You can expect the same. To give you an idea, I'd been clean for some time, took about 2mg's of bup, and then for the next two days was unable to feel anything, even after a fix that would've otherwise killed me...

It all depends on how long you have been on the bup, I am currently on 1 mg a day (1/2 in the morning, and 1/2 at night) I have been on bup for over a year and a 1/2. I can wake up in the morning before I take my suboxone and feel the effects from even codeine. It all depends. If you are on 4 mg a day or more, you probably arent going to feel anything.

One main thing to remember is opiates effect each one of us a little differently. From my experience, I have to be very careful with bupe. I'm still on it, back a few months ago I was on one 8mg in the morning, one 8 mg at evening(16 mg a day total). I got a bunch of 10/500 vics one day and waited 24 hours since my last sub dose. I was wd horrible by 24 hours, took just one vicodin to be safe since I had been clean for a few months. When I took the vicodin I suddenly started withdrawling worse for almost an hour. I took another vicodin and then suddenly within 20 mins I started feeling better. I took 3 more vicodins a half hour later, then suddenly it hit me all over again. I got the buzz like before. I guess what happened is the old bupe was still kind of lingering in the receptors, then when I put the vicodin in, it competed with the old bupe, sent me into wd for a bit, then the vicodin won and took over and I felt great again. Just be careful with bupe, its a tricky drug, I've gone into wd too many times, just a few times is too many for me. All because I did something a little off, like the time I ate minutes after dissolving my sub and went into horrible wd a half hour after supper.

To the last poster, while your statement is clearly corrct, it ignores a fundamental truth: The mechanics , or pharmocokineticks of a substance operate under set parameters. Now, we don't always realise or understand what these parameters are but as far as bupe and its "blocking" capabilities go...it is widely understood that bupe has a super - high affinity for the relevant receptors here...especially Mu. Ergo, when you dose with bupe, no other substance will overcome that affinity until bupe has totally metabolised. In fact, as far as opiates/opioids, bupe has the highest Mu affinity [thus far].

Do they actually give out Bupe in Canada yet? I know it's been approved but where are you supposed to get it? Do they give it out in the methadone clinics now? I hear the regulations on bupe here is the same as they use with methadone and they make you go into a clinic to take your doses and give you take homes after a long time so fuck whats the point of going on bupe if you can't have the freedom to take your medication home like you can in America. If what i read on the health canada website is true Bupe has no purpose in Canada. One of the reasons Bupe is such a godsend in America is that it could be taken outside of the clinic and brought home without as much regulation because it's not a schedule 2 drug and has less abuse potential. I could've sworn that i read about Bupe on the health canada website and that it said it was to be given out exactly like the methadone is prescribed. The whole clinic pain in the ass thing is what keeps alot of people from actually getting treatment. I was in a clinic a few years back when i first got really sick becaue no one would treat my pain and it was ridiculous for me to go in there. I didnt belong in there at all, i was the only one who wasn't using IV or abusing ridiculous amounts of the medication. I had clean piss tests for 4 months straight and i only had like 2 days of take home privileges. lol. Also i was clean of anything but methadone 3 months prior to the 4 months i was in the program. I hate being controlled. Anyways, sorry for deviating from the subject. I'd really like to try Bupe for pain because I hear it's a really good analgesic, even more potent than morphine. Methadone clinics and Bupe programs seem to be the only way for people with legitimate pain to get treated around here. I really feel for people with undiagnosed health problems and pain, their only options are pretending they are a junkie to get some relief.

Does anyone know about the way they prescribe Bupe in Canada?

Bupe is an agonist/antagonist ,so to get ovet it you have to use more gear to get the same effect ,but be carefull because once you get over the top of the bupe the full effect of the opiates kick in ,swim actually managed to o.d. on naltrexone ,sounds impossible ,but it can happen ,so be carefull!!

I've taken 8mg of buprenorphine and gotten high 8 1/2 hours later. But I had only taken it that one time, I wasn't maintaining on it. I basically woke up sick, took 8 mg of bupe and then got high that afternoon as usual. I couldn't tell were the bupe did anything but make me not sick that morning. On a different day I took 4 mg rectally and 14 hours later heroin had a very dull affect, like I had done a lousy bundle bag instead of 1/2 a gram of good powder. On another occasion I took 4 mg sublingually then did heroin later that day and it seemed to potentiate the heroin. So I have no idea what to think of the stuff. One other thing I found strange. When I took bupe it supressed all the withdrawal symptoms but it didn't seem to quite fix my stomach. It was as if the rest of me had managed to avoid the WD but my stomach hadn't, which is what eventualy drove me to get high each time after taking it.

yeah, I used naltrexone daily for months, about 50 milligrams, I ended up relapsing, didnt take my morning dose and went out to get dope. I had to do nearly a quarter gram to get off, but I did. I felt that dope and nobody can tell me different, it had been months since I had that feeling. this was a stupid think to do, but just the same, it worked. it worked also for a freind of mine, but he died laying in a corner with his buddys 10 feet away.

I am on suboxone at the moment, and when i smoke salvia divinorum, which contains the kappa agonist salvinorin a I experience obvious effect from the salvinorin a, it is a little different than when I am not on bup, but still there it is, the rise and fall of effects from salvia divinorum. I wonder how that works? is it possible for both drugs to occupy receptor sites at the same time? I notice that the effects are generally more euphoric as well. for me salvinorin a seems to cause biphasic effects, at first the drug hits hard and creates some intense ,sometimesw painful tactile type effects...then in minute these give way to analgesia, euphoria, cevs, and sometimes even oevs, usually my legs feel great, almost like I cant feel them at all. then I usually fall asleep without realizing it. I am usually taking between 4-6 milligrams of bup daily.

so while these drugs seem to bind very efficiently it seems that some people may feel effects anyway...far be it from science to explain everything. I have never taken an opiate on the same day that I have dosed with bup, I misunderstood that I would go into withdrawl if I did. I geuss not. I have taken bup for a few weeks at a time, then switched over to another opiate/opioid. I felt codeine the next day, poppy seeds, tramadol. seemed like a smooth transition to me.

I also experience slight withdrawl it seems if I do not take the bup on a regular basis, I can skip a day, but I do not feel good, and the nausea and dizziness sets in within 12 hours of a missed dose. I usually dose three times a day.

thanks for the responses for far, i'm sure there more of you with similar experiences.
it seems i'll have to try it to know for my self but i'm starting to think its partial agonist qualities seem to make one able to get past the bupe. althought the scientific backing seems contraditory....i've seen quotes saying it has "greater affinty" for certain receptors than anything else however the last respose (and others) suggest a larger dose will produse effect on top of a small-moderate dose of bupe-while common knowledge (about methadone) where i'm from suggest no amout will do anythng on top of methadone (sure ms can give me a warm rush or pins'needls at certain doses but anything larger gives a whoppin headache and either way their is no sustained effect-except pounding blood preasure and waiting for the damw headach to go away) maybe someone could start a poll (methadone vs. bupe maintenace) so all you americans with experience with both can share the pro's and con's of each with us canucks before we decide to give it a try!!

re: bupe in canada is supposed to be available by the end of this year to dr.'s who go through a training session about its use and yes the first docs to do this will likely work at methadone clinics (fortunatly for me if i decide to try it - i don't live too far from my local clinc and am allready a clinent-picking up 2 times a week at a pharmacy-although i'll let you know if taking the bupe puts me back to daily pickups at the clinic and for how long...)
...but as you (ont.op.) probably know according to your own experience not all canadian dr's with "methadode licenses" work in addiction clincs - your second best bet is "pain clinic"'s where the docs specialize in chronic pain or hospitals which have "chemical withdrawl units" they should have doc who can perscribe methadone (and in the future bupe...) I'll make a new thread with all the (accurate) info when mydoc (and clinic) are actually perscribing the stuff!!

Yah I don't live close to a clinic and I don't need to go into one unless i want Bupe when it comes out but I doubt I will. I'm just waiting for the Diamorphine. I'm slowly waiting for that trial to finish. I really wanted to get into that heroin trial for pain management. But I don't live in the cities they are doing it in. They never do anything in Ottawa and it's the capital of Canada. If i had been in that trial I would have been good for it because I'd be totally clean of other drugs and i would be a model user so it would boost the good effects of the trial. I'm really hoping we will be able to get heroin in a clinic or from a doctor for pain. Either way i'll go in and do the program wherever it is to see if it's superior to methadone. Have you heard anything about the heroin trials? I've tried looking all over for info on who is giving out the heroin. I checked health canada but nothing. I believe that heroin should be provided to addicts and for pain. I think it would be of great use for people who are really sick. You can only get heroin if you are like in the end stages of terminal cancer, i've looked into it. And even then you have to find a hospital who will provide it. So any info on the heroin trials would be greatly appreciated.

Oldschool can be the Bupe guinea pig when it comes out and test it out for us Canucks haha. I'll be interested to see whether it gives a decent buzz or not.

Oldschool-

I was on bupe for like 5 months, about 24 hours after my last bupe dose I used 20mg of methadone. I got a kind of mild weird high, but it was pretty weak. I didn't take any bupe the next few days and I noticed that when I took the same amount of methadone after having a few more days between me and my last bupe dose it got me much higher. I'd wait at least 3 days off the bupe before doing anything else as not to waste it.

oops - i just replied to another post on the same topic. But anyway, when I am taking 1-2 mg per day - I have found that it takes 36 hours in order to break through.

I read stories of people breaking through 8mgs in 12 hours, but this in no way worked for me

when i just started bupe (maybe 2 months at most) i tried to used again, i knew about the blocking effect so i waited for about 48 hours and IVd some alright bags and felt a slight slight high. nothing like i thought it would be. tried a few other times and didnt get anything fantastic so i deided to give up until i got off sub. down to .5mgs a day/every other day and i cant wait to be clean so i can start chipping again

I can go about 8-10 without a methadone pill, then I start feeling bad. I'm not sure if this is psychosamatic or not, with me, who knows . . . .:o

I fell off the wagon a few months ago while on 3 subs a day 8mg each, I had the strangest experience, I stopped my suboxone for 24 hours, started getting too uncomfortable right about 23 hours give or take a little. I took one 10/500 watson 540(hydrocodone)in 23 hours, all of a sudden in 14 mins I was in horrible wd. It hit me all of a sudden and was scary it was so bad. I tried to remain as calm as possible and rode it out for about an hour, suddenly it started going away so I took 3 more vicodin and then all of a sudden in 15 mins I felt almost as good as I did back when I first started using vicodin. What caused that to happen other than I probably waited not quite long enough to switch over? anyone got any tips to make the switchover more comfortable if I do this again? I will wait longer next time if I do this again but just curious if anyone has any tips for making it easier?
