I just got back from my appt. w/my pain management doc. So this is straight outta her mouth to your ears. I bitched about how shitty generic oxys are, as that's what the pharm gave me last month, so I told her to be sure and check the box "do not substitute". She then tells me that within 2-3 months ALL generic oxycontin will be taken OFF THE MARKET!!! Not only that, but there's a huge lawsuit in the works re: the generic oxys! And she backed up 100% what I read here last week about the generics not putting the same amounts of medication that they say on the label, along with putting all kinds of bullshit ingredients that actually prevents them from working as well as they are supposed to!!! CAn you believe it?! NO MORE SHITTY GENERIC OXYCONTIN!!!. No matter what strength, even the 80's, BYE BYE!!! Yippie-ky-yay. And HA to the pharmaceutical companies money machine! No more ripping us off while allowing us to be in pain. Unconscienable Bastards!!!!

awesome news IrishTart. I'm sure there's plenty of happy opiophiles.
I'm pretty sure there is another thread on this subject.
IIRC Roxi*stardust was talking about it a week or two ago.

Shit! I can't believe I missed that one! I'm gonna see if I can find it right now....

The ONLY times I've ever gotten high from oxycodone has been from name brand OxyContin. No generic, no matter what the strength, has ever had any effect whatsoever.
But won't this mean that people will have to spend more money again on the name brand stuff?

Generics are already becoming more scarce around here.. Only thing I would be afraid of is the street value going up because the shitty generics will no longer be around for less...
I would take namebrand or watson over other generics anyday

Oh well, it was big news to ME, as I had not heard anything about it until today. Damn, thought I was gonna get to make a bunch of opiophiles' day! Anyway, if it made anyone's day besides mine, I can live with that.

what about the ABG's that are made by Purdue? but seriously, the last few times I've bought oxy, they've all said OC on them, when they're usually ABG.

That's fucking great news! For the past year generic OC's have been slowly replacing the brand name around here...not only that but the price went up to $35 for an 80. It'll be nice to have the brand name back.

There was a document that looked pretty darn official in another page on ophile that said the same thing. In fact it was a bunch of different reports on each generic brand stating that they will no longer be on the market.

no problems here, same price for me, just ensures that I now get good ones for sure. even though its been over a year since I've seen an Endo or Teva, its been Purdue or Watson for the past forever, and lately all Purdue.

generics were always cheaper round these parts. You could pick up a teva 80 for $15.00 when a reg 80 OC was $40. Abg 80s were $30. Everyonce in a while this guy called "Tuna Wrap" would come around with ABG 40s for $10. Everyone told him he was an idiot. I think he stole them or something but still

The only two generics left on the market are Impax and Watson. Endos and Tevas were pulled as of January 1st 2007. They just have to sell what is left at the pharmacy. The lawsuit with Impax is still in litigation. Soon the only generic that will be available is Watson. But I sure do miss those Endos...

Personally, I think all generic medication is substandard. I have never had good results with ANY generic anything & I think generics are a rip-off.
Pharmaceutical companies, doctors, landlords, cops = assholes.
And not necessarily in that order, because it changes hourly. :)
Thanks, I-T.

I don't agree with this statement. Generic meds, for the most part, rule; way cheaper and they're exactly the same thing as the name brand. Any difference you may be noting is likely in your head, with the exceptions of course for the crappy generic OCs we're talking about here. And Mallinckrodt hydrocodone.
I've only had bad experiences with generic Oxy and the Mallincrap hydro. I swear those M357 pills are just placebos. All other generic meds I've had, including various funky overseas generics from India and Thailand have all been great.
But if you have specific bad experience with certain generics, please feel free to inform us.

It made mine! though I had heard about it awhile back the pharmacists here act like they have NO clue WTF I am talking about:rolleyes: While I can get the ABG's I still would like to try brand & see if it works better. I have heard it lasts longer & doe'snt wear off in like 4 hours like the generics do. hoping that may help my hydro cravings as well. As I have spoken to other ppl who have had bad luck with generics (non dope feinds too!0 & say they felt sick & in w/d's a few hours after taking the generics. so YOU MADE MY DAY!!
thanks!!!

why do that? just give him what he's asking, the ABG's are hte exact same thing as the name brand Oxycontin. I swear those M357 pills are just placebos.
those work fine for me if I take the right amount, but the 7.5mg hydro's are better of the sae brand.

I love mallies & don't care for watsons. must be chemistry thing I guess we are all different. I wish at least some of the OP's would send mallies instead of the damned watsons:o

well hydro but within the last month or two they have all pretty much been closed down by the DEA & the ones left are dropping like flies. I am sure there a few still flying under the radar but haven't had time to really dig for the info yet;)

They are a bit waxy and they don't grind up real nice unless you use a mortar and pestle. They are definately better than the Teva's though. Don't sweat it though, they shouldn't be around too much longer.

I've tried the Teva generic 80's before, they are slightly waxier than the Impax. They both are in about the same class. The Teva's seemed to be about the only generic around in this area until recently. They can't be replaced by ABG's soon enough. :D

just to let you know, you're allowed to ask the pharmacy what brand o what drugs they're going to give you before you make the purchase. you can go around and find good ones if you'd like.
try walgreens, they've usually got the ABG's from what I understand.

The Walgreens here has Endos'. Rite Aid and Eckerd are the popular pharmacies around here because they have Watsons' (ABG).

yep my ABG's come from rite aid. the other little pharm has the impax. Sooo when this all goes into effect fro real, am I understanding correctly that there will STILL be generic OC's just that ABG will be the only generic? I thought they were all going back to brand. Is the brand better than the ABG's? Was thinknig of asking for brand next time if it is worth it for the difference:confused:

The ABG's are EXACTLY the same as the name brand....Everyone will tell u the same..and if they do think there's a difference its just a placebo effect on their brains...
But i have noticed the ABG's differ slightly from the brand names in the way they taste/drip in ur throat(but that may just be a placebo effect on me!) , but still ABG's are just as good and get u just as high as the brand names.

well, ABG's and OC's are the only ones you see around here, and the only pharmacies we've got are walgreens, walmart, CVS, and then like maybe 3 mom and pop pharmacies (do those have cameras?)
but yeah, endo's suck, they burn,. but other than that, they work the same to me.
also, to the person asking about the ABG's.
they're the same thing as the OC ones, I think they might even be made at the same place, just a different dye on one side (abg instead of oc). they taste and drip the same and everything, don't listen to that one person.
the ones you want to look out for are the oval shaped oxy,s nad pretty much anyone that doesn't say ABG or OC on it, the rest all have some type of tamper protection.

Yep, the Watson (ABG) Oxycodone CR's are the same as the Purdue Pharma OxyContin. I am not sure, but I think Purdue actually makes them in their plants, but it is a Watson product, in theory. You see this a lot in store brand products, like sodas and cookies. I know a little different, but it's the same principle. Stuff like Sam's Choice cola is actually made by Coca-Cola company, hence the similar taste. Wal-Mart, however, sells it like they made it, when they really didn't. Oxycodone CR by Watson works in a similar manner.
On a slightly different note, I have tried for a long time to figure out what the ABG means on the generic OxyContin. Someone may know for sure, but the only thing I could come up with is "Approved Brand Generic." Stupid? Anyone know, let me know.
Thanks.
