DV camera in hand, filmmaker Michel Negroponte takes us on an eye-opening tour of the borderland of recovering heroin addicts on methadone maintenance—a place where the seasons run together into one long rainy spell between an oblivious past and a receding future. There’s Millie, who after 28 years of drug use now counsels recovering addicts; George, an ex-rocker dreaming of making a fresh start; Susie and Eddie, trying to take control of their lives before their new baby arrives; and Steve, a charming, formerly homeless man out to prove that rehab is possible. Honestly, it wasn't all that great. While the first 15 minutes were really informative and interesting, the other 60 minutes just kept on covering the same stuff. My concern was that the film was going to demonize Methadone, and although it does in many ways, it's not as bad as they'd like to make it look.

On the other hand, I've never seen anyone nod like Steve did. So coeherent and then completely fuckered up, eyes rolled back in head, etc. Amazing the watch the transformation.

IMHO, it would've been better if the director would've covered a different group of Methadone users, or maybe even several groups.

I'd definitely watch it again, just to catch some parts I missed along the way, but films like 'Union Square' and 'Black Tar Heroin' were much, much better.

I thought the film was pretty boring as well, very repetative. I also noticed they focused very little on success. I watched it with my parents and one came away with an even worse understanding in my opinion.

Not bad, showed what its like to function on high dose clinics while taking high doses of benzos. Also it focused to much on the lower end of the totem pole of society. It would be nice to see a film that didnt project maintence opiate users in a negative light with psycholgical issues and homeless-ness.
