does morphine (liquid taken from an IV drip bag) given IM or SC still have significant benefits compared to nasal, oral, sublingual? obviously there is A benefit, but how much stronger is it about exactly? is morphine given IM stronger than morphine delivered SC? I guess I'm just asking for dose ratios comparing the different methods of administration.
just wondering, thanks
Good question. I never really thought about it before. I don't have any answers right now though.
One more thing. It seems really likely that you'd get more a higher drug ratio of the drug in the body SC or IM doesn't it? Nothing more then a guess but I'd say IM would be best and you get get the same effect as other routes with a lower dose as your body would get more of the drug and less would be wasted/notabsorbed.

I've never IV'ed or SC'ed morphine but I have used IM, nasal, oral, & sublingual administration and out of all of those I'd say IM'ing is by far the best. I can get off on 60-90mgs of IM morphine whereas with oral I have to take 180mgs-240mgs to get the same effect.

FWIW, I've read about this in the PDR numerous times, and it appears that the writers consider all injections to be close to equal. I know that IV is much faster, but have never tried IM or SC, so I can't say anything based on experience, only what I read.
I've IVed the oral stuff before. Of course I prefer IV for quick action but the liquid kind quick release pretty much hits you quick taken by mouth. A hell of alot quicker then I thought it would.

The PDR also says that with Morphine, 30mg orally is approxiamately equal to 10-15mg injected. It also has a lot to do with the individual's metabolism and takes into consideration whether the person has eaten, has consumed alcohol, and a whole lot of other factors as well. Bottom line is, any kind of injection of Morphine, IV, IM or SC is going to be absorbed much better than what you will get by eating/drinking it. Nasally is also a better route, and much safer than injecting in general. It is also my favorite way to administer Morphine. I crush up the MSIR pills and snort them right up, giving a good buzz within a few minutes.

I have never felt a real good rush when shooting morphine.......I dont think I have ever touched morphine sulfate though. I get a great rush from dalaudid, but not morphine.
I have never felt the pins and needles sensation from shooting up morphine. And I used the stuff IV for months at a time.
Maybe this is partly due to the binders and such in these oral pills?.
I had the pins and needles a few times. Always on the top and back of my head. You have to do a pretty mighty shot though.

Dilaudid...that brings back some really good memories, he he. In a way, I'm glad that I get the Morphine instead of the D, even though the doc would probably switch if asked. I'm not so tempted to shoot the M anymore. If I had the D's again I'd probably end up ODing or dead. They're just too good!

They've added new binders to Dilaudid (pill form) Even if you cold shake, it takes almost an hour to completely dissolve.
