If you're frustrated with the search engine on this site, you can use Google to search this site by limiting Google's search to one domain. Here's how you do it.

Go to Google Search, and then, off to the right of the search field, click the link to "Google Advanced Search." After that, all you do is enter the root domain for this site in the "Domain" field, and enter your search terms at the top of the page, the way you normally would.

I'll try to put some screen shots of this up.... or if anybody else could, that would help cuz I don't have a decent program installed to do that right now.

That's a great tool, I use it all the time when searching the opioids.com website. It works great here, also.

I never thought about it because I thought that's how most people searched websites, but judging by all the "easy" question threads that we get everyday, I guess a lot of people don't know about it.

No, Euphorgirl... I think you're talking about Google Desktop Search - which is a great thing. But I'm talking about regular Google search, but the "Advanced Search" page.

Is the search here not functioning correctly? We have the full-text search feature turned on, but some words are omitted. For instance, you can't search for the word 'opiate' and for obvious reasons - you'd return every result on the board. Also, unregistered or guest searchers don't get to use the same engine.

Actually it does seem to be working well....

I started the thread cuz it seemed like people were having trouble with it, and I thought I'd had some problems, but on further testing, it seems okay.

Actually, after a bit more testing, I found that the Google seach is a bit better because it brings you directly to your search term. The opiophile search brings me to the beginning of the thread, not to the search term. Of course, you can take the extra step and "Search this thread, " but that is, an extra step.

Google search will also let you keep searching repeatedly as fast as you want and not require the 20 second wait which really sucks when you can't recal the exact phrase or spelling that you are searching for. (Which I do understand why we have the 20 second wait between searches I'm not complaining, I do understand it, just saying.)

The search on this site is good though, and I have been using it a lot lately. I use it far more than I do google search to find things on the site, like 80 / 20. But for some things google is better, for somethings it's worse. I use both.
