I downloaded firefox but i have a couple of questions. Do i use it as my internet explorer, or is it a search engine? What exactly does it do and why is it so great? Also, where is it you get the email that isnt traceable or something?I know if u are a computer person that you get sick of people picking your brain. Maybe you could just type the basic questions that ppl ask you and post it. Also, (off the subject) for those of you that have kids, have they become obsessed with the Naked Brothers Band like my kiddo?Thats all we watch

Just wondering why you downloaded it if you have no idea what it is or how to use it?

Someone told you you HAVE to have it?

(It's a web browser.)

No, we were talking about it in chatroom. I have an idea about it and kind of what it is, I wwas just wanting someone to sum up in a few sentences what all the pages are talking about. I just thought if someone used it and could tell me about it.Just wanted to try something new, i couldnt believe i hadnt heard about it. I am addicted to computers and technology, even though i dont know alot about them and i get too lazy to read everything. or i just cant find the time to read it all.ok i'm rambling, got a screaming baby and cant think

firefox is used instead of ie as a web browser. if you d/l'ed it already, click on the exe and install it. it will put an icon on your desktop and when you want to get to the net you click on the ff icon instead of the ie icon.

it has more options that you can d/l called extensions that can enhance your browsing without taking all the memory that ie does. most security experts say to use ff, or opera, or just about anything else other than what is called the security hazard that is ie. as with anything else, YMMV.

as far as the email, there is a link on the home page for hushmail. that is one of the more secure email programs around. as with anything else though your mind and common sense can be your best security program. just remember that NO program is 100% secure so if you don't want anyone else to see what you have to say, think twice before you write.

hope this condensed version answered at least some of your questions.

good luck and be safe.

I guess i got confused because i thought the point of it was so it wouldnt automatically remember stuff when i start to search, and it would forget it. does that make sense? But when i start to type in for example this site, it has it already selected and in the dropdown box. So what is the point of firefox.

the point is that with internet exploder, virus's, crashes, slowness and poor usabability make the program very unwise to use.

personally I use opera. but firefox is a bit easier to use without changing any settings. with opera I have to add a bunch of buttons and information fields to make it perfect for myself.

Knowing what you know, just stick with firefox. never use IE except to check your hotmail account by clicking the email button in msn messenger.

when firefox asks if you want to set it as the default borwser, say yes. if it asks whether to check to make sure it's the defualt browser, say yes too.

VERY IMPORTANT!!! next time you serach (use google, it's the best), and you're viewing the search results, middle click on the first few search results, and then notice the new tabs at the top. click on them to check them out, middle click on any tab to close that tab.

within a few days you will wonder how you ever got by using IE

Firefox versus Opera has been a battle I've been fighting with myself for the last couple months. Since FF 2.0 came out anyway. At present, I have it customized really heavily, and it works perfectly for everything I do on a daily basis. Opera has one advantage, that I just can't seem to get around. I really like what I am able to do with the Fox, but Opera has it beat, hands down in speed. There are a few minimalist browsers, as well as Linux variations that are faster, but thats too much work on a daily basis. For now, Firefox it is, with Opera running a close second. One of the nifty extensions that I have found recently was the temporaryinbox one. It creates disposable email accounts to prevent spam in your real mail, as well as gives a great deal of anonymity, if you were writing something you didn't want read by anyone else. I also have a toolbar specifically for my most used links. Wait, Ill just post a screenshot of what it looks like. This particular page is Utopia, a webgame that I have played for about 4 years now. Notice the name of my province. :D

you can turn that off.. go to TOOLS -> OPTIONS -> click the "PRIVACY" tab -> uncheck the first three boxes -> OK

should turn all that off.

Yeah there might be a reason the image file is called pimpedbrowser.jpg

Ya think? http://forum.opiophile.org/images/icons/icon20.gif

I actually had a lot more stuff added to it. That is just my "utopia" profile. It makes the math in the game a lot simpler. I actually have several profiles saved, for different stuff. All hail the Fox (and no, I dont mean greenfox. hes funny as hell though, sometimes)

drag the shortcut icon that's on your desktop into that area. a black line will appear, use that for placement...

But HoM, nerdy is the new cool, didnt you know? Give it a few years and you'll need to know seven computer languages and be well versed in multiple operating systems to set the time on your microwave. Oh, edit, check this out. Thumbnails of tabs.. Gotta love it.

Nah, the people at Best Buy irritate the hell out of me. I was there the other day looking for one specific item. I knew exactly what I wanted, and asked for that. They tried to sell me five other useless things that had absolutely nothing to do with what I wanted.

Oh, and the Geek Squad drives stupid lookin cars. Those new VW Bugs... they just look STRANGE to me. Like a plastic version of the real deal.

I was reading something the other day about best buy having two or three websites; let me splain.

You go online and see something you like on sale, you go into the store and tell the sales peep about the sale, he says no that's not on sale, you say I just saw it on your web site, he walks over to a computer and clicks onto bestbuy.com and low and behold, there is no sale...... and you pay full price.

On the instore terminals they have a best buy icon that runs a script that brings up the inTRAnet and it's own website, not the inTERnet and the public one.

It's the ole bait and switch. Fuckers.

But that's just it, some are not price matching, saying that there's never been a sale and your nuts, but besides, why should you have to go thru all that when thye put it on there web site.

Well I don't do any shopping there anyway.
Once my x-mas bonus was a $30 gift card to there, I gave it back to my boss.....
