Oh God - perhaps this should be in the piss and moan.
It just occurred to me as i was about to post in detail about what happened to me at work today that these pages are searchavbe by google. If someone for work read this they may well work out who I am - or at least they would have been able to if I'd written what I initially started writing.
Suffice it to say my boss called me aside (actually we went for a drink to a bar) to ask why I am always late in the mornings and why i fall a s l e e p a t m y de s k in the afternoon
there was all this stuff about how we are friends and this is unofficial and off the record and did i know that we are fully covered med insurance wise. This is your chance to explain what's going on. If there is anything you want to discuss either with me or other members of the team feel free.
He's on the level, but it still sucks. I like my job and i'm good at it. I'd be a bit better if i was awake all day and the others would take me more seriously and trust me further if i didnt seem to have heavy eye lids.

At least they didn't just fire you and any business that want's to care for an employee who's into "our thing can't be bad.Plus they obviously rate/like you.

man i've been there and i stupidly let me ego get in the way, and of course i denied it and then later after more problems i just put in my notice and left... looking back part of me thinks i should have taken the help...
at the time i thought no one knows and there's no way i'm telling them... which is complete crap everyone knew so i may as well have done it... fuck it water under the bridge, just a lesson for the future now.

It sounds like you got a good thing goin with your job and your boss seems cool. As said before most people even get an inkling of suspicion and just look for a chance to fire you, but he called you out to the bar to chat as friends. And the part about him saying you are fully covered med insurance-wise, seems like hes hinting at bupe or 'done. If I were in your shoes I would jump on that unless you really aren't ready to quit the other opiates
Personally, I think your boss is cool as hell.
Ask yourself why you really use drugs, and if it’s worth it to you. It’s always your choice, but it comes across to me as if you realize that drugs are going to cause you to have more problems than whatever it is that you are trying to escape.
Might be a time for a change? Just a thought, only you know bro - dv

Interesting.......
It was quite embarassing really. He kept setting me up to say what was really going on and I kept saying that I have difficulty getting to sleep at night and that I sometimes take a pill to help me sleep but i don't take them at 10 i take them a 4am, does that explain why I'm tired sometimes? I don't know if he bought it or not - i mentioned that there are sleep therapists and maybe i can get one on our insurance. A regular exercise routine was also suggested.
He also said that he didn't think i'd be able to just sort it out b/c oterwise i would have already. He doesn't want me to set myself an unrealistic target of being fine overnight, failing and then feeling like i#'ve screwed up. he also said that if i want o talk further then we can...
The point is he doesnt have to believe me - as he said my provate life is private so long as it doesn't interfere with work - we just need to solve the problem. In fact we are a small firm and I might be able to carry on (my work is alright) but I won't be very successful. I won't be the first to get promoted (to say the least). So it boils down to can I sort it out myself or do I need to get them involved? In teh short - medium term I might be able to moderate my habbit to be OK. i.e. Not use at lunchtime rather take done at noght and only use after work. But this won't last in the long term.
So we reach the unvoidable point. can i quit without telling my work what is going on? Also, cool as hey sounds they may not know what is really going on. they ma think something is going on, like maybe I'm going clubbing all night, drinking all night, or other legal, non-taboo alternatives
ahhhhhh

i work with kids who have been removed from their bio parents and the days that i would get really abused kids, I would get under my cubicle. I had hotglued material around it so nobody could see under it. I had a pillow and blanket and my laptop and i would put on my headphones and watch movies and nobody could ever find me. There were plenty of times i fell asleep and my best friend(who knew where i was but always played stupid when they would ask her if she had seen me)had to sneak under my cubicle and shake me to wake me up.
here is one more little funny. Right after my hubby and i got married we came home and had a little "quickie" sex before his baseball game. We did the kind of sex where you just pull your pants down but leave them on; well when we finished, i just grabbed another pair of panties and pulled my jeans back up. When we got to the baseball field my mother yells across the field, "What do you have hanging out of your pants, a rag?" It was my glittery sexy underwear dangling out of the back of my jeans. I had walked all around the baseball field thinking i looked hot and still floating on cloud 9 about being married. No telling how many people saw. Talk about being mortified!!! i have millions of stories like that if u need anymore. Maybe it helped a little.

Whats more important, job or drugs. Prob the job, cause without it you aint gettin no dope. If it were me? Id tell bossman. Seems like hed be OK with paid or unpaid leave, and your ins will cover the done or subs or whatever. At least your career will be where it is when you comeback.

I have been through the whole "being truthful with the cool boss" thing and I don't recommend it. On the one hand, they obviously like you, as they did me in my situation. If you tell them what is up thinking that they will be cool with it, you may be in for a surprise. I told my boss once because he was cool and I trusted him that I was sick because I was coming off of morphine medication. I figured this was no big deal since it was scribed by a doc and was on the up and up. Needless to say, by telling him I made it official, and had to go through counseling and drug testing to keep my job.
If you tell them, they will probably have to do something about it to cover themselves as far as liability goes. For instance you tell them, they don't do anything "official", you hurt yourself and say that they never helped you and that is the reason that you hurt yourself. I am not saying that this would happen, but this is the kind of thing that they have to cover for in the professional world.
If you are going to get clean or go into treatment or something like that, by all means tell them. They really could be a big help in a situation like that and you wouldn't be risking future suspicion about using. But if you don't plan on doing anything different as far as using, don't tell them and change your behavior so that they stop getting suspicious.
Maybe I am just too damn cynical, but I have found that at work, honesty is NOT the best policy.
The only other thing that might make telling them a good thing, is that if they are already suspicious then they may find out anyway. Most companies have policies to help employees who ask for it (that was the "help" that I got) while not penalizing them for it, but if they find out by a drug test or something and you haven't asked for help, you may be in for a dismissal.
Good luck either way!
Yeah Kyuss and HoM shoulda became lawyers.
Is this your idea of a complement?

I had the very same thing happen to me at work. Two of my main bosses took me to lunch and basically asked me if I needed help. One of them I seriously consider a friend, as we hang out outside of work and he is a really caring worthwhile individual.
The fact of the matter is this: they can be suspicious all they want but once you admit that you are on drugs, there’s no taking it back. I’m pretty sure for insurance reasons alone they cannot allow someone who is high to be an employee.
On one hand I half ass wanted their help (a week off work would be a good w/d period). But there is such a thing as a snake in the grass. Cool or not cool these guys would not understand to the degree anyone on o-phile would. And that’s the level of understanding I require before I come clean. That’s just me.
I played dumb about the whole thing. I did feel bad about lying, though. I had one of them say later: “I guess eyes rolling back in your head is just one of your natural expressions.”
They know, but I’ll be damned if I’m gonna confirm anything!

I'd be on the up & up with him, seriously. If he's comin at you like that... he KNOWS somethin's up. More than you may be letting on? Maybe, maybe not. But I've found being flat-out truthful is the best policy. If anything... they've gotta respect you for that. I've had cops let me go after I've told them I don't have driving priveleges and drunk off my ass!! (Of course I'm in a very small town, but still.) I've been "let go" more times than not... and I believe it's all becuz I was straight up. Told them how it was, & heeded thier advice; "go directly home, and I don't wanna see you out again tonight". JMHO. Best of luck and glad you got such a nice job... keep it if you wish.

Im a busines owner and if I knew someone had a serious drug addiction I would help him/her no problem. Id pay for the treatment. But only id they admit they really want off. But everytime ive done something nice for someone I get screwed. So I dunno. Id have to say, if its ajob that you handle alot of cash, then you might be in the sites of termination. We all know there is never enough cash to cop your shit. And my business, all my employees handle tons of money. But yeah, MBK if you were my employee and sincere about gettin clean, Id do anything I could to help.

DON'T TELL THEM!!!!!
bad bad bad idea IMO.
you'd be better off just getting your shit together, not nodding at work, and make it dead obvious that you're improving very significantly, otherwise you're not going to have a job for long.
I shoot up everyday at work, but i've never told anyone and I don't do big hits. sometimes i am sure that I look droopy-eyed for 15 minutes after a good hit, but I make damn sure that i can shake it off and BS with the boss when need be and look like I'm not ready to pass out.
