Cut off Ritalin/Methylphenidate

Today I had an appointment with my psychiatrist. I was expecting the usual.. talk for awhile, then get some meds refilled (klonopin and methylin ER). Instead, he says I should try some different anti-depressant instead of the methylphenidate. I've been on methylphenidate for over 6 months.. and I'm just cut off?? Its one of the only damn drugs that actually work and make me feel somewhat happy. Fucking doctors won't ever prescribe me anything that works.. and when I finally got the chance to be on something I liked, I get it taken away. First of all I can hardly stay awake for more than 6 hours, I can't get up during the day, I have no motivation, depressed, anxious, suicidal, ect. I've been panicking about this and feel like complete shit. I'm also really pissed off that my doctor would do this shit to me.

I don't know what to do. I need something similar to ritalin or adderall.. I'm not lucky enough to have any connections. I can't think of anything OTC that can work like ritalin. What the fuck should I do?

That fucking blows. I'm going to the doc to get my adderall script for my refill on Wednesday. I'm going to try to get my mg's bumped up on my XR's. Hopefully he doesn't take me off of them too. I feel for ya. That's a scary thought. I dropped 20lbs since October, and around 5lbs since my last visit, so I'm worried that he'll take me off of them because of my dramatic weight loss. I have maintained muscle mass, and its mainly my body fat percentage thats dropped from 20% to around 14% the last time I checked. Since he's just my primary care physician I don't have to do much talking. Good luck bro, sounds like it may be time for another doctor. Hopefully my visit goes smoothly. I loves me adderall.

Have you tried Provigil\Modafinil? I would seriously consider talking to your doctor about it. It will help with your sleep, and energy levels...

Perhaps once you get less sleep, you'll feel not as depressed? I know when I sleep most of the day and wakeup at an odd hour I feel like crap...It kind of just puts you in that nothing in life cycle, but worse..

Also, have you had a physical lately? Sleeping that much can be a sign of health problems.

Today, for the 3rd time in a row the insurance denied paying for my adderall script. They make my doctor fill out extra paperwork stating why he is prescribing me the medication. So now I have to wait several days for the paperwork to get written up by the doc, then have the paperwork make its way through the process at the insurance company.

I guess I shouldn't be bitching considering I have a doc that upped my dosage and I at least have health insurance, but the whole process that should only have to be done once if at all has to be done every single time and then the waiting game begins. I guess if I run out I can seek out some of the bomb white phosphorus meth thats going around and take small doses.

I still think, in your case, I'd find another doc Psychotikk. For me my damn insurance blows for Schedule II's. I wonder if they've caught on to the fact that the only scripts I seem to ever get are Scheduled.;)

Yeah man I've tried it and abunch of other stuff.. it doesn't help.

About the sleep problems.. an ear nose and throat doctor told me I needed my tonsils removed and needed or have a deviated septum, whatever that is. I don't know how I can go through those surgeries when I'm on 16mg of suboxone daily. It really blows though.. I get up at about 8 or 9 P.M. every night... I have no life basically. It's like I'm an addict again going through withdrawals except I'm not using! :(:(

I'm trying to get some ritalin from another source.. I know it may be considered a weak stimulant, but for my condition it really helps. I'm sure meth/adderall/dexedrine would work better, but I can't get my hands on any of that stuff. Unless I'm going to try to score some crank on the street.

I'd be lucky to even have a meth connection. I live in fuckin arizona this shit should be everywhere. That's bullshit about your insurance company.. I've had similar problems. Right now I'm on Access, but I haven't used it yet. I got cut off my other insurance company because I wasn't going to school full time. I was a lot happier when I was using heroin, pods, ect.

You should start to feel better soon as your body gets used to less stimulants (it may take a few weeks). Looks like you have to go with it until you can find another doctor. Just stay away from the methamphetamine!

Just tell your doctor what you are telling us; that the medication is working very well for you, there are no side effects, and that you don't feel changing meds is necessary or appropriate at all.

And I definitely think that street speed like crystal meth is not a good option.

That makes me wonder what my insurance company thinks about my scripts. I honestly cannot remember the last time I had something filled that wasn't scheduled.

Insurance is a blessing and a curse though; I get high for $15 a month BUT I gotta take the drugs they want me to (no time release oxy) so it's morphine and IR oxy for me. Not that I'm complaining. Actually I'll drink to it.

Of course I enjoy opiates much more, but since I'm on suboxone and was addicted to morphine, heroin, ect.. I don't know how I could get high on any opioid. I've been on the stuff for over a year, and currently I am dosing at 8mg - 16mg of subs daily. I probably take about 10-12mg on average daily. I've tried waiting a week and using a mix of pod tea, poppy seed tea, and a tiny bit of liquid methadone (about 5mg) and felt nothing. I've had 7 5mg hydros.. nothing. You think if I stopped taking the subs for three days, then took one or two OC 80s I would get high? Shit, I know it's impossible to know for sure, but SOMEBODY out there must know!! :P

By the way.. I finally got put back on the methylphenidate ER.. It definately helps, but for some reason I'm not enjoying it nearly as enough as I did before. Wonder why?

No it was the same pill. The pharmacy gives me Methylin ER by Mallinckrodt. I am switching this shit because it's horrible. It used to work good, but it just gets worse and worse. First of all, each pill is supposed to last 8 hours. For me, I feel the effects for the first two-three hours and for the next four hours I feel like shit. It feels like I'm crashing for four hours. I feel depressed, unmotivated, antisocial, anxious, paranoid, ect. After the drug has completely worn off, I am unable to fall asleep for another 3-6 hours! It's complete bullshit. Adderall XR never did that to me.. I'm going to have a talk with my doctor.. I'm aiming for a titrated dose of dexedrine IR and a sleeping pill strong enough to make me fall asleep. If I don't get dexedrine IR, I'm hoping to at least get a script for Adderall IR, Adderall XR, or Dexedrine Spanules (the extended release ones). Methylphenidate is just crap for me now and for the past four months. I would try methylphenidate IR / Ritalin IR for shits and giggles, but I wouldn't want to be prescribed it.

I was in a similar situation myself. if you were getting methylphenidate for depression you are very lucky because that is off label use. I was getting it for adult adhd and they wanted to take me off my meds or at least change dosing to once a day. fuck that. go to a new doctor. you might want to try and get diagnosed ADD/ADHD though because then you don't have to worry about searching for a doctor that will write it, getting it for depression might be hard. I do know another person who was scripted it for depression but that was in the mid-late 90s but it is not common.

Funny you should mention that

A lot of the Blackmarket Valium that we get here these days actually comes from Pakistan (sealed in blister packs)
A lot of the Zopiclone we get here now comes from Algeria (or Morocco, i forget , but also in blister packets and destined for European markets as they have English writings on the packs)
Temazepam comes from the UK but we don't see it too often anymore

It used to be way different here just a few years ago, where all the benzo's came from local pharmacies, so
most local benzo-heads here complain constantly about the Pakistani (Roche) Valium, but i always took them and saw little difference from the local pharmacy-dispensed diazepam (a recent legit script just further confirmed my standing - there really is no difference between those tabs)

So most folks here are always on the lookout for the "proper Irish" brand benzo's and would refuse the foreign products a lot of the time

But honestly - there is little, if any difference between the "foreign" benzo's and the local ones - they still have the same damn effect on you, and there are local folks who have been years and years on benzo's that agree with my way of thinking

also, recently there was a rather big heist of benzo's (Rohypnol, Dalmane, Zimovane,) at one of our city's warehouse (literally a few millions tablets, and estimated worth of over a million or more - the biggest pharm heist in the history of the nation - i can just imagine the thieves hauling those BARRELS full of benzo's and Zopiclones, It must have been an inside job: if not, fair play to them anyway:

This happened a few months ago, and you'd suspect the streerts here would be flooded with Dalmane and Rohypnol by now, but no such "luck" - very rarely someone would have a few Roofies for sale or a few packckets of Dalmane (just about a year ago the city was literally awash with dalmane) - but all those are in trays or packets, so they couldn't have been from that warehouse theft

I wonder where all them barrels of roofies and dollies went though. :confused:

With the way things are going with Dex, pretty soon everyone will be in that boat. From 5 different manufacturers and 10 different product types, dexedrine is now down to 2 manufacturers and 3 product types. I fully expect that to go down to a single manufacturer soon and one that produces poor product at that. And dexedrine was such a good offering - but may soon join benzidrine in the obsolete Hall of Fame.
