So how long does it usually take for methadone to kick in for you guys?....swim only takes 10mgs at a time and has noticed when i first take it that it takes a good hour and a half to 2hrs to fully kick in... why is this? does it take that long for it to kick in for others?:confused:

this may sound weird to you & some of the other Philes on here, but I have a lot of exp. w/methadone and since I've been taking it w/out going to a clinic I've found this to be my favorite way to take them. I always take my dones, then I eat about 20 - 30 mins later, that is the way I've found for them to hit me the best. I've taken them & not eaten & it seems like they never hit me. W/hydro's & oxy's I always take them and eat right on top of em, but dones I always wait a little bit, and they hit me a lot better. You know how it is, everyone's different, and dif. drugs do dif. people dif....Anyway, I just thought I'd share my 2 cents w/you. Try this, if it's not right for you, then I guess get more advice from everyone here and find what works for you....Be careful and good luck....

Methadone takes a good 30 minutes to start having an affect and it is best to take it with food or eat before you take the Methadone.

Jah, you were right in your other post about the long half-life of Methadone. I think for those who use Methadone daily, taking other opiates is not going to have the desired effect your looking for, if it is some type of euphoria. While it may help to relieve pain, Methadone has a higher affinity to the receptor sites than opiates such as hydros.

When your taking Methadone, it is best not to take any other opiates with it. Mixing drugs that cause respiratory depression, such as with Methadone and other opiates, or Methadone with benzos is just not a good idea. It has been mentioned before, but a reminder is always good!

I don't recommend playing around with Methadone if your looking for a high. Because of it's long half-life withdrawals can be really bad and last longer than those of other opiates.

2 hours, exactly. Sometimes I can feel it coming on sooner, but the full effect is 2 hours.

30 mins to 2 hours from first effect to full effect. But Im on maintenance at 165 mgs a day and have been for years. Never taken recreationally though. Ive been on Mallinkrodt wafers (40 mg white) and am currently taking the mallinkrodt cherry syrup (10 mg to the ml)

Wow,it's normally 1 in 1 done here.


and as TB says 30 minutes to 2 hours.For me it depends on stomach contents and activity.A brisk walk speeds up the effect.

But man,you really don't want to find out too much about 'done.

For me it takes at least an hour and a half to kick in. The first time I did methadone I didn't realize this and took more every half hour that went by with no effects. By the time I realized I took to much I was in the ER.

Man Ive gone to the clinic when I was all nauseated with stomach flu..drank my dose and made it home and went to bed..then uncontrollably puked and I could taste my dose coming up...shit feeling to be sick like that then know you just puked up your days dose on top of it all..I shoulda sucked that shit out of the carpet!

No, you can feel the comeup start fast...But for it to be 100 % kicked in is up to 4 hours..Thats to get full bio avail..That dont mean you wont feel it at all for 2 to 4 hrs..
Plus if you are on maintenance you get a build up in your system so I think it degrades the initial come on feeling a bit as it never really wears off

I have heard some ppl say they can take 3 or 4 tens & feel real high & have fun with it. I only tried it onc e at 15mg total & was not impressed. be careful with the done though I don't know much about it but am scared to death of it b/c of it's half life & fearful that even when you don't feel the "effects" anymore it could still be in your system & that scares me too so be careful as we all know you are a "drug mixer" be safe man!

I'm at the clinic everyday and at 180mgs, I notice the same thing it takes about an hour to start feeling some little uplift(and some pain relief from my off and on intestinal pain). But I think for the most part, by 2 hours after dosing you are fully opiated with methadone.

By the way I'm on the Mallies(the round 40mg disks)dissolved in water of course. Does anyone here think or notice different brands of methadone act better or worse than other brands? are the Mallies good? I hear alot about people on here saying Mallies suck when it comes to hydro, but that's a different opiate.

When I first joined the program, I loved the buzz I got from done, sadly it started fading away after a month of being on it.

Any euphoria derived from methadone is short lived. Methadone - very strong, lasts ages but is low in euphoria.

There is tuns of euphoria!!!!! Esp with xanax. But if you take it for about 2 weeks staight it lowers and then you need to up the dose

I used to use methadone a lot and for me it always took about 4 hours to feel full effects, I used to forget that I took anything cause I wouldnt feel messed up so I would go out and do whatever, then at around the 4 hour mark I would get so high that I couldnt focus my eyes when driving. sure do miss those days:(

Just try to kick this shit , but it seems it will be lasting infinity. It canot be done by one big jump(like in the case of H, for example,... and please forgive me my poor english). The methadone 'causes longdistance "buzz"(oh I wish I would call it BUZZ, but I canot; maybe in first few week/months of using, or on the third day of wd, but that's rather relief) and longlasting wd. It could be kicking only by "separate" the wd process in little parts; just reduce.

My daily dose is funny low related to the others, but it's difficult anyway, although I just taper, not cold turkey.
But I couldn't stand this methadone "emotional flatline" anymore. So I'm on mild wd for my own wish.

^ my dad just went to rehab for methadone that was prescribed to him for pain. He said that the first night they gave him a barbituate to sleep then once it was 48 hours after his last dose they gave him suboxone 4mg twice a day for 4 days then just stopped. he said it really wasnt that bad, they also gave him serequel to help sleep. so if you are trying to kick meth I would suggest an impatient detox

I suppose that Your dad has had prescribed an average dose, just as painkiller, from the beginning of His methadone-using. And as far I can remember its about 10-15 mgs highest for 'average" patients. (not junkies)
It must be like that, if He has taken it for pain, not as substitute or for getting high.
My currently dose is pretty low, but I'm on the 'done the eighth year, without any break. before using H and like this. And my dose was not only so low. At this level I currently am is the sleeplessness in fact the worst symptome, but I have some benzos.
At last I just taper...
To the impatient, you said?...maybe where time to kick the last 5mgs???

Is it viable to go from methadone to subs for an easier time?

You'd have to be off the methadone long enough for it to clear your system so as to not precipitate WD's. I would imagine you'd be pretty damn ill by then. Of course others may have a dif. experience.

Years ago ( before Subs were RX'd for maintenence and were still given at the clinic only for a max of 3 days for detox) I was given Bupe injections when I was inpatient for my methadone detox

I got an injection every 4 hours round the clock at the time I was down to to 20mgs a day of done before I jumped off..had to wait 4 days before I could recieve the Bupe... and it did not help the WD''s very much. After 4 days I signed mysef out and scored. I then used H for a few weeks then returned to the outpatient clinic for a 3 day bupe detox.

Going from done back to a full agonist wouldn't precipitate WD right? You just wouldn't feel shit and would need a lot of it for a while. _Of course I am speaking form anecdotal knowledge as I have no first hand experience with this type of thing_

How long would it take subbing dope for the done, just a week or so to get to where you could break through the done again? Or longer?


And are subs really better than done for kicking?

And many done it, not for their own wish at last (it was just cheap talking like we junkies often do:D ),if they removed them from the MMT. Some was landing on the street again, back to junk, but if you are on pretty high doses of the 'done you need REALLY BIG DOSE OF JUNK to get some effect. Any effect, not the same. I don't know, how long could it be lasting, till the full agonists starts to work on you sufficient enough. People said me, they was totally getting out of money, when removed from MMT, oh, and they felt like they need one shot for - as I can remember - every FEW hours. Just short-or middle(?)lasting vs extremaly longlasting - so it must looks like that probably.

At my clinic they bring you down to 20mg of Done...then have you skip your dose for one day and then start you on the Subs.....It seems to work perfectly fine for most people...(Though Subs are very unpredictable)....When i was on subs i could take em whenever i wanted and they never threw me into withdrawl...a freind of mine was the same ..we can party and then a few hours later take a sub and be fine...

Nikita, I personally don't know anything about methadone, but just recently at another forum I belong to there was a story posted by a woman who got off methadone, briefly used subs, but was suffering from severe depression (PAWS, post addiction withdrawal syndrome) so she decided to try kratom because she was about to start back on heroin she was so tired of being fucked up with PAWS.

It's something worth looking into and deciding if it might work for you - the site is www.kratomforum.com (http://www.kratomforum.com) (it is a private forum, so you cannot lurk, but you can join for free). The woman's screen name started out "Struggling_Daily" and after a week or so she changed it to "HpplyEvrAftr" (Happily Ever After, since she was so thrilled that the kratom cured her depression). Also, there is kratom information on Opiophile - it has it's own forum section. Many of the kratom vendor I use mail shipments to Europe and a number of forum members are from Sweden and elsewhere.... I assume kratom is legal in Poland, too.

When I used methadone regularly, i was stupid and snorted it (haha i might as well have snorted pepper) but through that ROA it seemed to take 20-30 mins. to get that nice glowing buzz...but when i used to chew them i swear sometimes id get so pissed cuz it'd take up to 2 hours to get to that same point...
