Codeine/Phenergen??

Hi folks, I'm wondering who here has some experience with codeine/phenergen (promethazine) syrup...ever used it? For how long? How'd you feel, etc., etc. I'd sure appreciate some opinions & experiences. Somebody gave me 2 large bottles of purple drank...I'm wondering about it.

Thanks, folks. I'm always using whatever I can find to get a good sleep, and wondered what to do with this stuff, as I don't like being high at work, or unable to drive.

Codeine w/ Promethazine cough syrup is absolutely useless for getting high on the Codeine, since there's such a tiny amount of it in each dose compared to the Promethazine. You'll get knocked out by the Prometh before you'll get high on the Codeine.

Promethazine is a great tranquilizer (in the same class of drugs as Thorazine), so if you're wanting to use it just for sleep it's great stuff. It's also really good for WD. I had a bunch of 25 mg Promethazine tablets and used them to get some sleep during a rough WD and it got me to sleep very easily in doses of at least 75 mgs.

When I had no tolerance I could take some of this and get a good buzz.

Once you get any tolerance it becomes pretty worthless. Good to put you to sleep though.

just got an Rx of it last week 8OZ.

it said to take two teaspoonfuls (10ml)

even as a chipper it did nothing.

two tablespoons full made me a little dizzy and the sore throat was under control.

the Phenargan is an antihistamine and i think it dried me out a little bit.

My throat got worse and the syrup stopped helping so my dr gave me (finally)

The phenergen is a much stronger antihistamine than benadryl. Be careful not to take too much of either. It could make you a bit trippy and delerious.

I think that if you itch while taking promethazine, than benadryl ain't going to help at that point.

side effect ive noticed with the phenergan part of the whole deal was dizziness. i've been fine in high doses and i'm a chipper so.. like that.

First time I took 75mg with a standard maintenence dose of seed tea & although I was feeling nicely sedated & slightly opiated I had some major rls going on.

That is a side effect of those types of drugs, a very rare one. Actually it is considered an adverse reaction.

So glad to hear the rls is very rare and adverse reaction....in wd i have terrible rls, but not EVEry time in wd. I was told by someone here several months ago that the prometh. caused rls, but im very relieved its rare, as you are saying it is....my LIFE depends on phenergan--cuz of gastric bypass, eatting is a huge issue with me (and omg....opiates give me major munchies...which is good for me)..In wd, I find the phenergahn (ops, might of misspelled it, but ya know and who cares..lol)does knock me out cold esp with xanax ! I have tried every method of phenerghan admission and find the suppositories work the best...I also got the pill form as well as the gel that you rub on your tummy or wrist.....very expensive, the gel, without insurance..i was told they give gel to preggo women, but imho, the gel did nothing....hmmm maybe cuz i expected it not too....its weird how they say things absorbed into the skin, can help you...i guess its sorta like the pain patches...sorta, but not really i guess as the gel has to come from a compound pharmacy...i live in BFE, so only pharmacy at local hospital....
anyways know this wasnt what the OP was really asking but i saw the prometh. and read the responses and feel a lil better knowing that its a rarity with rls and prometh. whewwww !!!! lol just wanted to thank you for this info.....
I have always been fond of benedryl and use it with and for anything....lol...even my kids will come and ask me for it cuz it helps them fall asleep better, faster on school nite...as for me, adding the prometh, with benedryl AnD xanax, unless bedtime, then its restoril...at least knocks me out for a while instead of hurting and being in pain...fuk*en wd suck ass big time...booo hooo...lol..
and oh yeah on the codiene part....sucks ass in my opinion also...i wouldnt turn it down if given it in er to take h ome or anything..gotta think....potentiate..ha ! last time i had an abcess dr handed me script for it and i marched right on to my internist for some real pain meds.
CODIENE sux....i wish it were sold otc here, i think it would be better than apap at least and that seems to be the only thing at a persons disposal, esp with no insurance, etc!
sorry to have rambled, but here again one med i have been on every month, in every form of the med (cept iv 'course...lol) and thought id chime in....and also not feeling so well yet...wd hell not over and MF'ers one by one pissing me off....which is also helping me make better, cheaper ways to get doc. and not have to wait by the clock pissed off that someone isnt answering AgAIN !!! UGH!

Abosolutely true, I wrote that post high as hell and wasnt thinking the best.


Phenergan will def potentiate the medicine, but it depends on how much is included in the bottle because it can possibly be used as an anti-abuse mediation because if u take too much prometh, you will feel like absolute horror-show; well depending on your tolerance and the amount of phenergan per dose of codeine that it states.

The absolute shittiest combo of codeine in a syrup is Rx- Robotussin AC! This shit contains the phlegm/congestion reducer or eliminator Guaifanesin! If you don't know what that is I suggest never taking much, even someone with a small tolerance of codeine out of that bottle in an attempt to get high because you will projectile vomit at 100 km/ an hour! LOL :D
