I used pods for 2 and a half years, and various opiates 8 years before that, and during 2 1/2 years of pod use. When my tea dosage reached over 2 cups grounds, money was becoming a problem. So i switched to eating the grounds, bout 1 and a half cups of grounds.
I found the effects lasted alot longer too, and easier to prepare. But even with that tolerance, i needed 700mg carisoprodol, GF juice and cyclizine to get a good buzz.
Anyhow with that background in mind, i decieded to go for a sub detox. Bad idea, but mainly negligence, and mis-informed doctor's fault.
I was in for a very rough and painful time, plus i did'nt have the option or resources, to switch from pods to a short acting opiate before going on subs. I bet if i could of had that, the withdrawl process would have been alot easier.
I live in Northern Ireland, in an area with extremely few opiate addicts, any only one treatment centre was available to me in my area. I could not go and use one in a different area, like ballymenna, where there is lots of H addicts, and better treatment care, opitions and methadone treament, because the national health serivce, only covers your for treatment in your area, otherwise you go private and get ripped off, and not much better service.
On the 2nd day before detox, I eat poppy grounds 1 and 1/2 cups per dose that day, 2 doses on that day.
Day before detox, i selpt very late that morning, got out of bed around 2pm,it was a sunday after all. As soon as i woke up, i was already past early withdrawls, i eat 400mgs of codeine, around 30 minutes later i was still not feeling any better.
Drank 2 ampoules of tramadol, 100 mg each. I figured if i IV'd them it would cure my WD's quickly, but did'nt like the idea of possible increased seizure risk, since i take effexor, also i get petit mal seizures anyhow.
Still did'nt feel any better 30 minutes later, so i drank another 200mg. Slowly started to pick up within the next hour, but no hope of feeling a buzz from the weak ass, last resort, emergency supply combo of opies, (my personal dooms day pack)
Monday morning 9pm went to start my 2 weeks at the treatment ward. I was getting really bored and very anxious about having to wait till WD's set in so i could get my sub.
Early withdrawl set in about 3.00pm that day. About rite on time, as it would have been 2 days since i last used pods, and its long lasting 24hr receptor hogging effect was gone, any of the opiates in my system from sunday would def not last near 24 hrs.
Dumb ass Doctor, gave me 2mg subutex at 3.15pm. After an hour or more, it gave me very minor relief. The rest of the day went poorly, lots of hot flushes, very strong anxitey, cold sweats and chills, very bad muscle cramping, the runs, worst RLS i ever experienced, and very high tempature.
Next day i was increased to 4mgs of sub, once a day, and dumb doctor deceides to keep me at 4 mgs for 3 days, once daily. I showed no improvement for the next 4 days, I bet my life if the dose was increased to 4mg twice a day, the difference in relief would have been remarkable.
Obviously the doc and addiction team, had no experience treating patients properly with bup, they had the attitude of "you should just appericate us giving you sub once a day" Never mind the fact they would only give me 5 days of sub treatment.
Thru out the whole week i never stabilized, due to not been given sufficent treatment, probaly need'n higher does, 2 times a day and a longer smoother detox, not just been made to suffer thru out the 5 days on sub and the very long post wd symptoms after that.
Could'nt sleep well there at the hosiptal, as the restless leg syndrome was brutal in bed, they simply refused to provide any sort of muscle relaxant, or nite time sedation to help with the rls, even tho i had no history of sedative use or abuse, benzo or non benzo drugs at all, only ever been perscribed them at most once every couple of years.
They give me crappy quinnine, which was useless.
All in all, the sub detox proved to be of little or no help to me, and i was soo disapointed as i had high hopes of it working for me, after hearing sucess stories of it, on these boards so much. But its probaly down to the crappy treatment i received.
Can anyone confirm or comment on this experience of mine? Would it of been the "norm" to receive sub 4mgs twice daily, for all these break thru symptoms?
As i hear of doses of 16mg and more for users on this board, although i do know of the 8mg agonist ceiling dosage.
Basically the doc said to me, 4mgs is the most they give anyone, once daily, but this is bullshit is it not?
Also, 5 days i think, was very short, i was'nt given any time to stabalize on sub, and day 1 was at 2mgs, and the next 3 days on 4mgs, and last day (5) was given 2mgs, and abruptly stopped then. What are your idea's about a 5 day detox, IMO it was too short?
Was free of opiates for bout 4 weeks after i finished sub. The post withdrawl was extremely tough during that time, it was so long lasting and severe i want back to pods after 4 weeks for releif. During that 4 weeks of no opiates, i used alot of soma and librium to help with some of the symptoms.
I reckon post withdrawl is almost as bad as immediate withdrawl, as post WD's last 6 months and are very nagging with persistant RLS, cramps, spraying fire from my ass all day, sleep deprivation, depression and much more.
I feel my only hope of helping my addiction is to go on sub maintanence, atleast if i was only getting 4mgs a day, i would eventually stabalize.
I would appericate any replies or answers to my questions. Thanks.
