yup, my cat was hit by a car and had a broken leg so i brought him to a ER for animals.
he had surgery and when i brought him home they told me not to touch the patch on his side without gloves.
i wonder if it was even legal to do that....it was a 50mg/h durasyrgic

It is legal to send a patch home on an animal...im surprised its a 50ug patch. 25s are the norm unless hes a huge one. the effect in felines is 3 to 5 days. the places i worked at required the patch to be brought back as they considered it hazardous waste. they will NOT inspect it for the absence of gel. the area where the patch is applied to your cat (on the back of the neck, or side) is shaved. but hair always manages to get on it so its that much harder to inspect.
is the patch covered with medical tape or did they just put a cone on?. you cant get high by your ungloved hand brushing up against the patch. thats horseshit! theyre either on glue or are just saying that to cover their anuses. (or both)
your cat was hit by a car. leave the patch on for the 3 days so kitty can get the benefit of pain relief.
there will be left over gel for whoever wants it....
You know how ppl are always posting hair brained ways to score opiates .... this one is the best. You don't have to break your big toe, you don't have to fake kidney stones, you just need to borrow your neighbors cat.
My neighbor has a REALLY big dog, how big of a patch do you think they'd give it?
I AM JOKING, DON'T KILL ME !!!
So how big of a patch would he get ....

its not like alcohol which is toxic to animals. it would be cool to be high with my dog one day ha ha.

...or a few 25s?
I wore 5 or 6 of those (...or were they 50s?...75s?100? ;} for a weekend some years back...shoulda seen it. funny. :)
but yea, one should NEVER deprive an animal of that, if needed of course :)

My german shepherd puppy had kennel cough several months ago. They gave her antiobiotics and 20 5mg hydrocodones with no APAP. She ended up getting better fast and only need 5 of them. So guess who took the rest? I pay the damn pills.

alcohol is not toxic to animals anymore as it is toxic to me.
it is used as a anticonvulsant in methaldahyde poisoning (snail bait)
alowishus. big dog equals 75 to 100ug
especially for knee ligament or orthopedic surgery.
i know you were joking so this is not directed to you. (or any of you) but
i think of making a conscious effort to keeep an animal in pain so you can get high is fucked.

Yeah they're cool. My buddy's chihuahua got a bottle of vitamin fortified morphine syrup a few years back. Absolutely useless taken orally I'm sure, but good enough for a 2 pound puppy.
As for the cat with the fent patch, time for kitty to pay the piper. That litter ain't free pal.

Wow, holy shit, my cat weighs five pounds! I don't know the equivalent doses of things for various animals but shit that cat must be fuckin' low/high/loaded/in need of some serious narcan. Holy shit! I was never a "doctor shopper" but shit I'll take my yelling and screeming Siamese down to the vet, preferably yours, the noise he makes would make them think he's a 10+++++ pain sufferer! Yeah, me and my boy, we'd get a good thing goin'...I think a 90/10 split my way would be fair...

Yeah opiates are safe for animals, my dog has had percoDAN, it is asprin instead of acetaminophen, which is toxic to dogs and cats. She also ate a 15mg morphine IR that someone left on the coffee table, it got knocked off by her tail and she gobbled it up right in front of me. I almost died, I was worried sick, but called the vets and they said she would be fine. She is a 95lb black lab. She also gets Xanax 1mg RX'd to her for thunderstorms, fireworks and when we go on vacation because she is gun shy and has sepration anxiety which by the way she used to take clomipramine (human Anafranil for OCD) for. They give animals all types of people medications. Never give your animals anything with APAP(tylenol, acetaminophen) it's very toxic to them.
AS someone said leave the poor cat's patch alone.
Yes please let the cat get some relief.

I've heard of having a pair of stones but never a stoned pair. Then again I used to apply herbicide and insecticide on farmland and had a permit to do so. One of the things you learn is that the only place that absorbs chemicals faster than inhaling, ingesting, or eye contact is exposure to the genitals. Your hands are a 1 on the scale, eating, breathing are 10 and balls 9 or 10 can't quite remember. Bet your squigglies
got their nod on probably couldn't do anything else lol.

DISCLAIMER: I AM AN ASSHOLE AND I KNOW IT! I HAVE UNIQUE VIEWS AND I HOPE NO ONE WILL TAKE ME SERIOUSLY OR GET OFFENDED BY MY RIDICULOUS CRAZY INSANE WHACKED OUT COMMENTS. I love kittey's I really do, I love Cat's they make good violin strings, umm I mean they make good companions. :DI know you guys will flame me for this but i'm definitely stealing the Fent patch off my cat or dog, if they come home with one. (dog especially) lol. Cuz i fucking hate my dogs.
If it's just a broken leg I dont see the need for fent. Steal it for yourself, u know you wannnnnnnaa. :P But seriously, it's not that big a deal it's a fucking cat for fucks sake it doesn't have the brain of a human being it's not going to notice it's in pain and even if it does it will forget after it heals it's not going to hold a grudge against you or die or something. I only think pain meds should be given to animals that have a brain big enough to actually benefit from them and feel pain. I'm not sure cats really suffer that much from pain. My cat is a scrapper he can take a beating from racoons and he's still fine and doesnt bitch even though he gets all scratched up. A cat will never whine about pain. So why waste the meds on one?Give the cat something lesser like tramadol or something. Fuck wasting that high class shit on a CAT! Sorry but i don't have much feelings for animals. They are dumb and they don't think like a human does and frankly, I think it's a joke to send a cat home with a FIFTY MCG fentanyl patch. It's a blood joke, it must be just to make more money for the vet or something cuz a fucking cat won't know the diff, trust me. Maybe if the cats broken bone was like sticking out of it's flesh and broke in to 1000 little pieces and is now mush, then yah i would give it the patch but come on if it's just a routine broken leg, fuck it!
Where I live, Canada, they don't give Fentanyl to cats who break a leg, they don't give animals pain meds it's ridiculous, they dont need them they are ANIMALS, as in not human beings! They are mammals yes, but they lack real intelligence and some would say feelings as well. They have feelings, and their feelings are basically, EAT, SHIT, WATER, EAT SHIT WATER, EAT SHIT WATER, over and over, Do you understand? lol
A cat isn't going to notice the diff and he's going to be fine without it. It's a fucking waste to give him a 50mcg/h patch. That's insanity. Total insanity. It's not like the patch is keeping him alive or something. It probably doesn't even do anything he's just a cat not like he can appreciate pain relief. Give him an aspirin and let him heal and whineby himself.
Maybe if he was a good cat, he wouldn't have ran into the road in front of a fucking car and got hit and leave you with $1000+ vet bills. He doesn't deserve the fentanyl patch. If you keep it on him he's never going to remember how fucking stupid he was and he's going to run out in front of a car again! He'll be so doped up he wont even remember that cars=death
Fuck the cat! He just sucked money out of your pocket and your gonna let him get high too? Ahem! Not on my watch.

I would take a patch off my cat but not my dog.
You need to get into junky mode. Take the patch off and then give your cat a couple tylonel or maybe if you have some vics around or something give those to the cat. Then you can say that is good enough to kill the pain, even though in reality it probably isn't but it will help with your guilt.

Here's a compromise between all the animal lovers and the patch-takers: Just fucking smoke it and do what the stoners do with their cats...nice shotgun or whatever the fuck they call it for the cat after your hit...fair and equitable solution, or not?
Or just bring the cat down to the methadone clinic since he's probably got a good habit with that dose and keep the patch. Again very fair...I know someone mentioned in a thread awhile back they fill their dog's scripts at "human" pharmacies so, who the fuck knows, get PETA involved and you'll be standin' in line with cats, dogs, chimps, etc. Imagine those fucking arguments with the nurses...I'll bite your fucking head off...

that is a good point, but i still can't do it. Also his leg was all twisted up and shit real bad.
your right about the whining though. when he came in from getting hit, he just hopped over to his dish like nothing had happened, and his leg was all twisted up sticking up in the air. Poor cat brings me dead animals everyday trying to contribute to the family. i couldnt bring myself to take his patch.
also the idea about smoking it is a good compromise . maybe ill give him some foil hits for breakthrough pain on top of his patch.

That is a pretty big dose for a cat. 50mcg/h? Don't they bitch about humans taking that amount and say, "must be opioid tolerant patient to use 25mcg/h patches"? I can't imagine how fucking high that cat's gonna be. But you don't want him to go into respiratory depression, now do you? ;) Be a friend...take his patch...BEFORE he gets addicted...
Just give him some codeine or something, he'll be fine. :D

Man, I'm really shocked and saddened to see how many people are in favor of depriving a seriously injured animal of its painkillers just for a little buzz.
You guys all complain about how people are regularly undermedicated for pain and yet you're willing to let an animal suffer so you can enjoy a cheap, short-lived high? I'm no PETA freak or anything, but I do find the idea of taking off the cat's patch so you can take it for fun just disturbing.
If your brother was hit by a car and broke his leg would you steal his meds just so you can get high? If you care enough about the cat to have paid good money to take him to the vet, please don't take his meds away. I'm sure the experience of being hit by a car and injured was extremely traumatic and the cat deserves the relief given by the patch.
And I know this is an old issue by now, but I just had to say this.
