Has anyone performed this conversion? I am considering it, as I can get all the chemicals. I also have a friend who has taken two years of o-chem at berkeley.

I highly doubt you'd be able to find any acetic anhydride for the final (morphine to H) step of the conversion.

Yes, and it WORKS
That's what everyone does is in this country due to no heroin at all... they make their own.
After getting a heroin habit overseas, I was pretty sceptical- but then I tried it. It's strong. Supposedly makes the morphine 16x stronger. I'm sure that the chemical needed must be available on the internet?? Here, because it's so essential, no one buys a pill without it. They're often sold together.

I've done various versions of this, morphine to h from both commercial morphine and poppy-purified morphine (for a research project my lab was looking into). If you have the reagents and a lab or access to decent equipment it isn't hard at all. I didn't look at this reaction closely, so can't comment on its effectiveness or success rate, but the chemistry is fairly easy if you have a clue about what you're doing.


I wouldn't take any off the net prep and do it until I had thoroughly gone through the reactions and done a little research into them. I have read that there are several recipes out there that intentionally omit a few steps. i really don't know why or which ones this is supposed to be, but I have read that more than once from fairly reliable sources.

Wrt the reagents, I wouldn't do any of the reaction without reagent-grade chemicals- personally I just couldn't use hardware store obtained substitutes, but that's just me. I'm not sure what I'd do if i didn't have the access that I do. Acetic anhydride isn't really all that difficult to find in a well-stocked lab. It's not even that hard to order if you have the capability to order for a legitimate company. I can't speak to illicit ordering methods or the smaller chemistry companies, never had to do that & only deal with the major lab supply places, but I can tell you it's not a big deal to order the anhydride, it's not like ordering pharmaceutical where you have to provide licenses and all that.

I don't really have much background in this sort of thing but, is it possible to just take morphine pills, filter out the binders then proceed to adding the acetic anhydride?
