Bad Ass Opiophile Search Function for Firefox'ers

Hey fellow firefoxer (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/)'s, did you know you can make your address bar (where you type URLs) into a search bar for opiophile (or ANY site for that matter?) - if you haven't, update to 2.0...

First go into your "bookmarks" and create a new folder called "quick keys" or something... (read thru to see why)... then open up Opiophile and click onto 'search' until the box appears, then right-click...

in the drop-down box one selection will be be "Add a Keyword for this Search..." - click that and a bookmark-type box appears... now name it 'opiosearch' or something...

in the next field create your quick key/word (i used 'opio') but make sure to make it short because the whole point of this is to make life easier.

basically what you've done is created a bookmark of the search box into your browser... so open it up anywhere (here, gooooogle, about:blank, whatever) and type in opio firefoxer and BAM!

for anyone not using firefox, if you like to be in total control of your browsing experience, you need to do this... then check out all the add-ons... i've got a fucking POWER BROWSER but man that search function is da shit!

hey u100 which of the add-ons do you use? i've been dl a shit-ton of them looking for the best ones and i've found some cool shit... like i've got the fuckin 3-day weather forecast tucked into my taskbar in space that's always been blank and will never get in the way, AND it doesn't go where most (toolbar) and fuck my special tools all up...

man i'm tellin ya with all these add-ons i've got a fucking SUPERBROWSER man its crazy what this mother fucker will do...

Currently I have a couple decent skins for it, the IE view extension, for windows updates, one called tab catalog, which gives you thumbnails of your tabs. cool as fuck. Unplug, which allows you to download stuff from webpages.. illwillpress.com being my favorite. Foamy fuckin rules :D The temporary inbox plugin, which is nice for registering for stuff you know will get spammed, one called stumbleupon. tell it what you dig, and it sends you to random webpages within those subjects. the president bush countdown clock (yeah i know) fasterfox, chatzilla (irc client) the all in one sidebar, and a couple extensions specifically for the webgame utopia. i had a lot more, but these are the ones i cant live without. my browser wrocks muchly. :D

well i just reread that and maybe it didn't make as much sense as i meant for it to...

the point is you can type in 'opio' or whatever you created as your quickkey, and then whatever word you're trying to search, and the page that comes up will be like you typed that word into the search box here at the opiophile search page...

so if i go to my address bar and type in - opio heroin - and hit enter key, the next thing i see is a results page, just like if i'd gone to the search bar here and done it...

it saves me like 4 steps...

get it? damn i should take more time with this shit... if anyone needs a decent explanation and my rambling is confusing lemme know and i'll fix it... my racing thoughts don't stop for muych

Heh, you know, HoM, I find this absolutely hilarious. Using your initial description, i made a toolbar bookmark button which opens the search page in the sidebar... A little different, but it works. I guess thats one of the beautiful things about open source apps. There are an almost infinite number of ways to achieve the same goal.

dont worry hom, i got it. this is going to be VERY helpful to use with my torrent sites. no more looking through all the bookmarks i have to find my torrent pages, clicking, waiting for the sites to load, and THEN searching. i can just throw the search in the address bar. thanks for the tip bro.

Insanesteveo: I have a buncha bit torrent searches in my search bar. Just click on the arrow next to the bar, scroll down to "manage search engines", and navigate from there by either searching for BT or browse through the lists. I have about 5 and it helps out when I'm going nuts finding something.
