When in doubt titrate up slowly until you start having adverse reactions. I honestly don't know the answer to your question but I'm bored and in a fairly decent mood I'll see if I can't find something for you.

Here's what I got out of the PDR:

"Headaches, ranging from mild to severe, have been reported in patients taking 1600mg a day. Dizziness and somnolence (usually mild) in patients taking either 1600mg/day or 800mg/day. And rare instances of cardiac arrhythmias and hypotension have been reported upon rapid administration. Also dose related increase in serum transaminase have been reprted. In most cases they did not progress with continued thearpy and returned to normal at the end of thearpy. There have been rare reports of cholestatic or mized cholestatic-hepatocellular effects in larger doses. Even these were usually reversable though."

Of course I am paraphrasing all that. I also know that Cimetidine has the reputation of lowering white blood cell counts too, so I would assume the higher the dose the more dangerous the risk. I didn't really go around looking for a LD50 because I don't think it would serve of any use; really you only need so much Tagament to disable the enzymes your after... there's no reason to over-kill it. Just like people that drink white grapefruit juice along with their Tagament. I don't understand it, they do the same thing and you only need so much. I have found that about 3 or 4 of the 200mg tablets of generic Tagament (Cimetidine), so between 600 and 800mg, to be quite adequiet and anything over that causes no greater effect. What you need my freind is more Opaites, not more Cimetidine.

Your guts will tell you as well...

when I take too much of any of the PPI (proton pump inhibitors) as opposed to the H2 blockers like Zantac, I will eat something and realize I don't have enough stomach acid to digest the freakin food in my belly.....it will hurt and sit there a good long while....and you'll most likely know...like the food sinks like a rock!!

Yeah, an LD50 isn't very useful as I'd hate to take push that limit. For most things available OTC, the LD50 and the ED90 is so fucking far apart as to make anyone hitting the LD50 level probably didn't have the mental capacity to make their own medical decisions.

Obviously you can't disable the enzyme more than total deactivation. I've never bothered with grapefruit juice just because it's so much easier to just take a couple pills.

I've always just taken one 200mg pill before, and only recently tried taking one or two more, and noticed a boosted effect. I was just wondering how much higher can I go before I get to that total deactivation- and if I could get there without killing myself.

wow, I retract what I posted earlier, lol....I forgot that Tagamet is so old that IT IS one of the H2 blockers, NOT one of the PPI meds!!!

<<<<out to lunch...back in service when I have some decent opies on board for a change....

Yeah, 3 or 4 of the 200mg pills is the max effectiveness for me but remember different people have different enzyme counts. While 3 to 4 may do me 6 might serve you better. Everybody is different and when trying to find the maximum effective dose for you with any drug slowly titrating up is always the best method.
