Palladone (hydromorphone hydrochloride) Sales and Marketing Suspended Because of the Potential for Severe Side Effects if Palladone is Taken With Alcohol
FDA issued a public health advisory to notify health care professionals and consumers that the sponsor of Palladone, Purdue Pharma, has agreed to suspend sales and marketing of Palladone (hydromorphone hydrochloride, extended release capsules), a potent narcotic painkiller, because of the potential for severe side effects if Palladone is taken with alcohol.

Once again, this is what we have to thank our wonderful lawyers, defending the helpless and weak masses.
Purdue is just making a business decision. They figure it's likely to be abused by some junkies and combined with alcohol, which is pretty likely. With the way the court system in America is today, lawsuits being totally out of control, it is highly likely that some screwball judge somewhere would find Purdue liable for deaths caused by the irresponsible use of their product. Same thing with the firearms industry. They are finding companies liable for acts commited by people over whom they have no control.
Thanks law profession.
Anyway, it's not like hydromorphone is being pulled.

Just another example of good old American hypocrisy...As if a person so inclined couldn't just take any opiate/opioid with alcohol...or for that matter some benzos and alcohol...Yes, I know that their expressed concern was the matrix being compromised but you have the same pharmocokineticks with any timed release prep and none of them are getting this kind of scrutiny.

What a load of Bullshit! Any drug can be taken with alcohol with serious effects like Benzodiazepines for example which can be more dangerous with alcohol then when taken in large doses by themselves.
I've taken Alcohol with Tramadol! OMG maybe they'll pull that next.
Why not just pull Alcohol instead? LOL. I don't drink it anyway. It doesn't kill pain. It's a crappy substance imo. What would you rather Palladone or Alcohol? I know which I would choose. Hell I'd take
a tylenol over Alcohol any day. Alcohol sucks.
This is why drug companies should release a safe recreational market like in the BBC film "If Drugs Were Legal". Release something like Huxley's description of Soma.
I really do believe in better living through chemistry.
If pharmacists can find a safe chemical way of making humans not act extremely crappy to each
other then I'm all for it. Anyone ever seen that episode of Sliders where everyone is on Tranqual?
No violence, everyone is already on drugs therefore no crime, it's a crime not to be blissed out of your skull.
We just need something to stimulate the creation of our own brains natural happy chemicals while reducing the need for constantly producing and consuming a synthetic or natural compound. Say like through an electrical signal. There's already such a device I've heard of that I think can either kill pain or help with depression (I forget) but it costs alot of money. But that's because there's very little demand and competition for such a thing. Why sell an electrical device when you can sell addictive pills? Or pills that you depend on because if you don't take them they make you feel weird?
You'd think that politicians and law makers would be jumping at the chance for a more vegged out, more de-politisised society. I mean they have one now. But it's pretty pissweak compared to what they could have. Bush says "A Dictatorship would be a hell of alot easier" well it's pretty easy for him to obtain. It's just a shame he's lacks the motor skills and higher brain functions to make such a thing happen.
What would you rather? Going through life with a dead end job, a mortgage, screaming kids, a nagging wife and perhaps popping a few pills, smoking buds or whatever which you never seem to have enough of just for a few hours (sometimes less) of bliss. Or would you rather have all of the above with constant bliss, euphoria, etc. No nagging wife, no screaming kids and a dead end job that seems like a holiday even though it really is a dead end job. Sure we'd be enslaved by the chemicals in our own brains
but how's that any different to now?
The way I see it. Without revolution we're always going to be enslaved or ruled over by the few multi-national elites so we may aswell enjoy our small meaningless little lives. You'd think those higher up would've caught onto this concept by now. The happier we are, the more our wants and personal needs are attended to the more productive, passive and de-politisised we are going to be. Isn't that what they want from us?

This is lame. Drink enough alcohol in conjunction with large quantities of many drugs
and you could also assume room temperature. The FDA seems to have nothing
better to do than to pull useful drugs off the market, while at the same time doing
everything possible to make it difficult to put new ones on the market.
My thoughts are that any pharma company should be immune from lawsuits if
their products are used as indicated. Otherwise "FDA approval" is kind of meaningless.

The whole point to the FDA pulling this is that alcohol can effectively destroy the time release mechanism causing all of the drug to be released at once, not that it potentiates any effects. In people with lower tolerances than I and many other forum members this could prove fatal. It's like someone with no tolerance chewing an 80mg OC, that's how OD's happen...
