Thort this be a good place to post all the opoid containing plants we know so we can work together in finding an alternative for when we need it jacky im sure you got loads to add.
ALKALOIDS FROM Papaver setigerum DC.
Jiri SLAVIK and Leonora SLAVIKOVA
Biochemical Institute of Medical Faculty, Masaryk University, 662 43 Brno, Czech Republic
Two new benzylisoquinoline alkaloids of the papaverine type, setigerine (racemic a-methoxypapaverine, 1b) and setigeridine (1c), were isolated from Papaver setigerum DC. as the minor constituents. Their structures were established by spectral data and X-ray crystallographic analysis. Papaverine (1a) was isolated as the major alkaloid of the plant (0.05 wt.%) besides of less amounts of morphine, codeine and rhoeadine. In a low yield, protopine, cryptopine, thebaine, rhoeagenine, and N-methylthebainium (as iodide) were obtained and small quantities of laudanosine, stylopine, isoboldine, scoulerine, papaverrubine A, B, C, D and E, coptisine, corytuberine, and magnoflorine were identified by thin layer chromatography
Dicentra cucullaria
Dutchman''s-breeches (Dicentra cucullaria) is a native herb found in the rich woodlands of eastern Canada. The plant has been shown to cause poisoning when fed to cattle under experimental conditions. The underground tubers caused more severe symptoms. When plant tubers were fed at 2 kg/100 kg of animal weight, various symptoms occurred, including trembling and convulsions (Black et al. 1923). Poisoning may occur during the spring, when the ground is soft and the tubers might be dug up.
Notes on Toxic plant chemicals:
Several isoquinoline alkaloids have been found in Dicentra species, including aporphine and protopine. The degree of toxicity of the various alkaloids is not known (Black et al. 1923). Protopine is also found in the opium poppy (Papaver somniferum).
Notes on poisoning:
Experimental feeding of cattle caused the animals to become nervous, run back and forth, violently eject stomach contents, tremble, convulse, and fall down with the legs extended and rigid. The cattle were able to rise again and recover after a while (Black et al. 1923).
bad for cattle but ok for us? aporphine is found in the expensive blue lilly and is quite good

"Aporphine alkaloids
The simplest derivatives of the THBIQ alkaloids are the aporphine alkaloids. At least 650 are known and they occur widely in the families that have BIQ alkaloids.
Aporphine alkaloids arise by o, p-couplings involving free radicals. Rotation about the single bond to which the benzyl group is attached before cyclization gives rise to two series of aporphine alkaloids, represented by bulbocapnine and by glaucine. The methylation pattern is of great importance in aporphine alkaloid biosynthesis.
Most aporphine alkaloids are toxic. They exhibit antagonistic effects to dopamine. Because they interact at dopamine receptors, many have anticonvulsant activity. Glaucine induces narcosis and convulsions in animals. Isoboldine inhibits aldol reductase. Taspine is known for wound healing properties"
Dactylicapnos scandens
The root of Dactylicapnos scandens (D. Don) Hutchins, Fumariaceae, has been used as an anodyne in China. Protopine was isolated from the root. The analgesic and antispastic effects of protopine are reported in this paper.the oral LD50 of protopine was 186±33 mg/kg in mice. Assayed with the stretching method, the median analgesic dose (ED50 )in mice was 27±5 mg/kg,. The electric stimulation experiment showed that the effect of protopine was weaker that of morphine. Protopine could inhibit the contraction of duodenum of rabbits at the concentration of 1×10-5 g/ml. It could the antagonize the spasm of isolated ileum of rats induced by acetygholine or BaCl2.
Eschscholzia aurantiaca - Papaveraceae - California poppy
The true, famous California poppy is a short lived perennial that readily reseeds itself. Distinctly beautiful with basal clusters of silvery or blue-green ferny foliage and dainty tulip-shaped yellow or orange flowers. Serves as a nervine, anodyne and hypnotic. Opiate-like alkaloids protopine and altocryptine are found in the dried flower petals making this choice material for smoking blends.
