All right, this is basically a thread where members can make suggestions to the mods, what you feel should be deleted, merged, closed, how you think we could better handle things etc. Give us some feedback here, most of us arn't really sure what it is we're doing so this will help clarify what YOU, the members think we should be doing as well as how we're doing. This isn't a place to bash mods or any one for that matter, just constructive feed back as well as a sort of way post things such as this thread or that thread was closed please reopen etc etc.

Bash mods?????
Who would do that?
Super that only thing I can say to you is..................how the hell are you a 20yr old farmer? :p
Everything looks good to me, I'm not here to much anymore..........er, yeah so,........ but I don't see or read anything that makes me think the mods aren't on the ball.
Any issues I can think of aren't mod related. Like a 5 gig storage file.....
Give yourself a pat on the back from me.

the only thing i can think of is on the vendor forum for pods in case somebody puts it in the wrong spot where everybody can see it instead of the chosen few

I believe the mods here do an excellent job. They're intelligent, thoughtful and creative, keep the peace, keep things cool and appropriate, and are still amoung us as friends.

I think the mods primary goals should be keeping order around here by doing stuff like greeting new members and getting them used to how things run around here, moving threads into their appropriate forums, watching for solicitation, deleting threads that never get replied to or begin to start problems (and even then I think that there should be a thread started in the mods only forum asking for the consensus and opinion of all mods on the subject, not solely one person's veiw), and just basic stuff like that. Rarely should a mods activities go so far as banning, and I think that that should be voted on by the mods like all major decisions. You guy's have a mods only forum, I think it should be used more often so that actions that are taken are democratically came up with. I don't personally have a problem with any mod (in fact some of my best freinds are mods) but I do see the potential for it to go to some people's heads and I think that if things were discussed in the mod forum before acted upon that it would help to keep that risk to a minimum.

I agree and I always try to get input on these things from the other mods, though somedays theres only one mod around. I agree w/ the voting on bans and sometimes thread deletion/merging. I also think it might be a good idea to get some sort of standardized process for adressing certain issues esp solicitation. The behind the scenes thread has been used more often latley. I think looking for mothers opinions is good, but it's damn near impossible to get every mods opinion on any issue, some are MIA, some don't come around that often.

Right on, there is always learning by watching the actions of people that were mods before you too... learning by example like. But regardless of the number of available mods I think that communication between them is vital in keeping it as democratic as possible. I also think that maybe a short "mod training" type deal might not be such a bad idea. Like the first couple of weeks or so into becomming a mod someone could have a mod assigned to them to show them the ropes and maybe any action potential newbie-mod considers taking could be discussed in the mods only forum before said action is acted upon. That way instead of a bunch of renegade mods working on their own level we have a well oiled machine were all mods know their duties and are all pretty much in agreement with whatever action is taken by any mod.

That's what I'm sayin man. You know, I'm involved in many farmers markets, w/ out going into to much detail I have seen what happens when a farmers market is ran by one person instead of all the vendors or even a few members, everything works much better when every one has a say and we vote on damn near everything so every one has constant input.
So any one have any more input? Points to you chem, I appreciate every ones vote of confidence but I'm really looking for some input. What don't you like? What do you like? I'm waiting for some input in the mod forum right now, after I see what every one thinks maybe I'll start a poll about it, and polls to define some of the key terms.
-EDIT-the only thing i can think of is on the vendor forum for pods in case somebody puts it in the wrong spot where everybody can see it instead of the chosen few
If any one sees this or anything else that should be looked at by one of the mods use the post reporting feature. It send all the mods an email and stick out really well even if we just hit new posts. I'm not going to be here as much because I'm working on another farm for some extra dough pretty much full time. No one has time to go through all the posts (this is something else we might ought to discuss, break it up so this or that mod reads every new post in a certain forum) and not every mod is here all the time. The thread that is problematic may not interest me or any of the other mods, or maybe we just won't be around for it, so we wouldn't even know that some one made a post selling 8mg Dillys for $3 a piece or that sister rags snapped and started a huge flame war (just an example hun, love ya and don't think it's ever happen, and if it did you would be forgiven...).
Alow: My parents started the farm when I was 7 or 8, maybe a little younger, regardless we've always had a big garden, and I've worked on this farm since it began. I really would love to give more details about this and the farmers markets etc. but it could identify me. I take real pride in this business I have helped build. I couldn't imagine doing anything else, just like a take my drug use seriously and learn everything I can about it, I also do this w/ farming. I am always attending meeting sponsored by the various university and cooperative extensions, master gardeners, industry meeting etc and I would like to go to college for horticulture and botany, maybe some chemistry, entomology etc. classes. When ever I attend these meetings I'm always the youngest person there. The farmers that really excel are regulars at these meeting, they have some really neat things, they'll actually bring in tomato plants, grafting clips etc and go over the science, how some different people have used this successfully in a business setting, give us a DVD outlining the process, go through the rhyme and reason, then the real science to it, complete w/ trials and studies. I'm ramblin, this thread isn't about me, you got me off on a tangent. Any one have a problem w/ this type of thing?
Peace.

It pretty much goes like this now, I think for the most-part. I know the mods were probably sick of me at first because I was asking what do with everything before I acted on it, just wanted to see how everyone else handled stuff and what their opinion was. I still ask what everyone thinks unless it is something blatantly breaking the rules like solicitation.

i LOVE OT rambling! it often makes for interesting conversation. i know that some are against it, for whatever reason. maybe cuzza the times it doesn't lead to anything interesting, like when it's just a total thread-jack or someone trying to be an attention-whore. then again, i have the ability to skim over/ignore any posts like that most days without much trouble. but there have been times when i wished i could bitch-slap someone through my monitor for just such things....
hmmm... you mods DO have a tough job! i can't make decisions. it's a good thing that you guys are the ones to do that!

I grow up on a dairy farm, so I can relate, but we only grew corn (i've eaten corn everyway it's possible to make it), about 400 acres of corn.
And I just can't picture myself at age 20 doing that.
I just thought you were older that's all.......:D
Hell man go out and get laid, you work to hard for a 20 yr old.
Insofaras the thread topic, I agree w/ chem, as it seems I do most times, he's a smart motherfucker when he's not drinking:p .
Now you've gotten it out of me; I think there's to much coddling, pampering, spoiling, indulging of members. Fucking whiners.
And nothing to do w/ anything from my past here, but when a couple peeps get to busting each others balls, in steps someone yelling "stop the violence and ill behavior" and not just mods. Fuck people its a hard world out there. Keep your passive aggressive pacifisism out of my head.
In my day if two kids were gonna fight, the teachers would let 'em go at it for a couple min. get it out of there systems, now they won't even show Tom and Jerry cartoons in school becasue of the violence.
I guess what I'm saying, and I know others feel that way to; is it's harder and harder to say what I feel or want to say for fear of hurting someones feelings or making someone upset by what was posted.
I find I'm censoring myself which takes all the fun and love out of being here, and hence less time is spent here. For the peeps that were around back when - we've kinda lost something here. And I know you can feel it. The charm is gone I guess.
Ah don't listen to me I'm just really really sober right now.

I don't like coming here as much as I used to, you know those weird experiences where your trying to patch something up w/ an old really good freind - you don't really want to have to deal w/ it - it's very awkward and it's really sad thinking about how it was - I guess I'm sayin I agree w/ what you said.

I'm a moderator too. No not on this forum (I wouldn't want to be--I enjoy using the forum far too much) but on two other forums, one of them extremely busy.
My advice to any moderator, on any forum, is this: if you are ever thinking "Should I take action, or should I just do nothing?" 9 times out of 10 the best answer is "Don't do anything." I know Greenfox was just trying to improve the forum, but that's the problem, everbody's conception of what improves the forum is different.
Let the rank & file members decide what's important and what isn't important. They can PM a moderator if they think something needs to be done. If you, as a moderator, receive tons of PM's begging you to do something like close a thread, then maybe it's time to take action --but never go looking for problems where nobody is complaining. Nobody wants that.

Whats the point of putting Alowishus on your ignore list if you take him off every time you see one of his posts? Then you do what you accuse him of doing? Cut the crap, OK?

The best way to notify a mod of something that needs to be dealt w/ is by using the post reporting feature, it's the icon on the furthest right next to the reputation icon. It send all the mods an email and makes a thread to discuss the issue in the mod only area.
I don't like looking for problems but sometimes I have to do that, esp if I suspect solicitation. I think I'm gonna move this into the other thread.;)

This is what makes it hard to decide what to do sometimes. People complain about the flaming and so called useless or immature posts and they report them via the icon SJ is talking about. Then the mods are left in the postion of what to do about it. If you ignore the post and let whatever go, then someone gets mad because they are getting flamed or whatever, if you do something about it the other person says something like it's to PC here. There has to be some type of line. The rules about not being an asshole applies here IMO.

Of course you guys do a fine job-the site is up an running and we're not in jail(the later is quite an achievment these days)/.
However I do think there should be a mod uniform that you guys have to wear to do your modly duties.
Maybe an SS uniform in mauve.
