View Full Version : Nux Vomica: Strychnine - myth and reality

Nux Vomica (Quaker Button)... all I can say is ZIP BANG. Ok that's not all I can say.
Let me start by saying there is NO strychnine is LSD. NONE. That's an urban legend. Strychnine does not cause back aches. Please don't debate me about that. Just look it up.
Ok, now, strychnine isn't just a poison... everything we ingest for fun is deadly in high doses. Such is strychnine. What is is? a stimulant... in small doses, an aphrodesiac, and in medium doses, well, here's the report:
Took 4 10x nux vomica tabs, and within minutes, I start feeling a little speedy, like a cup or two of coffee in the daytime. A few more minutes pass and my senses begin to heighten... smell, sight, sounds... all clearer, sharper.
My mood is elevated. I feel good. Awake. Alive.
I know if I take enough to get 'high' I'm risking seizure, but even at small doses this alkaloid is very active. I've done my reading research, now I'm doing my living research.

Part II - Anti-Depressant Qualities
I have been tapering off of my high bupropion dose, down to half. The amount I was on is just bad for my liver, and I feel like I've gotten stabilized, at least in a clinical/pharmacological sense, from the meds as much as I can.
In other words, its working but not enough to justify such a high dose.
Anyway I'd been coming down for a few days and feeling some exhaustion (rebound depression biochemically induced no doubt)...
But for the past 2 days I've ingested nux vomica supplements instead of my second dose, and the tiredness seems to have gone away. And I know its not the adjustment from the meds because it takes up to 2 weeks and it hasn't even been a week.

Part III - Psychedelic Potential
I wouldn't go as far as to say that it is a psychedelic on its own, although its a little strange at the medium dose range. I will say that it has a lot of potential to boost a psychedelic experience if for no other reason than it enhances the senses to such a high degree.
It has been suggested in literature I can't source right off-hand that perhaps this is where the urban legend of strychnine in LSD came from... apparently LSD orginally came in a pill form, and some think the cooks may have included strychnine to enhance the experience.
No doubt the cost became a barrier. Not to mention LSD doesn't really need to be enhanced.
Nux Vomica and Salvia Divinorum: I didn't do the smoke-your-brain-into-egolessness dose because well I don't want to have a heart attack. But I did make my alcohol-based 1/3g sally d concoction, and ingested 3 10x nux vomica supplements, and that's where ZIP BANG came from.
Ending a sentence with a preposition.
Anyway two things happened: first I noticed a flair in my head, like I was suddenly running in my mind and unreasonably happy about it (in a good way). The next thing I noticed was a very unusual "surge" in my "libido" for no apparent reason. Interesting.

No bro,I believe if you become addicted to these drugs-stopping kills, painfully.
In the 1860-1900 there was quite abit of arsenic abuse here.
Auntie Flo (Maybrick) did life for supposedly poisoining her arsenic husband. He was an addict.

Yes nick I am addicted to drugs, as much as that may suprise you.
As for nux vomica, do your research. It can have negative reactions with other drugs. I've done my research and feel confident that the small doses I'm experiment with are not toxic.
T+hrs, all psychoactivity subsiding. Some physical remnants, but nothing uncomfortable. Absolutely no depression hole as associated with other stims (yet). No 'need' psychologically for more.
Interesting compound. To be continued.
EDIT -- oh you were being serious. I didn't realize there was an addiction history with this chemical. I've seen it listed in many daily herbal lists... its good for the stomach too...
Certain effects could also be associated with cannibanols.
you're addicted to drugs!! -you degenerate,
In small doses these drugs are fine, but if you get a habit............bad,bad stuff.
Arsenic used to be considered a cross between speed and viagre.
Stick with booze bro-some stuff is too risky-even for guys like us.
I know you know the score-just trying to look out for you,NOT tell you what to do.

judging by the amount i have left, i've got enough for 2 or 3 more medium doses... but i appreciate the info, i am just now learning about this stuff...
but it really is helping with my anti-D taper.

Interesting fact: Many years ago Russian athletes were given small doses of strycnine to enhance their performance. Small doses act as a stimulant(1-3mg) medium doses began to cause painful cramping in the spine, joints and stomach(10-20mg). anything more that that causes the whole body to go into extremly painful seizures as the lungs shut down. I have heard it is one of the most painful deaths due to poisoing. Interesting note: glycine, the amino acid helps counteract the poison.

heroin addicts shouldnt pooh pooh herbal concoctions that utilize strychnine, when you consider that strychnine is one of the most common additives to the classic heroin recipe, caffeine and strychnine are something that most heroin addicts have shot up repeatedly
. apparently strychnine makes the rush better.
the classic recipe is found all over the internet, and some older books on narcotics....the caffiene and strychnine are added by the producers and not the middle men in the beginning.
strychnine used to be put into apothecary concoctions, or basically, soda pop. it is a mild stimulant to be sure...and a little strychnine with LSD wouldnt be a bad thing, unless you got a whopping dose of both.
at the end of his life, Hitler was taking almost a half gram of pure strychnine a day in the form of a flatulance pill, an amount that would kill someone who was not tolerant of that much medication.

Its kind of funny, a lot of Hitler's generals thought that Hitler's doctor was piosoning him because of the crazy concoctions that dr Murrell( I believe that was his name) such as deer antlers and strychnine. The one drug that Hitler couldn't live without was a drug called vitamultin forte, which was a combination of vitamins and methamphetamine. Dr. Murrell actually had a private chemist synthesize it especially for Hitler. Perhaps due to the lack of pure chemicals that was used in the synthesis of the amphetamines is why Hitler was suffering from Parkinson's disease(which can be seen in several videos shot of Hitler where it can be seen that he had uncontrollable hand shaking). It was also thought that he was suffering from an advanced case of syphilis. He even wrote a detailed report of how he thought that sypyilis was a horrible scourge on mankind and probably was started by the Jews( he wrote a whole chapter in his book Mihn Kamf, I believe my spelling is wrong but you get the point).
