Here's my favorite:
Carmelita
I hear Mariachi static on my radio
And the tubes they glow in the dark
And I'm there with her in Ensenada
And I'm here in Echo Park
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Well, I'm sittin' here playing solitaire
With my pearl-handled deck
The county won't give me no more methadone
And they cut off your welfare check
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Well, I pawned my Smith Corona
And I went to meet my man
He hangs out down on Alvarado Street
By the Pioneer chicken stand
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Originally by Warren Zevon, but the best version of it was done by by GG Allin.

The Velvet Underground - Heroin
I don't know just where I'm going
But I'm gonna try for the kingdom, if I can
'Cause it makes me feel like I'm a man
When I put a spike into my vein
And I'll tell ya, things aren't quite the same
When I'm rushing on my run
And I feel just like Jesus' son
And I guess that I just don't know
And I guess that I just don't know
I have made the big decision
I'm gonna try to nullify my life
'Cause when the blood begins to flow
When it shoots up the dropper's neck
When I'm closing in on death
And you can't help me now, you guys
And all you sweet girls with all your sweet talk
You can all go take a walk
And I guess that I just don't know
And I guess that I just don't know
I wish that I was born a thousand years ago
I wish that I'd sail the darkened seas
On a great big clipper ship
Going from this land here to that
In a sailor's suit and cap
Away from the big city
Where a man can not be free
Of all of the evils of this town
And of himself, and those around
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know
Heroin, be the death of me
Heroin, it's my wife and it's my life
Because a mainer to my vein
Leads to a center in my head
And then I'm better off and dead
Because when the smack begins to flow
I really don't care anymore
About all the Jim-Jim's in this town
And all the politicians makin' crazy sounds
And everybody puttin' everybody else down
And all the dead bodies piled up in mounds
'Cause when the smack begins to flow
Then I really don't care anymore
Ah, when the heroin is in my blood
And that blood is in my head
Then thank God that I'm as good as dead
Then thank your God that I'm not aware
And thank God that I just don't care
And I guess I just don't know
And I guess I just don't know
Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers - Chinese Rocks
Somebody called me on the phone
they said hey, is Dee Dee home
do you wanna take a walk
do ya wanna go and cop
do ya wanna go get some chinese rocks?
I'm living on chinese rocks
all my best things are in hock
I'm living on chinese rocks
everything is in the pawn shop
The plaster's falling off the wall
my girlfriend's crying in the shower stall
It's hot as a bitch
I shoulda been rich
But I'm just diggin this chinese ditch

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb.
Hello.
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?
Come on, now.
I hear you’re feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.
Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts:
Can you show me where it hurts?
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship’s smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re sayin’.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can’t explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.
Ok.
Just a little pinprick. [ping]
There’ll be no more --aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it’s working. good.
That’ll keep you going for the show.
Come on it’s time to go.
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship’s smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re sayin’.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

Wave Motion Gun by Marcy Playground
Backstage behind the curtain there's an
There's an armchair with a secret engine and you
You climb in and get naked watching Star Blazers
Wish you had their amenities
To fend off your enemies
In one big blast from your wave motion gun
And so you reach down to that secret panel and there's a
There's a whole raft of little buttons and you
You pick one and hope it takes you to Mars
Soon there'll be no pain again
You'll feel like yourself again
When you shoot all your heroin
In one big blast from your wave motion gun
And so downstairs behind the oven there's a
There's a dark hole where, where the gas comes in
You know you should, you should climb in
It'll get you there so much faster
Soon there'll be no pain again
You'll feel like yourself again
When you shoot all your heroin
In one big blast from
In one big shot from
In one big blast from
In one big shot
From your wave motion gun
Wave motion gun
Wave motion gun
Wave motion gun
Wave motion gun
Wave motion gun
At one point, just as I was starting to develop my first habit I burned a CD with every song on it about heroin or opiates. If I couldn't score, or was waiting for my friend to come back from doing so, I would just listen to it over and over again in a dark room, starring at my three phones and the clock praying I'd get a phone call or the person would just show up. The chorus to this song would make me want it so bad it would cause a kind of psychosis that would almost bring me out of my body, leaving me to only have to feel the amplified psychological pain of withdrawal and not the physical. Has any one else ever done or experienced anything similar?

Funny you should mention, I thought I was the only one that certain music had that effect on. I'd listen to certain " Nine Inch Nails " songs when I was loaded and it would make the trip more bizarre. Then I would listen to certain songs when I'd be in withdrawal and it would become so intense in my head that I could almost feel the buzz again. I 've always felt music enhanced my moods whether good or bad depending on what type of mood I was in at the time or wanted to be in. Incense does me the same way, but I never get in an aggressive mood with the incense, I just mellow out. Certain types of music does make my anxiety and depression unbearable at times when I'm in withdrawal but I'm stilled compelled to listen regardless of that fact. Weird huh?

Children's Crusade
Sting
(With chords (for all you musicians))
F#m
Bm G A E
Young men and soldiers, nineteen fourteen.
Bm G A C
Marching through countries they'd never seen
Bm G A E
Virgins with rifles, a game of charades
C Bm7 A C A C
All for a children's crusade
[same chords]
Pawns in the game are not victims of chance
Strewn on the fields of Belgium and France
Poppies for young men, death's bitter trade
C Bm7 A
All of those young lives betrayed
Chorus:
C G C G
The children of England would never be slaves
C Bm Em Bb13
They're trapped on the wire and dying in waves
C G C G
The Flower of England face down in the mud
C Bm Em Bb13
And stained in the blood of a whole generation
[chords like verse 1]
Copulent generals, safe behind lines
History's lessons, drowned in red wine
Poppies for young men, death's bitter trade
All of those young lives betrayed
C Bm7 Em
All for a children's crusade
During solo: Em Bm7
Repeat Chorus
[chords like verse 3]
Midnight in Soho, nineteen eighty-four
Fixing in door ways, opium slaves
Poppies for young men, death's bitter trade
All of those young lives betrayed
All for a children's crusade.
Bb13=6x678x, could be Ebmaj7/Bb=x11333 as well.
This song is not glorifying opiates, quite the opposite. It's more apparent when you read sting's comments about the meaning of the song...
Still... I LOVE to get high and listen to it.
shoot'n up and gett'n high
by Me'Shell Ndegecello (another favorite)
this is a song about sadness
shoot'n up and gett'n high
shoot'n up
and gett'n high with my baby
barely livin' and
i ain't got nothin' to lose
shoot'n up and gett'n high with my baby
gett'n high, gett'n high
shoot'n up
and gett'n high with my baby
barely livin' and i ain't got nothin' to lose
shoot'n up and gett'n high with my baby
gett'n high, gett'n high
he lived about three train stops away
i was a train ride away from heaven
he would "signify" about politics,
low-income housing,
birth control and abortion
the capitalistic hand around my throat
shootin' up dope to cope
in this dehumanizing society
we both found god when he o.d.'d
shoot'n up
and gett'n high with my baby
barely livin' and i ain't got nothin' to lose
shoot'n up and gett'n high with my baby
gett'n high, gett'n high
shoot'n up
and gett'n high with my baby
barely livin' and i ain't got nothin' to lose
shoot'n up and gett'n high with my baby
gett'n high, gett'n high
we found beauty in our black skin
amidst the cover girls and clairol ads
makin' no mistake that white is right
livin' in a world where my tv shouts,
"forget where you come from!"
and damn,
i thought i was shootin' up africa in my veins,
white man's voodoo
slow fuckin' my brain
now baby says
the white man fights wars
and enslaves
all in god's name
shoot'n up
and gett'n high with my baby
barely livin' and i ain't got nothin' to lose
shoot'n up and gett'n high with my baby
gett'n high, gett'n high
shoot'n up
and gett'n high with my baby
barely livin' and i ain't got nothin' to lose
shoot'n up and gett'n high with my baby
gett'n high, gett'n high
what ya trying to achieve with your suntan lotion
you wanna keep me down
keep me down
revolution
against this racist institution
the white man shall forever sleep with one eye
open
dehumanize me, set aside, and criticize
i'm livin' in the midst of genocide
i hear voices
voices are what i hear
i hear voices
voices are what i hear
uprise
would you die
would you die for your right
uprise
would you die
would you die for your rights, baby
uprise
would you die
would you die for your right
shoot'n up
and gett'n high with my baby
barely livin' and i ain't got nothin' to lose
uprise
would you die
would you die for your right
gett'n high, gett'n high
shoot'n up and gett'n high with my baby
barely livin' and i ain't got nothin' to lose
so if there's a hell below
we're all gonna go
gett'n high
so with this shit
i trip
close my eyes
to spread my wings and fly
my turntable spins from the blue and green
gett'n high
given evidence of things not seen
so if there's a hell below
we're all gonna go
we're all gonna go
yo, so with this shit
i trip
close my eyes
spread my wings and fly
just shootin' up gett'n high
and gettin' high with my baby
shoot'n up
and gett'n high with my baby
barely livin' and i ain't got nothin' to lose
gett'n high, gett'n high
shoot'n up
and gett'n high with my baby
gett'n high, gett'n high
shoot'n up
and gett'n high with my baby
barely livin' and i ain't got nothin' to lose
shoot'n up and gett'n high with my baby
gett'n high, gett'n high.

There are so many great songs about heroin use, and most of them I like high or clean. My all time favorite would have to be Bring Me Dead Flowers, by The Rolling Stones. It is the only song that mentions heroin use and the Kentucky Derby all in one, and you gotta love that. Then again there are so many to choose from?

Junkhead by Alice in Chains
A good night, the best in a long time
A new friend turned me on to an old favorite
Nothing better than a dealer who’s high
Be high, convince them to buy
What’s my drug of choice?
Well, what have you got?
I don’t go broke
And I do it a lot
Seems so sick to the hypocrite norm
Running their boring drills
But we are an elite race of our own
The stoners, junkies, and freaks
Are you happy? I am, man.
Content and fully aware
Money, status, nothing to me
’cause your life is empty and bare
You can’t understand a user’s mind
But try, with your books and degrees
If you let yourself go and opened your mind
I’ll bet you’d be doing like me
And it ain’t so bad
Say, I do it a lot!
Say, I do it a lot!
Say, I do it a lot!
Say, I do it a lot!

Choking Victim - 500 Channels
500 channels of a day-dream stimulation
helps me to resent my life and raise my expectations.
Locked into re-runs, your memories repeating,
and all your ideals seem so self defeating.
For you and yours, the pepsi generation,
and when you're discontent, you change the T.V. station,
And when you hate your life, no qualtities redeeming,
a million brainwashed zombies will always be heard screaming...
And when there is no hope,
"I'll smoke some crack, I'll shoot some dope!"
When theres no enemies,
"I sit and stare at my T.V.
and in my ignorance,
I'll be a slave and sycophant!"
And in a perfect world devoid of all temptations,
the good leftover crizack could unite the nations.
But now the war machines are mapping our destructions
with poisons over flowing in the chemical seductions.
And when there is no hope,
"I'll smoke some crack, I'll shoot some dope!"
When theres no enemies,
"I sit and stare at my T.V.
and in my ignorance,
I'll be a slave and sycophant!"
With my credit and my bank,
my mind will draw a blank.
I'll block out history,
and stare at my T.V.
For me there is no way.
500 channels waste my life away, away...
Leftover Crack (as the Crack Rock Steady 7) - Heroin or Suicide
Hey see you know what I, I know what I dont
You promise you promise and I know you won't
The problems and pressures we face everyday
Are sometimes more like but always on display
It breaks in your ears it aches in your bones and brings you to tears
With various incisions you load another bullet
Your shootin' with precision
I'm talented with atrophy yea i do it well
you know I'd like to take a break from suffering in hell
Squattin' is the excuse is I frequently abuse
Either way I hold the chain im gonna need a noose cause PAIN!!!!!!!!
Sweats on my skin, sick with bad memories and burns for my sin PAIN!!!!!!!
To talk with each breath
The only solution is the sweet taste of death!
Don't mistake the demeanor
My kindness and weakness
I'll burn you with reality
While you cry to your Jesus
You're suffocating in two
You're choking in an empty room
You're empty life thats ending soon
Completely spells your doom
I made a choice deep inside
heroin or suicide?
sickness praised in times of need
we waste away from hands of greed
Jesus nailed to wooded T's
cannot compete with my disease
humanity the weak condition my soul is sick from my decision
PAIN!!! The badness increases
The goodness wants to cry while we are cut to pieces
PAIN!!! Precious death
Paralysed with apathy thats all thats fucking left!
PAIN!!!

mr brownstone
I get up around seven
Get outta bed around nine
And I don't worry about nothin' no
Cause worryin's a waste of my...time
The show usually starts around seven
We go on stage around nine
Get on the bus about eleven
Sippin' a drink and feelin' fine
We been dancin' with
Mr. Brownstone
He's been knockin'
He won't leave me alone
I used ta do a little
but a little wouldn't do
So the little got more and more
I just keep tryin'
ta get a little better
Said a little better than before
I used ta do a little
but a little wouldn't do
So the little got more and more
I just keep tryin'
ta get a little better
Said a little better than before
We been dancin' with
Mr. Brownstone
He's been knockin'
He won't leave me alone
Now I get up around whenever
I used ta get up on time
But that old man
he's a real muthafucker
Gonna kick him on down the line
the dead milkmen junkie
My best friend is a junkie
He shoots up all day
Sometimes he even shits himself
What else can I say?
Shoot up or shut up (x4)
If his girl don't score
He beats her black and blue
He wears his track marks like tattoos
I love to hear his junkie talk
Whenever he talks on the sidewalk
My best friend is a junkie
It's sad but true
My best friend is a junkie
What does your best friend do?
My best friend is a junkie
He shoots up all day
Sometimes he even shits himself
What else can I say?
Shoot up or shut up (x4)

I love the band morphine albums like good and yes...one of my favorite lines is did everything wrong but I never got caught so of course I would do it all over again.. I had the personal experience of meeting Sandman personally at the Stone Pony. He was one of the most down to earth guys I have ever met. Talked about AP like it was a ghost town. Everybody I was with was star struck I shook his hand b/c he Knew the story and knew the score.:p:p:p. Whole album piece by piece are Yes, Good, and Honey White. After one of my boy's gave Sandman his half drank Snapple I shook the man's hand and told him great show. In my mind there shit is timeless.

Jesus and Mary Chain - "Till it shines" there's a couple lines in here that make me think it's about H. This is one of THE BEST bands out. They don't get no respect, though. Junkies, not doubt.
Till it shines -
sung by William
written by William
Come, come and dry your eyes
Before the morning sun arrives
Kiss, everybody is a star
No matter who or what they are
I could tell the truth but what's the use
It's been abused by us
Junk the junk love the love
It's a secret from above
Ain't it good it's the drug that keeps us true
I got to get some through to you
I got mine and I got you
Just for the two of us
Come, come and dry your eyes
And watch the morning sun arrive
Kiss, everybody is a star
No matter who or what they are
I could tell the truth but what's the use
It's been abused by us
Until it shines
Till it shines
I won't die

Mudvayne - Cultivate
What you dreed, can't let go!
Dah!
Dah!
Got the disease in my mind that chaos runs through in you
Guilty toys for your insides
Just plead and i'll conduct you
Believe in me, i'm the juice recieve from me
The hand of truth in still your trust
I'll take you there
Penetrate and run, run through
Feel it so warm
Branded forearm
Synthetic high to drain you
Accelerated poles, blood rush through
Branded forearm
MuDvAyNe returned
Inner mutiny, lost tranquility
Broken people fixed again plumbing christened with disorder
You took a pill that was in the drain
Took a spell to possess you, why?
You embrace me for the high
Unfocused black swells as you die
Inner silence solicits sympathy
Departed being struggles so desperatly
I'm so outside myself
Breathless body betrays my cry for help
Lifeless i lie, lifeless and so passified
Rest in earth, rest in peace
Await rebirth as i roll up my sleeves
Roll up my fuckin' sleeves
Feel it so warm
Branded forearm
Masticate you as i cultivate through
Your life I loathe
Motherfucker!
Scrambled being your impressions leaking
Sins been basoned in you
Do what I do just to see it through you
Your life is death now
Consequenses been plowed under earth
Ashes to ashes, and dust to dust
Ashes to ashes, and dust to dust
I said ashes to ahes, and dust to dust
Ashes to ashes, and dust to DUST
ASHES TO ASHES, AND DUST TO DUST
ASHES TO ASHES, AND DUST TO DUST
ASHES TO ASHES, AND DUST TO DUST
ASHES TO ASHES, AND DUST TO DUST

I'M WAITING FOR MY MAN has excellent lyrics. The Velvet Underground does it, but I think maybe Bowie wrote it or Iggy. Not sure.
I only recall some of the lyrics..
I'm waiting for my man
twenty-six dollars in my hand
up to Lexington, & 125
feeling sick and dirty
more dead than alive
The best part though is this:
Here he comes all dressed in black
PR shoes, and a straw hat
He's NEVER EARLY, he's ALWAYS LATE
first thing you learn is you
ALWAYS HAVE TO WAIT
Sang that chorus a billion times to myself.

nah Lou Reed wrote it, it was originally on the Velvet Underground and Nico record with the song Heroin. Bowie did several versions of it live and recorded.

Come on man! Noone has mentioned Red Hot Chili Pepper's "Under the Bridge?"
Although someone DID mention NIN, they didn't single out "Hurt"although I prefer Johhny Cash's version...nothing really beats it.
My all time favorite though is Kracker's "Low" "A million poppies gonna make me sleep..."
Ah yes, Rachamin, Kracker. "Low" is a cool song.
That band is from Richmond, Virginia. I used to live there and that's were I first got turned on to H. It seems that for a relatively small city, Richmond is a major heroin kinda town. I am not sure why, but I think it's because they are pretty close to Newport News and Hamptom Roads, which are very large harbors where a lot of international shipping comes in from Asia. Along with New York, Baltimore and New Orleans, those are the places on the East coast where the H comes in. The stuff I was getting when I lived in Richmond was always very good. Off-white tan colored powder, in hard chunks - with a slight smell to it like when you cook rice. I was led to believe by the people I was buying it from that the shit was from Afghanistan/Pakistan/Iran.

Happiness is a warm gun.......Beatles of course
Cold Turkey....John Lennon
Well, it's been a while since anyone's added to this thread. We haven't by no means addressed all songs about H, not even all the good ones.
So, here's anudder wun. I was just listening to an old Catherine Wheel CD, the album's called "Happy Days," and it has one track on it called "Judy Staring at the Sun." Backing vocals done by Tanya Donnely, of Throwing Muses fame, another 90's alternative band which was heroin fueled (I think she got busted somehow in connection with Kim Deal of the Pixies, on some H shipping thing through the mail - a few ounces were being mailed to one of both of them and they got busted - duuuuuh!).
But I digress (must be the temazepam talking). so, this song "Judy Staring at the Sun" first verse goes like this:
Smacked up again behind the door,
baby please give me some more.
A vein that's open for the day,
feel the pulse beneath the skin.
I'm smiling as it all begins,
Oh where have you been?
which leads into the chorus...
Overall, it's a fucking great song. Catherine Wheel had three exceptional albums - the first three - which were titled "Ferment," "Chrome" (which includes a song about crank) and the aformentioned "Happy Days." Their fourth offering, called "Wishville" is unspectacular. A good listen if you like the band, something you can play in the background while having company over, but nobody's going to go "hey turn that up, that's fuckin' aaaawwweeesssssoooommmmeee!" Won't happen. Nobody'll say, "turn that shit off, it fucking sucks" either, though.
Anyone into, (or used to be, I should ask) Catherine Wheel?

Jeez, I remember the Catherine Wheel ... tail-end of the whole Shoegazer/ Scene That Celebrates Itself thing. I can't remember albums ... just first coupla EPs.
Funny you should mention them ... I've been getting very nostalgic lately and buying old fave's like Galaxy500, Spacemen3, Curve, Teenage Fanclub, Suede and My Bloody Valentine.

one of my Fav's to all you punk fans
the La's
There she goes
There she goes again
Racing thru' my brain
And I just can't contain
This feelin' that remains
There she blows
There she blows again
Pulsing thru' my vein
And I just can't contain
This feelin' that remains
There she goes, there she goes again
She calls my name, pulls my train
No-one else could heal my pain
And I just can't contain
This feelin' that remains
There she goes
There she goes again
Chasing down my lane
And I just can't contain
This feelin' that remains
antigone they band sure is harcore.

lou reed "street hassle" all three parts.
A) waltzing matilda
Waltzing matilda whipped out her wallet
The sexy boy smiled in dismay
She took out four twenties cause she liked round figures
Everybodys a queen for a day
Oh, babe, Im on fire and you know how I admire your -
- body why dont we slip away
Although Im sure youre certain, its a rarity me flirtin
Sha-la-la-la, this way
Oh, sha-la-la-la-la, sha-la-la-la-la
Hey, baby, come on, lets slip away
Luscious and gorgeous, oh what a hunk of muscle
Call out the national guard
She creamed in her jeans as he picked up her means
From off of the formica topped bar
And cascading slowly, he lifted her wholly
And boldly out of this world
And despite peoples derision
Proved to be more than diversion
Sha-la-la-la, later on
And then sha-la-la-la-la, he entered her slowly
And showed her where he was coming from
And then sha-la-la-la-la, he made love to her gently
It was like shed never ever come
And then sha-la-la-la-la, sha-la-la-la-la
When the sun rose and he made to leave
You know, sha-la-la-la-la, sha-la-la-la-la
Neither one regretted a thing
B) street hassle
Hey, that cunts not breathing
I think shes had too much
Of something or other, hey, man, you know what I mean
I dont mean to scare you
But youre the one who came here
And youre the one whos gotta take her when you leave
Im not being smart
Or trying to be cold on my part
And Im not gonna wear my heart on my sleeve
But you know people get all emotional
And sometimes, man, they just dont act rational
They think theyre just on tv
Sha-la-la-la, man
Why dont you just slip her away
You know, Im glad that we met man
It really was nice talking
And I really wish that there was a little more time to speak
But you know it could be a hassle
Trying to explain myself to a police officer
About how it was that your old lady got herself stiffed
And its not like we could help
But there was nothing no one could do
And if there was, man, you know I would have been the first
But when someone turns that blue
Well, its a universal truth
And then you just know that bitch will never fuck again
By the way, thats really some bad shit
That you came to our place with
But you ought to be more careful around the little girls
Its either the best or its the worst
And since I dont have to choose
I guess I wont and I know this aint no way to treat a guest
But why dont you grab your old lady by the feet
And just lay her out on the darkened street
And by morning, shes just another hit and run
You know, some people got no choice
And they cant never find a voice
To talk with that they can even call their own
So the first thing that they see
That allows them the right to be
Why they follow it, you know, its called bad luck
C) slipaway
Believe me, that its just a lie
Thats what she tells her friends
cause the real song, the real song
Which she wont even admit to herself
Beat narrow heart, the song lots of people know
Its a painful song
Itll only say the truth
It lasts for sad songs
Penny for a wish
A wish wont make you a soldier
A pretty kiss or a pretty face
Cant have its way
The tramps like us who were born to play
Love is gone away
And theres no one here now
And theres nothing left to say
But, oh, how I miss him, baby
Oh, baby, come on and slip away
Come on, baby, why dont you slip away
Love is gone away
Took the rings off my fingers
And theres nothing left to say
But, oh how, oh how I need him, baby
Come on, baby, I need you baby
Oh, please dont slip away
I need your loving so bad, babe
Please dont slip away

jesse and i were not looking so pretty
we hadn't been well in awhile
we ran out of cash and they ran out of pity
our demeanor lacked what you'd call style
alone in my room with a 100 watt lightbulb
and books i can't find to read
i'm scrapin' bags double-boilin' cottons
i'm lookin' around for my rig
well it's dull and it's bent
and you can't read the numbers
but nevertheless it's my friend
with my belt between teeth
i'm ready to be friendly once again
yeah, yeah
niki, oh niki, so young and so pretty
your dad doesn't know what you are
instead of a habit you should have a hobby
like barbie or bugglegum cards
well what good are the make-up
and what good are makers
if nothing can make you feel good
jesse go, jesse run
please make quick to the bad neighborhoods
i'll wait for you

4 and 9 are my favorites. I quit when I got mono and HepC and had to move home to pay off medical bills. Now the tin flute player for the Dropkick Murphey's plays drums. He recorded our album right before I had to leave.
I never liked our singers voice nor did i like 90% of his lyrics but i do like the way the music itself sounds. Our bassist rocked....as did our guitarist...you can decide for yourself how good a drummer i am.

The Gun Club ringtones! http://pics.nomorelyrics.net/mobile.gif (http://nmlyrics.ringtone-logo-game.com/4-014/uk_en/search/The%20Gun%20Club/1/index.html) Walkin With The Beast lyrics
In the still of the night, I walk with the Beast
in the heat of the night, I sleep with the Beast
who slipped so deep inside me
and rots the love right out of me
I prayed to Elvis on my knees
to take this thing from around me
or snap it with a thundercrack
and change my blues to black
but, how did my love surround me
with such a dead thing around me,
I'm just walkin' I'm just walkin'
I'm just walkin'
Walkin' with the Beast...
I'm not alone, there's trucks outside
My body hurts, there's trucks outside
you get lucky in the bar
you're down and lucky in the dark
indian winds across the skies
black against the Nevada skies
there's nothing you say that does not squeal
there's nothing you want you do not steal
well, how my love surrounds me
with such a dead thing around me
I'm just walkin' I'm just walkin'
I'm just walkin'
Walkin' with the Beast
The Beast will be with me tonight
wild across the western sky
someday, I'll go to the mountain and take my stand
and my spirit will rain all over this land
Sick across the highway bar
sick and going way too far
it's the new world, see if you like it
it's the new world, you cannot fight it
Well, how my love done blessed me
with such a dead thing around me,
I'm just walkin' with the beast...

Patience runs out on the junkie (http://arts.ucsc.edu/gdead/agdl/vict.html#bunny)
The dark side hires another soul
Did he steal his fate or earn it
Was he force-fed, did he learn it?????
Whatever happened to his precious self control
Like him I'm tired of trying to heal
This tom-cat heart with which I'm blessed
Is destruction loving's twin
Must I choose to lose or win
Maybe when my turn comes I will have guessed
These are the horns of the dilemma (http://arts.ucsc.edu/gdead/agdl/vict.html#horns)
What truth is proof against all lies
When sacred fails before profane (http://arts.ucsc.edu/gdead/agdl/votc.html#profane)
The wisest man is deemed insane
Even the purest of romantics compromise
What fixation feeds this fever
As the full moon pales and climbs
Am I living truth or rank deceiver
Am I the victim or the crime
Am I the victim or the crime
Am I the victim or the crime
Or the crime
And so I wrestle with the angel (http://arts.ucsc.edu/gdead/agdl/vict.html#angel)
To see who'll reap the seeds I sow
Am I the driver or the driven
Will I be damned to be forgiven
Is there anybody here but me who needs to know
What it is to face this fever
As the full moon pales and climbs
Am I living truth or rank deceiver
Am I the victim or the crime
Am I the victim or the crime
Am I the victim or the crime
Or the crime

I'm pretty sure Lou Reed denied Perfect Day ever being about smack. Although it was great in that scene in Trainspotting. Same goes for Golden Brown, the Stranglers denied the drug reference, but come on, the imagery was just too perfect.
Elliott Smith has a lot of good ones about H. One particular favorite of mine, a song called "Needle in the Hay". Not really about the drug itself, but the desperate junkie.
your hand on his arm
haystack charm
around your neck
strung out and thin
calling some friend
trying to cash some check
hes acting dumb
thats what youve come to expect
needle in the hay
hes wearing your clothes
head down to toe
hes a reaction to you
you say you know what he did
but you idiot kid
you dont have a clue
sometimes they just
get caught in the eye
youre pullin him through
needle in the hay
now on a bus
nearly touching
this dirty retreat
falling out
sixth and powell
a dead sweat in my teeth
gonna walk walk walk
four more blocks
plus the one in my brain
down down stairs
to the man
hes gonna make it all ok
i cant be myself
i cant be myself
and i dont wanna talk
im taking the cure
so i can be quiet
whenever i want
so leave me alone
you oughta be proud
that im getting good marks
needle in the haaaay
....
'the white lady loves you more' is a good one too. But I'll let you guys check that out on your own.

There is a ton of great songs about my beloved opiate. One of my recent fav's is this NIN beauty:
"With Teeth" Nine Inch Nails
She comes along
She gets inside
She makes you better than anything you've tried
It's in her kiss
The blackest sea
And it runs deeper than you
Dare to dream it could be
With teeth [x4]
Wave goodbye
To what you were
The rules have changed
The lines begin to blur
She makes you hard
It comes on strong
You finally found
The place where you belong
With teeth [x4]
I cannot go through this again [x8]
With teeth [x4]
She will not let you go
Keeps holding on
She will not let you go
Keeps holding on
This time, I'm not coming back
She will not let you go
This time, I'm not coming back
She will not let you go

THE ONLY ONES, ANOTHER GIRL ANOTHER PLANET
I always flirt with death
I could kill, but I don't care about it
I can face your threats
Stand up tall and scream and shout about it
I think I'm on another world with you
I'm on another planet with you
You always get under my skin
I don't find it irritating
You always play to win
I don't need rehabilitating
Another girl, another planet
Another girl, another planet
Space travels in my blood
And there ain't nothing I can do about it
Long journeys wear me out
Oh God we won't live without it
Another girl is loving you now
Another planet, forever holding you down
Another planet
Any version of Oh happy day.

Self Destruct lyrics
Watch me suffer
You'll feel better
Stick the needle in my vein
Lost my feelings with my dealing
Thoughts of only you remains
FUCK
Rip and tear
In my dispair
agonizing over shit
Feel the needle burn and tingle
My bad habits deal with it
[CHORUS:]
FUCK
I will self destruct
My light has slowly faded
Broken and degredated
Suffocate in my sorrow
Maybe I'll die tomorrow
This riot that I've sited
Camt to you uninvited
Truth hurts when it's in your face
Are you afraid of it?

WHAAAAAATT??
How has John Prine's "Sam Stone" not been mentioned. Limewire it. It's an oldy but a goody.
SUCH a goody.
Here's an excerpt....
There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes...
Jesus Christ died for nothin' I suppose.
Below are the full lyrics for those with patience, the whole song is fucking amazing, it's worth reading.
Sam Stone came home,
To his wife and family
After serving in the conflict overseas.
And the time that he served,

"Time out of mind" Steely Dan
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Royal Oil
Royal Oil, come on bubble and boil
Stabs like dagger, make you stagger
On the hot tin foil
Mind your mind or it will surely spoil
then you sleep down in the soil
Nothing comes from nothing, come on Royal Oil
When you smoke or poke the poison
You lose the chance to be tomorrow
Look out on the horizon
And see the sadness, the pain and the sorrow
I can't say enough about the stuff
Or what it has in store
When you smoke or poke the poison
You won't be anymore
Royal Oil, come on bubble and boil
Stabs like dagger, make you stagger
On the hot tin foil
Mind your mind or it will surely spoil
Then you sleep down in the soil
Nothing comes from nothing, come on Royal Oil
Royal Oil has cut many down to size
Spikes gonna strike the weak and strong alike
And then forever, and ever close those eyes
Make up your mind to keep your mind up
And to your life be loyal
Nothing comes from nothing, come on Royal Oil
Royal Oil, big trouble brewing
Long, lonely road, long road to ruin
Wrong path to take, great big mistake
And then you sleep down in the soil
Nothing comes from nothing, come on Royal Oil
Peace.

Alice in Chains: Dirt (one of my fav top 10 albums ever, btw)
I have never felt such frustration
Or lack of self control
I want you to kill me
And dig me under, I wanna live no more
One who doesnt care is one who shouldnt be
Ive tried to hide myself from what is wrong for me
For me
I want to taste dirty, stinging pistol
In my mouth, on my tongue
I want you to scrape me from the walls
And go crazy like youve made me
You, you are so special
You have the talent to
Make me feel like dirt
And you, you use your
Talent to dig me under
And cover me with dirt

"Thrash Unreal" by Against Me!
"If she wants to dance and drink all night then there’s no one that can stop her.
She’s going until the house lights come up or her stomach spills onto the floor.
This night is going to end when we’re damn well ready for it to be over.
Worked all week long now the music is playing on our time.
We do what we do to get by, and then we need a release.
You get mixed up with the wrong guys.
You get messed up on the wrong drugs.
Sometimes the party takes you places that you didn’t really plan on going.
When people see the track marks on her arms she knows what they’re thinking.
She keeps on working for that minimum,
as if a high school education gave you any other options.
They don’t know nothing about redemption.
They don’t know nothing about recovery.
Some people just aren't the type for marriage and family.
No mother ever dreams that her daughters going to grow up to be a junkie.
No mother ever dreams that her daughters going to grow up to sleep alone.
No mother ever dreams that her daughters going to grow up to be a junkie.
No mother ever dreams that her daughters going to grow up to sleep alone.
She’s out of step with the style.
She don’t know where the actions happening.
You know the downtown club scene ain't nothing like it used to be.
You reach a point where there’s not a lie in the world
that you could use to make the boys believe your still in you twenties.
But they keep getting younger,
Don't they baby.
She’s not waiting for someone to come over and ask for the privilege.
She can still hear that Rebel Yell just as loud as it was in 1983.
There ain't no Johnny coming home to share a bed with her and she doesn’t care.
And if she had to live it all over again you know she wouldn’t change anything for the world."

Jones Comin' Down by The Last Poets.
No lyrics on google, gotta transcribe it myself - here goes:
" Jones Comin' Down" repeated by backing vocals through out the song
...day breaks - got the shakes..
nose runnin', joint drippin' , mind slippin' .. body aches
Jones Comin' Down!
Got an attitude, fighting mad, feeling bad, funeral sad.. 'nother 24 hour drag
Damn I needs me some.. SCAG!!
Pawned my brother's do-rag to cop me a transparent thin bag..
You see, you see, 'cause I'm strung out, strung out on the white witch
- my timeless bitch, riding the white horse into my main vein..
damn baby got to kill this pain..
(But) I'm gonna get slick and get my woman to pull a trick
- she don't care, she's on welfare..
Gonna steal her check and cop me a deck and deal me some stuff
-when the going gets rough..
Where's my.. Whiiiite! I've got to ease my mind..
Is that the kid I hear crying? Shut up kid, you want the super to call the man
and have me pull another bid[sic?].. so what if you're hungry (shit)
-my jones is down on me!
I ain't your man, I don't know where to do this, If he knows would I know, at least [unclear]
I'm getting his..
Damn this pain is getting worse - let me see how much doe this hoe's got in her purse..
Well now, six dollars will cop me 2 small trays, and thats enough to take my guerrilla jones away
- now let me see what's happening on the corner today..
Hey there's my man! Brother sweet stud[unclear] Sam..
Hey Sam , can i get a play on a double tray so I can take off and
layyyy...ok woman, get up out of bed - you heard what i said,
I'm gonna tie the rope around my arm and hit the cooker
and I want you to get your ass out on the corner and play hooker..
Wow! I can feel it now - this stuff is bomb[might be "Boss"]! I see that hoe on that horse!
Hey baby, wait for me! 'Cause I'm gonna be ..
Free! x5
.. really?

Alkaline trio - My Little Needle
i'll come down to get you high.
or maybe sing you a lullaby.
sing you to sleep, a sleep you'll never wake from.
sing you to coma so to speak.
and when i fall down, i'll fall apart.
trade in my bike for a shopping cart.
and beg change from a world that needs some,
like i need someone. so where are you my little needle?
the stack's been burned away,
but i'm so inebriated that i cannot see three feet in front of me.
between the moon and you, lunacy is setting in.
lately i've been feeling dead inside,
like my guts have dried up and died.
but every night i water them back to life,
yeah every night i water them back to life.
and when i fall down, i'll fall apart. trade in my bike for a shopping cart.
and beg change from a world that needs some.
i'm tired of sleeping alone. so where are you my little needle?
the stack's been burned away,
but i'm so inebriated that i cannot see three feet in front of me.
between the moon and you, lunacy is setting in.
Love Pool Shark too. hard to choose really.

I really like Angel by Sarah McLachlan
Spend all your time waiting
for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay
there's always one reason
to feel not good enough
and it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
oh beautiful release
memory seeps from my veins
let me be empty
and weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight
in the arms of an angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort there
so tired of the straight line
and everywhere you turn
there's vultures and thieves at your back
and the storm keeps on twisting
you keep on building the lie
that you make up for all that you lack
it don't make no difference
escaping one last time
it's easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees
in the arms of an angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort there
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

The city breathing all down your neck
Bad news and good dope, special effects
And reality's cheap
Bright, black
Sinking in deep
Who ain't shy of the pain?
Who ain't shy of the pleasure? Just the same
Life is a game, I heard the homies say
But I came to win, so I'm not here to play
Have fun

Wow

Bad news and good dope
Powder, potion, pills, smoke
Baby, how you trying to to go?
Dudo o dulce?
Fast or Slow?
Yea?
No?
It's okay, you can have it your way
It ain't all good, but baby, I'm cool
Feeling great, feeling good, how are you?
10% condition, 90% repsonse
Survival mathematics, the number man's song
Old Dad dropped a jewel so pure
When the times get raw
It's something I recall
Sometimes I don't remember it at all
It gets stormed by the weather
With no um-ba-rella
The sky release pressure and the ground get wetter
My outfit effed up
I coulda looked fresher
But guess what? To hell with parade day rain
Tsunami or sunshine
Obama just the same
Life is a game I heard the homies say
But I came to win

its scenster pussy shit but Escape The Fate- the webs we weave. good lyrics and fuck it i'm an emo partially scene kid (only when im sober, weird huh?)
So grab this statement
And read between the lines
I'm walking on an edge
That's how I stay alive
I need a fix now
The pills I have to take
It helps me live a lie
and blinds all my mistakes
before I die
I will have seen it all
the mountains I have climbed
help me enjoy the fall
Oh the webs you weave
We are caught in the fame
the passion's dead
the life you've lead
has drown in your shame
oh the webs I weave
I am caught in this game
my passions dead
the life I've lead
has drowned me in vain
so paint my portrait
the colours of my life
and the untold stories are painted in black and white
i can hear the footsteps
that follow to my pulse
this paranoia has haunted me like a ghost
before I die
I will have seen it all
the mountains I have climbed
help me enjoy the fall
Oh the webs you weave
We are caught in the fame
the passion's dead
the life you've lead
has drown in your shame
Oh the webs I weave
I am caught in this game
my passions dead
the life I've lead
has drowned me in vain
I will have seen it all (seen it all) [x2]
I'm killing time
Let me go
(before I die)
(I will have seen it all)
it reads their minds
brings them close
(before I die)
(I will have seen it all)
Oh the webs you weave
We are caught in the fame
the passion's dead
the life you've lead
has drown in your shame
Oh the webs I weave

"Whatever I Fear" ~ Toad The Wet Sprocket
there's almost nothing left
you eat my kind for breakfast
what did I expect?
to come here and find anyone?
find open arms to greet me
and friends to feed me
I sicken myself so much
and you eat my kind for breakfast
you eat my kind
whatever I fear the most is whatever I see before me
whenever I let my guard down, whatever I was ignoring
whatever I fear the most is whatever I see before me
whatever I have been given, whatever I have been
seeing myself this way
I am a monster I believe
and seeing is believing
is there no doubt left
when I wake up
I poison myself
and poison gives no appetite
I sicken myself so much
I sicken myself so
whatever I fear the most is whatever I see before me
whenever I let my guard down, whatever I was ignoring
whatever I fear the most is whatever I see before me
whatever I have been given, whatever I have been
did we expect these things to change
by waking up and suddenly there they are
and all I need's a starting place
and nothing ever seemed so hard...
whatever I fear the most is whatever I see before me
whenever I let my guard down, whatever I was ignoring
whatever I fear the most is whatever I see before me
whatever I have been given, whatever I have been

Sam Stone by John Prine
Sam Stone came home,
To his wife and family
After serving in the conflict overseas.
And the time that he served,
Had shattered all his nerves,
And left a little shrapnel in his knee.
But the morphine eased the pain,
And the grass grew round his brain,
And gave him all the confidence he lacked,
With a Purple Heart and a monkey on his back.
Chorus:
There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes,
Jesus Christ died for nothin' I suppose.
Little pitchers have big ears,
Don't stop to count the years,
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.
Mmm....
Sam Stone's welcome home
Didn't last too long.
He went to work when he'd spent his last dime
And Sammy took to stealing
When he got that empty feeling
For a hundred dollar habit without overtime.
And the gold rolled through his veins
Like a thousand railroad trains,
And eased his mind in the hours that he chose,
While the kids ran around wearin' other peoples' clothes...
Repeat Chorus:
Sam Stone was alone
When he popped his last balloon
Climbing walls while sitting in a chair
Well, he played his last request
While the room smelled just like death
With an overdose hovering in the air
But life had lost its fun
And there was nothing to be done
But trade his house that he bought on the G, I. Bill
For a flag draped casket on a local heroes' hill

^^^ Great Choice^^^
"Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails
I hurt myself today,
To see if I'd still feel.
I focus on the pain,
The only thing that's real.
The needle tears a hole,
The old familiar sting;
Try to kill it all away,
But I remember everything.
What have I become,
My sweetest friend?
Everyone I know,
Goes away in the end.
You could have it all,
My empire of dirt.
I will let you down,
I will make you hurt...
I wear this crown of shit,
Upon my liar's chair,
Full of broken thoughts,
I cannot repair.
Beneath the stains of time,
The feelings disappear.
You are someone else,
I am still right here.
What have I become,
My sweetest friend?
Everyone I know,
Goes away in the end.
And you could have it all,
My empire of dirt,
I will let you down,
I will make you hurt.
If I could start again,
A million miles away,
I would keep myself,
I would find a way.

hes the first real electric guitar rock star in my book,
like a rolling stone was earthshattering, format busting folk fucking punk rock, wild poetic mean and rocking all at once.
popular opinion gives the nod to hendrix's 'watchtower' so much so people do think it was his writing, but no, all dylan. not to discount hendrix, as hey joe is in my top 20 probable...
