Anyone see Hooked: Illegal Drugs and How They Got That Way, the opium, morphine, and heroin episode on the History Channel? I caught a bit of it, it's going to be on again at 3am EST.

I saw that programme a couple of years back on terrestial Tv, here in the UK. Superb programme.

I saw the whole series a couple years ago but, I did watch the opiate one again last night, it’s hard to get past the fact that you could just go down to the local shop and get your self as much of the stuff as you wanted, laudanum, morphine, heroin….and buy a nice little kit from Sears.:D

And this is back in the day when everyone got the sears catalog to keep in their outhouse…and it was not used for reading…!!!:p

I wonder if any antique dealers sell that kit? looks great. pretty crazy seeing those chinese opium smokers getting shot in the head.

You might be able to find a kit somwhere, seems likely.
I know, man the video of the shootings was wild. I mean we've all seen the killings on TV and movies, but that was real stuff, just walk up behind w/ a small revolver, place at the bottom of the skull and....they fall foward, slumped over. None of that getting knocked back 20 feet in the air, are blood everywhere, just way to simple and easy.:(

Those scenes definately juiced up the viewing some though, dont you think? pretty intense I agree. I missed the first half-hour or so. Did they go into the who war the Brittish waged on china after they tried to make it illegal?

yeah they talked about the opium wars and how an international treaty christian ministries got the government into caused it to be banned here in the US. also went through the Pure Food and Drug Act and Harrison Narcotics Act and all of the wonderful bullshit that ended the constitutions authority in america.
the chinese shot their dopefiends and the US just locks them up in a dungeon for years, both punishments don't make any sense.
