Have a question about taking a lie detector test. There seems to be a thief in my office some money is missing. $120.00 from a payment that came in and $ 330.00 from where I don't know the detective that questioned me friday said "that is for the person who took it to know". On friday 2 punk ass detectives visited my office but only told myself and one other girl that we would have to take the lie test. I had a feeling this girl in office had already mentioned that I am a recoverying alocoholic so I told the detective I was and after this comment he said he was feeling like maybe I did it. I hate damn cops. Anyway I am on probation for a DWI and trying to get custody of my daughter back so this could really hurt me if the lie test comes up wrong. I wasn't even here when the first money came up missing and damn sure didn't take the other money. I have read about these test on the net and they are not accurate. He had asked me during interview if I had any other addictions ---- welll yeah !!!! but didn't tell him this and will this show on test???? ....... I am so pissed at my boss for handling this matter like this I could walk. Its was all could do to come to work today. Please anyone who has dealt with this before or taken a lie detector test let me know what to expect here........... Thanks guys for being here...

Polygraphs don't work, they are BS. You can lie and beat them, or you can tell the truth and have it come up as a lie. It's pseudo-science.

It sounds to me your best defense is your alibi when the first money was taken. If you can show positively without a doubt that you couldn't have taken the first money, then anybody with any sense would know it probably wasn't you who took it the second time.

I have to disagree with you on that one.

Consider: the US Government has a protocol of testing people with top-level security clearance for being spies, using polygraphs. After decades of this procedure not one spy has ever been uncovered using a polygraph. On the other hand, plenty of people who were definitely spies have passed the polygraph tests with flying colors.

If it really was a matter of getting "a good operator" you would think certainly the FBI, CIA, NSA, etc. would get some good operators, and rid themselves of spies, right? So why don't they?

The answer of course is that the polygraph machines don't work.

Of course you can make the argument that some people are really good at "knowing when they are being lied to" -- and that much is 100% true. Those are the kinds of people who are "good operators" as you put it. The machine itself is secondary, it's basically there to flim-flam the person being tested. You could rip the guts out of the machine and it would almost serve the same purpose, as long as the subject isn't aware of it.

A good polygraph operator could get equally good results using the above device as well, provided that the subject believes it actually is a lie-detecting machine.

Anyhow, getting back to BLUEGIRL85's problem, I agree with everybody else here that she should refuse to take the polygraph--but not because they work so well; because they don't work.

Have you considered most spies are psychopaths? Plus you can learn how to improve your chances of "passing".

They're not accurate,but as I say a good polygraph operator has a good idea.

Polygraphs are inadmissible in Michigan. I actually would bet $5 that its the whole US from a supreme court ruling. I flunked 2 polys cause I was nervous as fuck. I told the cop that in the beginning and he said "Well, if you didnt do anything wrong, whats to be nervous about"? It measures differences in heart rate when you answer a question. If you lie, heart rate goes up, if your tellin the truth, it stays about the same. And it is no crime to refuse the motherfucker. If you took the $$$, DO NOT submit to the test, and git a lawyer. If you didnt, if it was my situation Id take the damn test and lie about everything to throw them off. Honestly...

lie detectors don't mean shit. you can google how to fuck with them by contracting certain muscles in the body to artificially fuck with your blood pressure. they aren't admissible in court. there is a pretty definitive way to tell if someone is lying, however, this is experimental and requires access to an MRI.

A tack is not so important here but anything you can think of to discreetly inflict a quick pain on yourself will do. If you really know what to expect you step on the tack during the reaction questions only but it's not all that important. Just fuck the whole thing up as much as possible...

I was going to post a reply to the thread, but you pretty much said what I had to say, although I didn't have the good innovation of stepping on the tack, but it was similar. You're right and that will absolutely help fuck it up so that it is useless; well, moreso than it already is naturally.

I would never take a polygraph, drug test, or anything remotely similar because nobody has the right to invade me like that.

why are they raising such a stink over a few hundred bucks???? You have rights! don't let anybody tell you otherwise. BUT, when you refuse the test be sure to tell them that you are doing so because 1: it proves nothing, and 2: you would be giving up a personal freedom by doing so.

Tell them that they are free to ask you any questions relating to the investigation and that you would be happy to help in this respect.

If they ask you about drugs/alcoholism/previous charges, tell them that it is none of thier business, and as for previous charges that they already know about, you have paid your debt to society and no longer wish to discuss these issues.

Be polite, but DO NOT give up your rights!!!
