Any takers on the showing of age with reputation in the postbit?

Well, etiquette says that once a lady is over the age of 21, one shouldn't ask their age - so I'm undecided on this one. (Fine, I'm not "a lady" ;) , but I am personally getting a little tired of people calling me "dude" or "bro" or "man"...)

It's a tough call - your birthday is required on registration to verify your age, however the data is concealed even from me (the system simply rejects you if you aren't old enough) but the calculation can be made and we only have to flip a switch in order for it to fly...

why not impliment it and then make it optional on the users part weather or not to display it.

I don't see the point. judge someone from their posts not their age.

why not impliment it and then make it optional on the users part weather or not to display it.i think that's a great idea - of course the board will be full of 40-50 year old's, but still a good idea - i'll work on it.

I agree with PGK, I don't see the point. I hate how people judge me because of my age and apearance.

I'm thinking it will be optional, if at all - i went back through the registration and we've blatantly said we won't be using it - so we won't. I'll look into optionally including it for those who would like to - otherwise, it will remain private.

I have no problem with my sex or age being displayed. Just my lack of a sex life. Oops ;-).

I'm still working on making the changes necessary to include this information in your profile and postbit. I actually changed some code to disallow the viewing of this data by anyone, including me, and with the new version of our forum software on the way, I'm going to hold off before making any additional changes.
Just to add, I setup a test forum with the Beta versions of the new forum software and it's really, really cool. I think you guys will all really like the new inline abilities. You can edit your posts without refreshing the page - resize the window, spell check, all kinds of new stuff. Also in place is a new plugin system which means that adding cool new features is only a click or two away, rather than having to edit the code (only to edit it back whenever an update is released.)
Finally, and I'll post a notification of this somewhere else when the time is right, our software license is expiring. It will cost us around $80 for another yearly leased extension or $160 for a lifetime (excluding the $30 annually for updates, etc.) It will of course, be paid, regardless, however donations towards this fee are very much appreciated.
Anyway, what were we talking about again? Your sex life? If we could only donate to that...

I also don't mind my sex and age being shown, i actually think it is a good idea, but i hope it doesn't encourage people to lie about their age when they sign up, fearing that being underage may get them booted off forums.
I personally feel if there is a 16yr old out there who is using (anything) that they should be able to express their veiws and ask any revelant questions. But I dont think that anyone here would shun someone for being under age, I also don't think anyone here would be enouraging them either.

Age is but a number and Ive learned things from people way younger, and vice versa. As for what their sex may be that can come in handy when refering to that person.,

alot of people are assuming their going to be judged on their age. My general feeling is that the people on this forum dont tend to be like that. People here appear to be smarter than that (and no im not trying to suck up). I can see it influencing the way people post replies possably but i think most people here are smarter than judging someone by their age alone.

I think the age thing shouldn't matter. I feel if someone wants to let us know there age cool but it may lead to judgement by some in my experience I have met some really mature youngins and some half wit old people. This is one of my favorite sites so I would support it whichever way you guys or gals want. unfortunitally my cash flow situation is low right now but I would gladly donate when I can once things start flowing again.

We've decided we're not going to include it. Maybe with the new forum code update we'll include an option to post it if you'd like, but for now, we'll leave it be.
