Does anybody know off the top of their head (or by actually having taken the time to analyze it) if it's more cost effective to extract morphine from pills and convert to H (whether just a handful of pills or in bulk), or is it cheaper to buy H at street pricing? Assuming you use the most efficient methods but keeping safety of the final product in mind.

Equation: How much does the M cost/mg x yield extracted x cost/access to AA?/your time. Can't answer without knowin' that.
Most importantly, in the abstract of "cheaper" this of course is directly relevant to your experience with chem in general. Acylations aren't difficult, using the old non-catalized method for morphine acylation (as compared to various modern acylations), but this takes sever hours. If a person knows the yield of pure diacetylmorphine and its less than like 30% (should be much better, though) than its not really worth it.

Well it seems like everyone around here has their own source prices for everything. I will say $3.00 per 30mg but I'm sure someone else will say they can get cheaper someplace else. I just kinda assumed that people would throw their own numbers in there for use, but I guess you can use that figure to start with if nothing else.

Some chemical places carry small amounts of chemicals not subject to regulation by the government.
AA can be found on the web in small quantity jars for around $3-4 per bottle, or pay for anhydride by buying the aspirin kit.

Just because it is sold in "below threshold amounts" for list 2 reporting does not necessarily mean the dea doesn't inquire into purchases of certain list 2's and virtually all list 1's. Threshold amounts are not subject to legally required reporting of the purchase/signed dea form, etc. It doesn't mean dea doesn't care/notice. If this place is a "reputable" business they are used to selling to high school chem teachers, maybe community college, etc. I'm sure they know what they are selling/what it can be used for and I'm sure they probably would notice a random dude saying "gee, always wanted to make some aspirin..." Not to mention they probably, like most similar places, are used to delivering to schools, not a guy's apartment. Maybe they'd let it slide, maybe they wouldn't notice, maybe it would piss'em off. Let's put it this way, have you ever seen a kit like that in a store you can just buy with cash like a hobby type place? I'm pretty sure dea cares a lot more about people ordering aa than they do about pods or whatever and even those vendors aren't just listed anywhere for anyone to see.
Maybe you'd wind up with some good H, maybe you'd wind up with call/knock from the dea inquiring as to your intentions and story...wouldn't do it...just take freshman chemistry, they make aspirin in practically every school I've ever heard of.
