My girl was reading to me about the new "23" movie with Jim Carrey and how Wil Burroughs had advanced the 23 is evil theory. I had never heard this before. Anybody?

There's a piece called 23 skidoo by Bill and it's all numerology and therefore bullshit-even uncle Bill got suckered occasionally.

No difference between 21,22,23 or 24 apart from what's in people's heads. As uncle Bill would say, leave your luggage at the check in.

In the early '60's in Tangiers, William Burroughs knew a certain "Captain Clark" who ran a ferry from Tangiers to Spain. One day, Clark said to Burroughs that he'd been running the ferry 23 years without an accident. That very day the ferry sank, killing Clark and everyone aboard. In the evening, Burroughs was thinking about this when he turned on the radio. The first newscast headlined the crash of an airline plane on the New York-Miami route. The pilot was another Captain Clark and the flight was listed as Flight 23 (ala the line "Captain Clark welcomes you aboard.").

Do you think burroughs would want to be called uncle bill by a bunch of junkies even and especialy this long after his death?

Superjunky,who cares what he'd like,he's dead.
Sorry,I'm drinking again, but I'm SURE uncle Bill wouldn't mind-it's better than calling him Bill the cocksucker, right?

Kid,you're spot on,but you gotta remember Bill was in his cut up phase at the time and saw everything as evidence of cosmic chance.Which was right and wrong-sometimes there is NO pattern.

23 goes back to the kabbalah and it's ALL dumb.

Bill was first and foremost a humanbeing-his failure to accept this was his achiles heal.

Hey fuck off Nick. And to hell with Jim Carey for ruining my running annoyance with random people with the 23 thing.

That post made very little sense. I'm assuming "and to hell with" means you're angry with jim carrey. Ok, understood. So you're angry at jim carey for ruining your annoyance with random people with the 23 thing. So he ruined you being annoyed with random people talking about the number 23? So shouldn't you be glad if you're not annoyed by it anymore?

I think you were trying to say something else but messed up. Somewhat badly, too, if i may say so. And nick is right, there really isn't any evidence that 23 is different from 22, or 24, or 8,122,422,108,234,480,042.0424242

Your opinion really isn't too important to me. Nick is always right, I just had to half ass defend Uncle Bill and my abnormal sense of humor. The 23 "phenomenon" was a running inside joke between me and several friends of mine in college, because we were pushing the discordianism crap. We had fun bugging people about the so called phenomenon. Jim Carey just made it more popular, so it basically made harassing people with it less amusing. Usually people get all defensive trying to disprove it. In the grand scheme of things, it really isn't worth getting worked up over. Nick simply stated where it was popularized by a well known author that many of us are fans of.
