Well following the popularity of my Jamband thread I decided to start another one. :D

I myself am pretty big into Drum and Bass, Downtempo and some house. My favorite DJ right now is SHY FX but that changes pretty frequently. I've been listening to alot of glitch hop and screwed and chopped but I consider that more of a hip-hop thing.

I listen to all kinds of music really, but primarily EDM. Anything that isn't happy hardcore, DnB, or industrial I can usually dig but I'm primarily a trance man. Other electronic music only interested me when I am out of my mind tripping balls or poppin' rolls, I listen to trance (mostly not that progressive bullshit, though) all day long. With some of the drug experiences I've had to those ballads I swear listening to them sober still fucks with my head abit. I consider EDM, trance anyways, to be the most intelligent music genre out today - not only does it infuse elements from all other genres but it stays open to interpretation (although even alot of the mixes that don't have lyrics/samples still have deep meaning... if you know what your looking for) and is constantly changing as technology progresses. Your not getting that in any other genre. EDM is always fresh and new, if you don't count the sampling. EDM is the new classical music, IMO. Kinda funny it took me massive amounts of psychedelic drugs to come to that conclussion. Even without them though I can appriciate it now-a-days - I mean come on, who could sit through Sasha + Digweed's mix of EMF's There Here and not feel it in their chest? Probably most people that are against EDM are thinking of that damn happy hardcore NY rave scene where everybody has those doctor suess hats and fucking glo sticks, but that is kinda ignorant. I dig EDM, and even I hate that shit.

I once did a electronic music experiment on SWIM by first rubbing powered iron on to his tiny temples near his sweaty forehead and then adhering stripped speaker wires to the flesh with duct tape. This was in the early 80's so I used a Scorpions LP called "IN TRANCE" set on replay.I think the two hits of Raspberry Microdot barrel Acid that I powderized and had him snort may of effected him a bit.To this day he still drools at the sight of the old album cover by that German heavy metal band.

Right up my alley. I like a variety of mostly electronic music.. Milieu, Four Tet, Caribou, Clinic, Clark, Talk Demonic, Do Make Say Think, Bibio, and lately bands like lcd soundsystem, Trentemoller, and strangely enough a small obsession with sean lennon's album 'friendly fire.' I think it reminds me of my beatles, elliot smith loving days.

I'm not knocking you for liking happy hardcore, but OMG, that stuff is the most annoying shit on the planet to me, aside frm country music. It's like a combination of hard trance and hard house on crack. Don't get me wrong, I like techno, and I went through a phase when I was 19-22 where that's all I listened to pretty much (trance, house, nu nrg, some ambient and drumb and bass), but I've sort of grown out of it. Once and a while I'll still put it on, but I'm into more alternative / industrial / rock type of things now.

Man, you've got great taste. Amon Tobin is one of my all time favorite artists. I was listening to him back when Bricolage came out. I'd like to say I was listening since he went by Cujo. BoC and Autechre are up at the top of my list too, along with Bonobo, Kid Koala, Four Tet, Prefuse 73, etc.

I'm curious if anyone here on Opiophile produces any electronic music of their own.

four tet...drooool. I'm sure we have a lot of artists in common :P

Years ago I screwed around a bit with fruity loops, made a few songs, but nothing to write home about. Then, more recently I started recording some shoegazey/atmospheric guitar music. I've sense stopped doing that too. Its amazing how a career, serious girlfriend, and love for drugs can kill all other hobbies.

Do you make music?

Very nice selection. Four tet seems to be the popular one here, nice to see similar tastes in you guys with such similar interests(opies) to my own. This kind of music takes some digging to discover.. Was recently introduced to Bonobo and Kid Koala - great finds.

CMonk: I agree. At one point I was creating music like a madman (i was also kind of mad, literally) but then I found a good woman and a steady supply of psychotropic relief.

Electronic music is almost all I listen to, Been into it now for about 10 years almost,
My favorites go in order like this, Trance, Goa-Psy trance, Hard trance, Funky and Tribal House, Breaks, DnB, and underground turntablism, and alot of scratching and mix up stuff.
Some of my favorite Djs are
Paul Van Dyk. Above & Beyond, Ferry Corsten, Armin Van Burren, Jonny Digs and Sasha, Dj Icey, Planet of the Drums crew, Crystal Method, Infected Mushroom, these are just a few popular Djs, I could go on forever
Also on the lines of Jam Bands I used to be into Phish hardcore and toured with them every summer and fall tours from 97-00 good times being a tour hippy kid. I miss that shit

A Couple good internet radio stations to check out are DI.FM & VONYC.COM

both are excellent stations, check em out:hangloose

i remeber that mix, that was heavy from start to finish...i basically listen and spin was is commonly referred to progressive house, i like electro breaks deep house, detriot techno some ollllld uk hard house and some dnb and jungle. i listen to john digweeds weekly radio show religiously going on 3 or 4 years now . right now the djs i listen to are sasha, james zabiela, hernan cattaneo, martin garcia, deep mariano, booka shade, james holden, and im into airs - pocket symphony album right now....i also listen to way too much new wave and contempory pop music.

Anyone in florida going to the WMC in a few weeks, im such a lazy poor sack of shit, i need to make it down there.

When it comes to EDM, I am an eternal fan. All styles of computer integrated audio seem to move me...but the truth is I am seriously addicted to the bass and beats. But if I was forced to choose just one style of EDM to feel on a proper club soundsystem it would have to be (soulful, deep, sexy) drum and bass. I have much respect for most music. But I need my DnB. Shouts to the all the beatheads worldwide. My dj name should be The Jungle Junky. not really. S-T-R-E-SS relief. I'll be a junglist for life.
