to do w/my body, and in some ways, yes, it is a "pale imitation" of what I used to do.

Not to hijack the thread, but I feel the same way about methadone for different reasons. Although after five years of usage, its not as effective as it used to be, methadone has given me allot of effective pain management over the years. Not having insurance, the long last effects of methadone have been a god send, given that anything that would come close to it is very very expensive. Methadone is dirt cheap! And tit for tat, and I've taken everything from dilaudid to morphine to fentynal, it has been as effective for me, as any of the others. But, as they say, all good things must come to an end, and looks likes five years of tolerance is just making methadone ineffective. But its been great while it last! So, yeah, I love methadone too! At least there was something good that come out of WW2.

I'm recovering from warwounds, once in a while picking up some thinkjuice (whatever may classify as such), and I am going to give the Blow another "SHOt" and if I don't get off this time, i'm going to quit.. I am half hoping that Hormone replacement therapy will be enough to keep me satisfyed, until I hit the road again,... ...,if I ever do.

Hi shaun, if you an get into a Pm doc they can RX mehtadone in the from a prescription you take to the pahrmacy and get filled. It's illegal for a MD to X for MMT not CP.

If not, and MMT is your only option, In the begining you wil have to go to the clinic everyday for a while until you have bee ther for whatever lenght of time they requite to get your take homes. I used to go once a moth and get a months worth of take homes this was stricly for MMT not pain.

Also a lot of clincis have evening hours for people who work, might be something wth looking into.

I just started the 'done last week and must say that I am also very very happy with it:). Swim had a relatively small habit of two bags a day and is currently on only 40mgs of the 'done, but it keeps me in a warm state of happiness all day and gets completely rid of cravings. The only probelm that I have also noticed is the constipation, but I can live with this. I plan on staying on 'done the rest of my life (and i'm only 21) because I know that if I stopped I would be right back to slamming H. So far 'done has allowed me to completely give up alcohol and adderall (which I fucking despise) and all other drugs for that matter. Horay for 'done!!!!!!!!:) :) :) I also have no problem getting up at 6 a.m. anymore lol, I used to sleep till at least 12 everyday.

That's funny there are alot of doctors that prescribe methadone in FL. I have never seen anyplace that has so much done on the street. I know a lady who gets over two hundred a month. I know the doctors are only supposed to prescribe for pain but these people arent getting them for pain. I think thats how the docs get around it.

Give it a while, you probably wont feel like that anymore! Everyone likes it the first couple of months

Actually, it seems like for most people two to three years is when your most happy. I think people then stop feeling it and start to think it's not doing anything so they think they can get off it and be normal. YEAH OK, I will never be normal.

Just up the dose if your not feeling satisfied and happy anymore. Methadone will NEVER be dope and will never give you the warm love it gave you, but thats why it's a good thing because there is no feeling to chase day in and day out. You know everyday you will wake up and get to feel better (even GOOD) for a few hours and then it's back to normal. If your tolerance does go up it's going up a whole lot slower than any other opioid your going to take. I mean, whens the last time you heard of being on the same amount of dope for five years and having it still work against withdrawal AND craving? So after five years you had a good run, but why not just up the dose again? Your tolerance for other opi's is ruined now anyway and unless you plan on trying cold turkey and staying completely drug free you might as well run with the one drug that still MIGHT work for you!

Just my odd opinion but hell I take a lot of freaking 'done a day and if I need to go up again I will have NO problem doing so...whatever the hell it takes to make my mind stop thinking about IT IT IT and ONLY IT! I don't care if I am up to a 1000mg in a few years. I mean I am on methadone with all it's pro's and con's does it really matter how much I am taking? This girl has no desire to be a martyr!

i've been on methadone maitenance for 8 months after a failed suboxone trial. i love my liquid handcuffs too. its there waiting in my refridgerator for me every morning. so comforting. i even love the whole process of driving to the clinic, talking in line and going home with a week worth of comfort.
it saved my life too man, and i agree methadonia was a crock. all those people were taking a shitload of benzos with their dose. a regular done patient doesnt nod out from the done alone. it takes some kpins and xanax for the twist to get you. all in all, a great therapy. and shaunclo, once you get past the initial frenzy of 3 days off suboxone, i think you would benefit so much more from the methadone. suboxone just sets good people up for a relapse. its an experimental drug and the lab rats for it are us junkies trying to get better.

Its a hell of a commute to the clinic by bus though and being that I saw in someones post about an addiction doctor my wheel are turning, however squeeky they may be. I was high as a kite, so i used cocaine to stay awake literally every single day and ended up getting kicked off the clinic. Now its what 4 years later and now i am educated on methadone and i am at the correct dose, 115 milligrams. and i have to say i havent used heroin in 2 1/2 years! I have no urges those are gone. So yes i believe it has done justice for me. I now have kept the SAME job for the past 3 years. It just feels good to have all your bills paid and have a roof over your head. Right now i thank that all to methadone. Casue if i wasnt on it i would still be out there and i would be BROKE! The only thing that i dont like is that i have gained alot of weight! has anyone else experienced that? I mean not like 5-10 pounds im talkin about 20-30 pounds! Thats the only bad thing oh yeah and not being able to go to the bathroom!

The grocery here has a store brand of yogurt and they have this cinnamon vanilla flavor that is the BEST tasting goo ever made. I couldn't possibly add anymore yogurt in my diet. : )

ME, too!!! I've gained about 40lbs. and boy do I feel gross!!! I've been on mmt for a little over a year. For the first 6 months ALL food tasted weird to me..then that built in diet was over..everything tasted AWESOME and I've been living life on ice cream sandwiches! (:rolleyes: I wonder if THAT is why I have gained 40 lbs!!!) Maybe I am just sooooooo damn constipated that I have just 40 lbs of back up!!:D

I, myself have definately suffered a huge weight gain and a huge appetite for sweets etc and I've only been on methadone since the end of August of this year. I used to be 130 pounds max and my pants were always a bit loose, but now wow I'm 180 pounds and I can't even fully zip my normal pants up or even button them for that matter. I ate a big candy bar all at once on the way home from the clinic the other day.

Strange thing is, I notice methadone doesn't make me near as constipated as hydro or any other opiate used to.

Methadone probably saved my life. I was bit desperate... and there was dope in the beginning of done also. I had withdrawals all the time; not all the time, not just after dosing, but afternoon. Then they put me in peak and through, and it showed that my levels were so low that I got more done, and now I'm doing rather well all the time, plus I dose twice a day. Not much overweight on me, but I'm rather tall and wide (and I'm working in greenhouse, very physical work). I don't much crave heroin or fentanyl anymore, methadone is quite enough -- of course sometimes but the bad side of the coin is so well remembered!

BTW, strange thing in methadone is that eating and smoking cigs gives me much more pleasure than ever before, never ever before I have loved eating like now

after about 3 months you will still love your done but that high will have faded away. It has been 90 days for me and I am sick and tired of driving the 25-30 mile daily round trip to the clinic. I still love what the done has done for my life. I am on 160mg a day and cant get that feeling back even if I double up. I am going to try and not drink my take home dose today if i can.

You should start planning a taper instead of just skipping your dose today. You can continue getting the 160mg but taper it down and keep the extra just in case. One thing you don't want to do is just kick a methadone habit Cold Turkey. You're in a perfect position to bring down your tolerance the right way.
