I'm taking milk thistle for my liver and I was looking for side effects and it said that it could boost methedone and anti deppresant levels but lowered lorazepam levels. Just thought this was interesting. Any one else know any herbs that are good for the Liver?Hep C? A lot of people might not be able to afford interfuron treatment but could afford some herbal supplements. Not a replacement for the care of a physician but its better than doing nothing.

If anyone doesn't know about NAC, and you(swiy?) use vicodin or percs or any other tylenol-containing pain med, you should. Every user should keep a bottle at hand (gnc, $10). It will save your liver from acetaminophen toxicity.

Check webMD: http://firstaid.webmd.com/acetaminophen_tylenol_poisoning_treatment_firstaid .htm

"N-acetylcysteine (NAC): NAC is the antidote for toxic acetaminophen overdose. It is generally given by mouth. The medication has a foul odor but may be mixed with juice or other flavorings to make it taste better. If the person cannot take NAC by mouth, the medication can be given through a tube from the mouth into the stomach. If giving NAC by this method is not possible, the doctor may give it intravenously. NAC is generally given for 20-72 hours."

Milk thistle is thought to be good for the liver and anyone on Methadone should be concerned about the interactions other drugs have Methadone.

The above link may give you a good idea of how Methadone is metabolised and what drugs to avoid.
Hope this helps. It can explain it better than I can!

I *do* take it daily...in my little sectioned off pill-holder with my pills in it. And not the good stuff either! The crap I have to take to stay healthy. I thought when you got older, that's when you got the good meds....

it's just anecdotal claims there is not much scientific information.

Acually there are alot of studies that show milk thistle to help with liver function.
I acually know some MD's who recommend it.
I have had Hep C for 9-10 years, and always have good panels.
I take milk thistle. Good Stuff!!
You body acually already makes interferon but they are just super boosting the quantity with the shots.

I looked just now and could'nt find the exact page again, but I have seen a bar graph indicating the reduction of bad liver enzymes without MT, with, and with this other cleanser.
It was something like this:

Without| Milk Thistle| Acme liver cleaner

*
*
*
* ---------*
* ---------* --------------*
* ---------* --------------*

As you can see with Milk Thistle alone there is a large reduction in harmfull liver enzymes.

Here are some other products (Most include milk thistle)

Of course the main key is to NOT drink and stop using drugs...yeah right!

However if you can do that your chances of living with Hep C the rest of your life (and not dying from it) are way way increased.
