Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried poppy seeds? the way I heard it is what you take around 300 grams and crush them, put them in lemon, than boil it. Does anyone know if this relly works? I hope so. Please let me know. Thanks.

Apparently, it does work, but it's rather mild. I have some seeds I am keeping just in case of emergency.

You do not have to crush them, just mix with hot water and a little lemon juice. The "goodies" are on the outside of the seeds, because those seeds were once tucked inside a poppy pod, awash in poppy sap. Tiny amounts of the poppy juice remain on the seeds, and that's what is rinsed off with the hot water and lemon juice.

Some seeds don't do anything, while others are pretty OK, it depends. I guess it's hit or miss.

Thanks for the info. Ok since I'm new at this, do you have to drink down the seeds or do you strain them out and drink the water lemon mixture? Seems like alot the swig down.

Just made a batch this morning. Used about 300g or so. Here's a
technique I've had success with:

1. In a 2qt plastic pitcher, dump in the seeds.
2. Boil a couple of cups of water and add it to the seeds.
3. Stir the mixture around (make sure the water covers
the top of the seeds by about 1/2" or so, add more hot
water if needed to cover the seeds).
4. Add a cup of lemon juice (bottled stuff is fine).
5. Stir the mixture around for a minute or two.
6. Wait 10-15 minutes or so.
7. Strain the water out of the mixture and enjoy.

I generally dump in some ice and sugar into the
tea and have a mediocre lemonade.

You can get some goodies from the seeds by going
through this procedure one more time. A third try
is a waste of time, IMHO.

Works best on an empty stomach - first thing in
the AM is my preferred time. :p
