I am going to Cozumel Mexico this autumn. Has anyone had any experience with Mexican pharmacies? I'm looking for information on their prescription rules, what one can get without prescription, if one can use an old prescription bottle to get a refill, limits on amounts to bring into the USA (I think it's a 90-day supply of any medication), and any observations concerning the use of local doctors. Thanks!

I believe you can be your own Doctor in Mexico and the law is that you can bring back a 3-month supply if you are from the US. Best to check with the FDA or customs websites though.
I'd love to spend a few weeks in mexico relieving my pain :-).

You can bring in a 90 day supply of Schedule III and below medications. But bringing a Schedule II controlled substance into the country is a felony as far as I know. Also be prepared to have to prove the need for the medication your bringing in. So don't get caught with 90 day supplies of 6 different opiates or something like that. Cause if you can't prove why you need them Customs could take your shit.

Keep em on you. As long as you keep low-profile and don't have the meds going through X-ray.... you'll get by 95% of tghe time. Dogs don't smell em... but the machines can see em! Livin in TX makes Mexico trips a regular MUST! As for obtaining... $50 will do wonders for the local pharmacist (or his ASSISTANT) 's attitude. Doctors are greedier (is that a word?). Legalities suck...just like anywhere. Just don't bring back a suitcase full and penalties aren't too severe (mostly a slap on the hand.... could get ya a year.... more than that is unreasonable sentencing and should be appealed). Is any of this actual info from a US or MX law... no. But it's what is going on down here. Take it for what it's worth.
